My home button clicks too. Tbh, the home button on the 5S feels kinda cheap. I really can't see this functioning properly for 2 years.

Agreed, which is why I only keep phones less then a year...call me crazy.

Mine is as quiet as a mouse.

No, I agree. I was going to buy AppleCare for this very reason (cheap feeling home button), but it makes more financial sense to just sell the phone after a year and buy a new one.

I'm just not sure about the build quality of the iPhone 5/S. I have owned every iPhone since release with zero problems (except for an iPhone 4 button that quit working!), but both my wife and I had iPhone 5's and they both broke (my autofocus broke, her screen flickers). Maybe this doesn't bode well for the 5S.

So I think it's safe to say the new 5S home button clicks, which is ok...because after all, it's a button.

This wouldn't be an issue if the iPhone's home button didn't have an already poor durability record (yet stubbornly never recognized by Apple), so I can see how some people are concerned.

No. It's not. :p

As I said earlier in the thread, the 5s has a different home button design, and they all sound noisy to SOME degree. There are some that are worse than others, though. I miss my 5 home button... *sigh*

I dislike mine. When I click it, it wll make the normal sounding click, then when my finger is off the button, ill hear another click like something is popping up which I noticed is the ring around the button

Same here. If it didn't make that secondary click, all would be well. I'm so worn out on this and just wish I could get used to it, however I just can't. It irritates me greatly since I'm so aware of it. It's a real shame that such a beautiful device is blemished by something like this. I don't buy the argument that it's new hardware, etc. etc. and that's why it clicks. It's a simple case of sloppy engineering.

My 5S home button actually changed its clicking sound :D
At first it was more like a sticky-clicky sound. And now it is a very dry clicky sound. The button itself and the sensor are working perfectly but the sounds just drives me nuts! I hope it won't get defect.

Same here. I'm gonna give it until the last day of my return period to see if it helps. Which is until November 1. Maybe the click will go away like some people have said.

Otherwise the phone is great. Of course the compass is off but no yellow tint or screen lines. I miss my old. 5 blue tint screen but this one is more of a red yellow ish. Lol

If you have problems after your return period what would you do?
Apple warranty would replace the phone within 12 months wouldn't it? No matter where you bought the phone?

I would set up a Genius Bar appt and show them the problem and they would hopefully replace the button or swap the device if it's after return period. But before return period ends I like to just replace the entire phone and get a new retail box. That's just me though.

It's very simple. See flowchart:

Seriously, I find plenty of faults with Apple products but this **** is getting ridiculous.

If the surroundings you are in are quiet or your hearing is very good you are going to hear the click. This is normal. In a normal environment with noise , talking etc you probably won't. Hear it

Actually, my button sound has changed entirely from the day I got it. Now, there is almost no sound whatsoever. I've never had an iPhone or iPad with a quieter button.

Sounds like there are some major inconsistencies with the build on these buttons.

Both me and my wife's 5s does this. All the 5s in the store does this. It's normal as far as I can tell

iPhone 5s screen making clicking noise

Have only had my iPhone 5s for three days when i found that my phone makes the clicking noise in the middle of the screen. :(
Purchased my phone via apple.com.
Home button, top and bottom of the screen make no noise at all.
So phoned apple, they could have not been more helpful, new phone being dispatched ASAP and old phone being collected as well.

Apple service is fantastic :D:D
Just a shame the product had the fault in the first place. :(

IF YOU DONT WANT TO HEAR THE CLICK, just adjust the WAY you click.

I think it's fine, Idk whats the big deal. I can hear it but if I don't want to that much, I only click half of the home button and use the front screen glass for grip. try it out!

Thought I would share my experience. I had 3 space grey models that had a very loud click on the home button along with a rattle up by the power button camera area. Each one had the same issue without fail.

Have a silver model now. Couldn't be any quieter or solid. No click no rattle. Home button is the most quiet one ive ever had on any iphone. Just lick of the draw.

I can see both sides of the argument. It's a phone it's going to make noise. And...I paid good money and expect it to be perfect. Both are correct and luckily there is a return and exchange policy for those who want to get exactly what they expect.

Its not that easy. Ive clicked the home button the same way since June 2007. Thats 7 1/2 years of clicking it the very same way. Changing the way I click it should not be an option for a phone this expensive lol.

It was like this for the 4S but with the screen. I had 4 black 4S with ugly screens, switched to white and it had the screen that the display models did.

However I just cant go back to white.

I'd love to swap mine out for a new box and see if I can get a better button, but unfortunately all the Apple Stores in my area have been sold out since launch. I bought my phone in store, but does anyone know if I can go through the exchange process online instead of in store?

Kind of sucks that the exchange option basically isn't possible for those of us in high demand areas that bought from a retail store. Anyone else trying to figure out a way around this?

That happened on my 5S I got on launch day. Didn't think much of it till I went back and tried the others in the store. Mine was definitely loud. I exchanged it with no problem. I kind of miss it now?

Weird but every silver/white one in store was smooth as silk and the space grey had a totally different feel to them. My buddies silver is just like mine smooth and quiet and every single grey model is as everyone is describing here.

Some people prefer the click. It's all personal preference. Everyone is different and if it annoys you and you know they also not do it, it's your right to get what you want within policy.

I think it needs to break in, as others have stated. 1 week in and the loud clicking sound is completely gone on my phone (still has a nice tactile click).
