Theres no way the 4 is a big upgrade. The 4 and 3G are the least upgraded iPhones from the previous gen.

The poster is wrong about the 5, that was a major change. But he's right about the 4. There was little to no raw processing gain or capabilities added on the 4. The internal chip is the same as the 3GS.

THe key is to look for architechtural changes in the processor.

iPhone/iPhone3G: Same chip

iPhone 3GS/4: Same Chip

iPhone 4S: New chip

iPhone 5: New chip.

A smart person would buy the original iPhone, the 3GS, the 4S, and then the 5.

If the 5S is a new architecture, it'll also be a good upgrade. If not, it isnt.

Simple.

iPhone 3GS and 4 did not have the same chip. They were similar, but the iPhone 4 had much higherclocks, twice as much memory, a better camera, faster 3G, gyroscopes, noise canceling microphones, and the retina display. It was a major upgrade over the 3GS, and I would argue a greater upgrade than any other iPhone.

I agree the 3G wasn't a great upgrade, but edge sucked. 3GS was a good upgrade. 4s while technically better than the 4 did not offer vastly improved usability like the 3GS and 4 did. The 5 wasn't much better than the 4s in terms of usability either. Apple has been stagnating, and I was hoping they would surprise us this time.

Please don't make it thinner. :(

Use the space savings for extra battery volume. :)

3GS - improved internals, faster, better cameras and extra features to take advantage of better innards. Easily supports all latest iOS features.

4 - cosmetic redesign only

4S - improved internals, faster, better cameras and extra features to take advantage of better innards. Easily supports all latest iOS features.

5 - cosmetic redesign only

5S - ?

3GS - S for Speed
4S - S for Siri
5S - S for Security?

You know, im happy with the design of the 5, its a classic shape. I'd even be happy with the 6 looking the same. The 5s will be the same dimensions with faster/better internals, which is fine. I've just got a 5 (ebay, after escaping Samsung) and if the 5s is just its normal "bump" i'll stay with the 5. Of course, if the 6 looks like the designs that were floating around just before the 5 came out, where it tapered top to bottom and had rounded edges (remember those mock ups?) i'll change then.

Its hard to not throw your hard earned cash at Apple when they bring out a new bit of kit!

:D

I just want a 4.5-4.7" Screen.. even a 5.0" would work. but they will continue making only ONE screen size. Meh.

Every time I read one of these complaints I wonder the same thing. I've had every iPHone except the 3GS and iPads 1,2, & 3. Every one of these devices has been used by others when I've upgraded. Neither I, nor any of the other people have ever had trouble with the home button. Nor has any one of the other iOS device user's I know.

Well, it does happen. I bought an ipad (retina) last July, since Xmas it got sluggish with the home button. Took it to apple and of course it behaved itself then. They cleaned it, i restored it from new and it was ok for a few more weeks and then the home button got worse. A few weeks ago i took it back to Apple and straight away in front of the genius it played up and wouldn't work and within 5 seconds he said "yep no problem, i'll get you a new ipad'.

I purchased and iphone 5 off ebay a month or so ago, still under a warrenty and the same thing was happening, home button wouldn't unlock the screen. Again went to apple and they replaced the home button in store. As soon as i walked away it still failed. But this time the genius mentioned to DFU the phone to install the up to date firmware and do a completely new restore. Been perfect since. So in that respect it wasn't the physical home button, and more likely the firmware that had carried across from my old back up, which was from and iphone 4.

Two different fixes to the same issue, so if people have home button issues it might not be hardware. This would give a reason why Apple are still using it, when there are other ways to do it.

Some people say new iPhone! Others say new iPad. I stand before you today and say iWatch... and I say iTV!

iPhone 1st Generation = Perfect
iPhone 3G = Light leak gate
iPhone 3GS = Crack gate
iPhone 4 = Antenna gate
iPhone 4S = Battery gate
iPhone 5 = Scuff gate

Apple should just go back to basics, call it the iPhone One?

Well... here's the phone that will seal the downward spiral of the Apple brand.

When this thing is released the stock WILL tank. Again. The FUD will continue. And the pronouncements of Apple's inability to change, adapt, innovate will be sealed.

APPLE. You're asleep at the wheel.

Looks like my iP4 will have to make it another year. I think next we get the choice of a bigger screen.

I have been tempted by Samsung & I've seen more Samsung commercials & product placements in the past year so I think they are definitely coming after Apple.

Every forum I've been even the non tech ones that talks about the iPhone when a poll is done the majority say they want a bigger screen

Your not really floating my boat here MR... kinda need more then:

'Oh look it's a slightly modified logic board with the same chips as the iPhone 5, and here is a piece of glass with a screen behind it with some connectors that fit that logic board...'

Not very exciting really. The prospect of iOS7 on my current iPhone 5 is more exciting.

You're a year early if you're looking for excitement from a hardware perspective.

I have been tempted by Samsung & I've seen more Samsung commercials & product placements in the past year so I think they are definitely coming after Apple.

Nothing new here, Samsung and Apple have been direct competitors in the smartphone market for the last several years.

4S here, feel the same.

So it took the 7th iPhone for people to stop calling these early leaked pics "fake"?

Same thing happens every year and people deny deny deny...

If (and thats a big If) these parts are real then there isn't any scanner or NFC chip coming up.

Guys, you know how make fake "leaked" images we have seen before releases? It was like that with the iPhone 5.

I've purchased every model since the beginning at/around launch day. The news of this one just bores me to death. Unless the screen is bigger or there is a design change I won't be buying it.

Maybe it's time to spend the next year with a android.... S4 with stock android? Hmmm
