(Disclaimer: I hate to be that guy, but it's getting pretty ridiculous now...)

I know it's to be expected, but if that's all, then I really hope that Apple has something really amazing up their sleeves for iOS 7...

Where's the innovation that we know and love?! :apple:

Just saying....a couple months to radically change iOS's UI or undue the years of things Forstall has implemented is almost impossible.

I dont think iOS 7 will be the update everyone is looking forward to, maybe iOS 8.

I'm not expecting a radical redesign or anything (not yet, anyway) but I do hope they have a few big new features to really 'wow' us in iOS 7. I'd be pretty disappointed with another iOS6-esque update.

If they can do that, then I'd gladly wait another year for a really great teardown and redesign of iOS.

One more thing ...

that is not mentioned in this article is that the iPhone 5S will probably come in one version supporting LTE on all networks worldwide, rather than the three different versions of the iPhone 5 for different networks.

Battery life may also be improved. I don't expect many iPhone 5 users will upgrade to the iPhone 5S, just as I don't think many iPhone 4S buyers already had an iPhone 4. I believe most iPhone 4S buyers were either new to the iPhone or replacing the (original) iPhone or the iPhone 3G or 3GS. I expect the incremental improvements of the iPhone 5S over the iPhone 5 will attract many iPhone 4 and 4S owners to upgrade.

Must be a response to the Galaxy S4, really we need a faster processor? We hardly have any programs that take advantage of the A6.

Instead of being a leader, Apple has become a follower.

I don't think they are going to do anything radical. One change in the UI I know they won't make, but I won't quit wishing for, is the ability to delete stock apps like Newstand, Compass, Videos... I know we can hide them in a folder on the last page, but the freedom to do away with them would be refreshing.

I re-upped my cell plan about a week before the 5 came out, the extra row of icons and easily scratchable backplate weren't appealing to me. I should be ready for a new plan and phone about the time the 6 comes out. I'm hoping that by then iOS 7 will be out and they will have some changes to it. Something that is more than baby steps for the iPhone 6 and iOS 7.

I'm the biggest Apple fanboi around, but it seems their desire to innovate died with SJ. The competition is closing the gap in my mind. They are closing that gap by bringing out comparable hardware at cheaper prices. If they haven't done something special by iPhone 6/iOS 7, I think I'm going to have to go check out the grass on the other side of the street.

I like some of the weather/sports/news integration straight into the OS that Winblows 8 is doing as well. For the price of my Air I could have bought 3 new Lenovo laptops, sleeves for all of them and a bag to carry them. It's just something to think about.

Apple seems to be resting on it's laurels while everyone else is clamoring for their throne. Winter is coming...sorry, just saw the trailer for season 3 of thrones.

Bring it on. My iphone4 feels a little laggy. Not to mention that my money is ready.

Apple seriously needs to change to a 1 year design interval and a silent upgrade to their phone mid annually, if need be.

What do you expect to get before upgrading?. If you actually have the 4, not 4s, the upgrade to iphone 5 is all ready a quite noticable improvement.

Yep, I quite happily have the 4 and will keep it thanks. I only use it as a phone and for a couple of apps for photography that show me where the sun is at any date or time.

I don't think I would actually experience a "noticeable improvement" at all, seeing how basically I use the thing. I took a look at the 5 in stores on release and it wasn't actually much faster at firing up or getting to the basic screens I use, so didn't upgrade then.

As my self-esteem isn't dictated by the devices I'm seen using either, there is no need for me to update there either! :p

I think I speak for everyone when I say we don't care what the s has .. The s has always been the version to get .. The way to go is to kill it with ios7 .. The iPhone 5 is amazing hardware as it is .. And us staying with apple isn't because of chips and cameras.. PLEASE REVAMP IOS :D

I could've predicted this headline 5 months ago when the iPhone 5 launched in October....don't know why this is getting front page attention on MR.....must've been a slow news day on the Apple Front then.....

considering the fact that... the HTC One and the SGS IV are looking like massive hits

Don't forget the Blackberry Z10, that doesn't look too shabby either...

(Although, that "Knox" feature on the GS4 brought down my excitement, since having a separate "work" mode was one of the things I really liked about it...)

Are people really complaining about a 5S with upgraded internals and no hardware change but yet are claiming Samsung is innovating and are ready to buy a galaxy S4 (S3S) when's that phone is almost identical to the S3??
O wait they did make the screen bigger by .19 inches!!!! OMG Samsung is innovating so much I CAN'T TAKE THIS EXCITEMENT!!!!

Apple just release the new iPhone with a 4.19 inch screen and innovate again please.

iOS and smart phones in general has reached a ceiling. You can add better hardwares and new softwares, but the experience will be the same. The only notable improvement I can think of is to offer access to full fledge OS like OSX to run high quality softwares.

"hardware" or "design / build quality"? In terms of HW specs, most Android phones have been ahead of Apple for years now. In terms of design and build quality, the only phone on the market that bests (and even surpasses) Apple HW is the HTC One now and they can't produce even minimal numbers of devices and have to postpone over and over again. I'd go with a One any time if I were sure that HTC will release timely updates. However, the phone already comes with an obsolete version of Android out of the box and is very unlikely to be upgraded within the next 12 months.

I just sold my iPhone 5 because the screen was simply too small for my needs (I do all my reading on my phone). Also, I had to find out that the Nexus 4 has a considerably better keyboard (also an area where Apple used to be way ahead of the competition and is now lacking behind because zero improvements were made in the last 5 years while Google massively improved on their keyboard) and while the UI in general is equally fluid on both the iPhone 5 and the N4, I find that applications load much faster on the N4. What I'm going to miss is the iPhone's camera, which is drastically better than the N4's - but that's a small trade-off for me.

now the question is would you upgrade for free?
i sold my unlocked 4 for over 300 and upgraded for free... why not? better camera's no lag. The 4 compared the 5 is ridiculous jump(i had my 4 for over 2 years).
longer you wait worse resale value and no upgrade for free anyone. I think its pointless to wait past 2 years if you can upgrade.

As has been stated numerous times before, and as Ventilatedbrain here has pointed out: the software is crippling just the most optimized and performance driven hardware that is on the iPhone 5....c'mon apple 4 months and still now keynote announcement? Really???? I hope I don't have to wait until WWDC to find out about the mythical iOS 7 (i know its not mythical in its actual sense, but nothing has been announced of when it will be released, so it could be thought of as being mythical in this sense)....

I have one of those sitting next to me (I got an eval unit from my employer) - in short: I hate it. It's rather slow compared to the iPhone 5 and the N4 (apps load really slowly, native apps are fine but 80% or more of the apps in the store are Android ports which lag massively, battery life is still appalling - the phone goes down 5% per hour even when the radios are off - and that's with the latest update - before it was even worse).

Definitely no competitor.

So then you really don't care if apple makes avhuge or small improvements in the next then... Because you got everything you need all ready ;)
