I have to agree with the previous poster. I think there are MS & Samdung trolls on these forums. Never used to be the case but there are more of these rather sad folk.

Ironically - most of the people you probably consider trolls are long time Apple fans who are frustrated or whatever. Just because someone speaks "against" Apple or one of their products doesn't make them a troll - paid or otherwise.

But if you sleep better at night believing that anyone that dares to think differently than you is being paid or otherwise to do so - then sweet dreams

Just another made up "theres no phones on launch day, cos their so brilliant" set up from Apple. The non pre order of the 5s is all part of the same game their playing to hype up the spec bumped phone. Happens every year.

Maybe,but probably bogus

Apple retail employees don't know anything about what they are getting in inventory quantity.

If you spoke to someone from Cupertino, maybe. But not at the store level.

Some folks are speculating that A7 is 22nm and possibly made by Intel. If TSMC, who announced that 20nm SOC is slated "early 2014," this could explain why 5S will be so limited initially.

Interesting read:

I'll give that a read. Thanks Nicky.

I don't see that happening but I was also wrong about 64bit ARM this early. If things come in 3's, there will be 2gb of RAM and an Intel fabbed chip in there :D

A survey from earlier this year showed that the 16GB and 32GB models were far more popular than the 64GB version, with nearly 90% of iPhones purchased being the lower two capacities.

And people want a 128gb iPhone. Not going to happen.

People bought what was available, and in their price range. Thats basically a survey saying 90% of people dont want to spend more than $200, and is not necessarily an indicator for whether people would or wouldnt buy a 128gb iphone.

I hate it when people accuse a company of just being greedy, its cliche and usually more complicated than that, but this is one i feel differently on. Holding storage hostage for a device that does ipod/camera/HD video camera/64-bit apps/etc. is greedy. $100 for 16gb is silly.

How hard is it to make a phone that's a minor variant of the phone they were already making?

Should we infer then that you are not an R&D engineer in any field? Because if you are... WoW...

Expert Paranoia Syndrome.

They love the frenzy. Makes people want more.

Rub it to samedung and others.

The new case = major redesign, same case = minor redesign mindset is a big pet peeve of mine and probably others. I'm not in favor of calling people Samsung plants though.

Good for you not calling out plants :)

As for your statement, I respectfully and slightly disagree.

The case is the same, for all intents and purposes. They spent about 10 minutes in Solidworks to move some screw stand-offs a few mm's and then translated that to whatever CAM program their CNC's are running.

There is no major redesign at all here. It's the same damn phone case with an extra sliver cut for the flash and a few slightly moved screw holes.

This WOULD NOT cause any production delays at all. Anyone that has experience with CAD/CAM/CNC will corroborate this.

Im counting on not many people in this area being at the local at&t store thats less than a mile from here....which means the line will probably be insane.

due to launch day, are customers limited to how many iphones they can buy at the Apple Store on release date?

That didn't happen last year.

Those on this forum who think the impending shortag is some sort of publicity stunt are, sorry to be harsh but, complete idiots. Wall Street isn't impressed with lines on 5th avenue, they're impressed with the cold hard cash Apple makes everytime an iPhone is sold.

There is no doubt that the supply constraints are due to ramping up volume production with a lot of new components, and in particular you have to suspect the fingerprint sensor which is a very novel technology.

On top of that they are launching in the US, UK, China, Japan, etc. all at the same time. It's not easy to go from 0 to 2 million per week in the snap of the fingers. It only takes a shortage on one component to hold up the entire production line.

So, please stop with the conspiracy theories. : )

This! Exactly this. What do you think makes more revenue for Apple, artificial constraints, or selling as many as they can ship? If Apple could have four times the supply to sell and still sell out, why would they delay that cash for buzz? Revenue beats internet buzz any day.

Typical apple. Releasing a product it can't supply enough of on top of their premature iOS 7 launch.

Typical forum reader. Not noticing that just cause the carriers will have sheet numbers doesn't mean anything about the over all. Apple could be holding back to encourage sales at their own stores.

And typically the only reason apple has issues at launch is that they can't always guess what the popular models are going to be. But they still manage to make solid seven figure sales

They aren't just making that phone. The 5S is hardly a minor variant.

Reminds me of the 90s-era incapacity to deliver the PowerBooks that people most wanted - so it is a double failure: OVER-DELIVER on crap (5C) and UNDER-DELIVER on the better model (5S)...terrible approach.

You don't know that that is happening. Some ANALyst claims supplies are low cause a carrier told him they aren't getting a lot and everyone thinks the sky is falling.

iPhones 5s

It's kind of ridiculous that Apple isn't supplying the vendors with enough iPhones (16GB & 32 GB) on launch day. So let me get this straight, you will have people wait in line for maybe couple days, hours just so they can be notified that they have ran out of those phones. Then have them wait for another week or two... hopefully. Why not just have a large shipment before the launch date, believe me that would be a better move. People have waited a long time for this phone and I for one have waited. I know it wouldn't kill me to wait another week but honestly I shouldn't have to wait another week. Apple get your sh$% together.

with more and more carriers placing limits on how much you can download, the cloud is not the best place to keep itunes.
Matter of fact, I just passed up a 4g iPad from my work because it would kick my plan off of unlimited data and I would only get 2gb data per month.

Kinda depends on where you live. In the UK, with EE plans, its common to get over 10 gbs a month on 4G

Perhaps you forgot a new processor, coprocessor, fingerprint scanner....????????

I'm sure it's as easy as you've outlined. You shoukd be Applle's new CEO.
