You're right... iPhones today are pretty much all they need to be. They are amazing machines. So maybe you don't need to buy every single iPhone from now on
My point was... Apple has been doing the tick-tock sequence for a while now. The 5S was almost certainly gonna be a simple refresh of the iPhone 5. You knew it was coming.
If the iPhone 5S won't be all that different from the iPhone 5... why not just keep your iPhone 5? No one is forcing you to get a new phone

The iPhone 5S isn't solely for people who already have an iPhone 5 anyway.
A "person" may only upgrade once every 2 years... but "people" upgrade every day. That's who the iPhone 5S is for.
Many products get slight updates every year... but you're not expected to buy every year. Companies just like to have "fresh" products every once in a while.
