the camera improvements look great, but i'm honestly very surprised to see that they stuck with 8 MP for the 3rd generation in a row. i was expecting at least 10 MP but seems cramming a larger sensor in there isn't happening at the moment.

I think smaller quality photos are better than bigger crapper photos, I think Apple are going the correct route with this - the sensor is far more important, plus 8MP is perfectly fine unless you plan on printing huge photos or banners. To be honest I am glad it is 8MP because my phone is getting filled up with photos as it is. So I certainly don't one bigger ones - not until they bring out a 128GB phone - which I was surprised they didn't.

I think 16gb and 32gb 5c and 64gb and 128gb 5s but apparently not - it's the only thing stopping me from upgrading my 64GB iPhone 5 to an iPhone 5S at the moment.

Who cares about all of this? If I want to be shooting movies or putting together photo albums, I'll get a videocam or SLR.

This is a phone. It's a communication device. Where's HD voice? Improved speakers so I can hear speakers on the other end? What about improvements in antenna and reception? Speakerphone? WiFi hotspot ease of use?

How about wifi-calling across all wireless carriers? Where was additional presentation about ios7 improvements and how they work with the new iPhone. Any improvements in Mail, instant messaging, voicemail, anything at all that improves the iPhone as a communications device?

Presentation sucked, all I saw was junk about video games and dual flash for photos that no one cares about. Candy for people who like to waste time. This is a phone.

It's not just a phone. It's a SMART phone. Get what I'm saying?

I'm glad to see them keep the megapixels the same as they try and improve the quality of photos. f/2.2, bigger pixels and a color adjusting flash should make a lot of pictures much better.

And increasing the sensor size was the biggest nice surprise with regards to the camera. I didn't think there was enough room to do that.

Unfortunately, it's 17% only - nothing truly groundbreaking. That is, it's not even 1/2.3", let alone the huge 808 / 1020 sensors.

For heavens sake, didn't you pay any attention? The iPhone 5S _has_ a larger sensor. Sensor sizes are square millimetres, not pixels. Apple increased what actually counts.

Agreed. Just wait till images start being taken. A 15% increase in CMOS size is huge. This camera is several notches above the 5. Easily. :apple:

True. But every little bit helps. I'm just glad it's not the same sized sensor with 12 megapixels worth of smaller pixels.

Amen. :)

Regardless of what the techno geeks that can't think outside their own little world say, this camera will be a huge upgrade from my 4s. Any phone that doesn't run iOS is out of the question so I don't care what the spec comparisons are.
The True Tone flash is revolutionary and solves a lot of problems when needing some fill, a faster lens / sensor with better low light capability with the same MP count is also welcomed and a wise choice IMO.
Slow-mo video is neat and will be useful as will a better panorama feature, not always do I carry real camera gear with me so this vast improvement over what I currently have is awesome, I can't wait till the 20th!

My iPhone 5 has HD voice so I would think the iPhone 5S would have it also.

This is a case by case basis depending on the carrier the first iPhone to have HD voice was the iPhone 5 for T-Mobile when it launched last spring. HD voice is going to take a few more years to be available on all carriers, because currently only Sprint and T-Mobile use it, and both are via different technologies, and also only work for their respective carriers.

So essentially copying HTC One technology and Samsung camera software.

And who was it that said all Samsung does is copy Apple????

Of course there was. They only didn't do it with the 5 because they wanted to save it for the 5S ;) (winky face, but actually not kidding, lol)

Totally disappointed with the lack of optical image stabilization.

Electronic image stabilization looks really bad.

Me too. The main reason i won't upgrade from the 5. I'll get the LG G2 instead, which has both OIS, stereo audio and 1080p60. Unlike the 5s.

- still a not very wide lens (most other flagship smartphones have 28mm lens; the 5S still seems to have 33mm)
Why exactly would you want that? There is no clear advantage of a wider lens.

- no 1080p60 video recording (the LG G2 does support it); neither 4K recording (the Note 3 and another phone I can't recall the name of do support)
4k? In a smart phone? Are you even serious? I know that it has been done, but it's just a laughable feature. I'd say even 1080p is way overkill for every smart phone camera I'm aware of.

The flash whiteout is why I never use flash. If Apple truly solved that issue it would definitely transform how I take my shots.

The 120FPS is going to be great for capturing videos of dogs. Imagine Fido leaping through the air in slo-mo. :D

See this is where Apple shines. For all the hate I see in these forums Apple will continue to do very well because they release products that are consistent, appeal to the masses, and are reliable. I am underwhelmed by today as far as huge gimmicks go, but that's when I stop and realize I don't want gimmicks. I want to pick up my phone and have it shine in the categories of typical use. After having a 4s, GSIII, HTC One, and now iPhone 5 I am "educatedly" convinced Apple makes the best phone and will continue to do so.

Keep it up Apple, way to not try releasing crap like Galaxy Gear just cause the market clamors for useless devices.

Braggadocious Apple Products Here

Yeah - I love the iPhone. But I love the camera on the GS4. The quality is amazing - and has some great functions to it.

At the end of the day - if you're buying a flagship phone - whether it's Android or iOS - you're going to come out just fine.

Let me summarize it for you haters:

iPhone 6 hit list:

* 12mp camera, same features you see here, but with xenon flash or optical stabilizer - but it's gonna OR cause you have to save some for iphone 6S

* A8 cpu and M7S core apu.

* >4" screen possible but don't hold your breath, we need to stretch out 4" for another 3 years maybe

* Siri that is used offline. Yes, it won't happen until iPhone 6.

* Same colors, but we gonna get a CHROME EDITION color.

* Front facing facetime now includes 1080p

* built in cover case slots; simply speaking, the phone was developed in junction with the case cover.

* Finger print sensor present - except it's twice as fast than 5S

* Quad microphones because 3 is not enough

* Facetime Audio 2; you can now activate facetime audio without hanging up with the 2nd party while on a call

* LTE switches to WIFI and vice versa; finally, iphone 6 is capable of this due to advanced technology built in this model

* Speakers are dual speakers - one on each end; whichver end I don't know for sure, but you bet on dual speakers

* No volume buttons anymore - volumes are controlled by your voice. The louder you yell at the phone, the louder the phone gets.

* Finger print API opened up to 3rd parties and only iPhone 6 can do this because the previous models are just way too limited

Probably a few more aesthetic items but you know how apple rolls - trickle features into next generation phones because they need to milk it like it was Ray J on Kim.

And this is why I'm going to the next size up in storage. My 16MB iPhone4 gets full too quickly with photos/videos, and I don't do an aggressive enough job to keep it cleaned out. With more video options, I'll chew up my storage really quick.

Why exactly would you want that? There is no clear advantage of a wider lens.

For social shots / self-portraits (and most smartphone shots belong to this category), there is.

4k? In a smart phone? Are you even serious? I know that it has been done, but it's just a laughable feature. I'd say even 1080p is way overkill for every smart phone camera I'm aware of.

1, it's not an overkill if the hardware (lens, storage speed etc.), otherwise, makes it possible to make true use of the resolution. If you want to shoot 4K because you need as detailed image as possible, why not?

2, WRT 1080p, all iPhones starting with 4 made full use of the maximal resolution (the 4 of 720p) and many other models too. That is, not even 720p/1080p is useless on most smartphones (incl., again, all A4+ iPhones).
