Your app will not work on an iPhone 5 (or 5c)?

You know there is a large number of people who have a 5/5c/4S and will not get the 5s (Some buying them now, after the 5s came out) you are missing a lot of sales!

Nope, the M7 motion co-processor is required for my app (see signature). It's a bit tough to develop an app using a new feature that limits your user base so much but oh well.... I personally find it useful and I guess that's what matters the most. It would be fun if more people could use it though.

And when I said this makes me happy, I meant to say the fact that the 5S was launching in more countries. I think I forgot to quote that properly in my post.

Ordered mine on 9/30. Just got the message today that it has been shipped and should be here in 11 days. 11 days...I wondered why would it take so long to ship a phone. Looked at the tracking info...it was shipped UPS today...from China!!!

still seems like a long time to ship. I would expect half that time from china.

Funny how the haters all came out of the woodwork to trash my comment, yet it's the second-most liked comment out of all 55.

Are you kidding me ?? I ordered on launch day and I'll get my phone the same time that people who order today ?? Whats going on Apple ??? Horrible process !

You'll probably still get yours first. This rollout is very similar to the last 2. After the initial production run sold out in a few days, it took a few weeks for them to catch up. Remember, they had several weeks to build phones to prepare for the launch. Now they are shipping them out as soon as they are produced.

----------

Has it happened before that phones have not been delivered two weeks after having been ordered by customers?

Yes. Each of the last 2 years.

Surprised there is still a wait...

I haven't been following the situation closely, but I am very surprised to hear people are actually still waiting for their 5s to arrive.

My wife ordered her 64 GB silver 5s from AT&T on 10/6, it was picked and shipped on 10/7, and we received it on 10/10. We only had to wait 4 days to receive ours.

Maybe 64 GB is not a popular option? Even if that were the case, I can't believe some are having to wait for close to a month.

I'm really surprised most of you who ordered few days after released still haven't received your phones. I did an in-store order with Best Buy on Sep. 28 and got it in Oct. 4.

But your best bet is still to get it directly from Apple. When you get it from a third party, they take some of the profit away from Apple. But when you buy stuff directly from Apple, they get 100% of the profit and they don't have to share it with some retailer.

I love how 90% of you ordered or wanted the gold iPhone.

Here's the logic: (right?)

Space gray? I think i prefer the black of the old one better than this new gray color. Plus no one will be able to tell if I have an iPhone 5 or a 5s from a distance.

White? It's classy and still looks fresh, but again it's almost the exact same as the 5. I'm sophisticated so I don't care if people know that i have the latest model. Maybe i'll get white.

Gold iPhone? Lol, that color is soo effing sick. bling bling. I sorta want to get it even tho it's so over the top and not my personality. My friends are going to think it's hilarious and be super jealous.

And what did we learn?
That differentiation from the prior model is the key to selling a ship load of iPhones.

Too bad cell carriers are on a 2 year subsidy schedule AND the pace of innovation in the tech world isn't fast enough to justify a total refresh every year AND changing screen resolutions would be a hardship to app developers AND Apple's profit margins decrease at the introduction of new iPhone's due to factory re-tooling.

I drove down to my local T-Mobile store on a whim and bought a 5S outright a week or so ago, no waiting. Returned it a few days later - not even close to being worth an upgrade from a 5.

Wait, what? Lol... because Apple is bleeding margin.

Apple has the most stringent requirements of third party retailers:

1.Those who are commission based don't make a commission when they sell/activate an Apple product.

2.If they are elgible for an employee discount, they don't get one if they purchase an Apple product.

3.If a carrier doesn't sell enough iPhones, tough luck, they have to keep their agreement (because Apple won't let them sell their product any other way) and buy more from Apple.

When VZW started carrying the iPhone, direction from the top was that they were under no circumstances to speak about specifications when a customer inquired about different phones compared to the iPhone (this may still hold true today). To extend off my 3rd point, if a carrier is down on iPhone sales, direction was to push the iPhone (like that is even necessary considering how well the iPhone sells itself) for fear of not backlogged inventory.

Sorry

I had the hope that irrational human behaviour could be corrected, but you have proven me wrong. Nevertheless, I won't reply, so you won't be just a troll, but an ignored troll.

Too late, you already did. Thanks for playing, please try again, and next time come prepared with something more original the the cop-out personal attack "troll". It fell out of fashion among people with a modicum of functional brain cells many years ago.

I picked up a 64gig Space Grey the morning they went on sale, took all of 30 minutes and I didn't have to sleep out over night or any crap.

The color doesn't matter as mine is currently in side one of these... and yes it's orange!

Ok so that means that I will be able to walk in at best buy and purchase one without the techs saying that they don't have anymore 5s available?

I've always heard that because there is less sales commission made on the iPhone, salespeople are naturally driven to pushing any/all other cell phones. I've never heard the bit about "not mentioning specs" but if Apple chooses to not market itself based on specs in the Verizon store it would make sense to me.

Why get into a CPU/RAM pissing contest with different operating systems needing different amounts of resources to run smooth and reliably? I read a review of the newest galaxy phone has 3 gigs of RAM (!) which is nuts, yet it apparently still lags and crashes under its own weight, so what's the point of all these specs anyway if it takes 2 minutes for the photos gallery to open?

Anyway, those poor souls who were suckered into buying all those iPhones, and those poor salespeople who were forced to do it for virtually no money!

Yeah that sucks. I went to Best Buy on launch day and reserved one and got it 5 days later.

So, basically, shipping changed from sometime in October to sometime in October. Awesome reporting.

A sneaky way of saying our October shipping.... is now also first week of November ;)
