1. Not everyone likes big screens, I know people that prefer the 3.5" instead of 4" screen. And 2. They are not asking you to spend anything, if you are happy with what you have keep it..
But 3. I agree, they need to actually do something, Steve must be turning in his grave watching samsung take over like this.

I understand not everyone wants a big screen, but for me personally I would rather have one. It is frustrating my iPhone can do everything my iPad can and make calls. BUT, I still have to carry an iPad around to do anything as the screen size of my iPhone frustrates me. I don't need a phone the size of an iPad Mini, but an iPhone around the size of a note and I'm in heaven.

Those are rumors, and I'll wait before bashing at Apple. If those predictions DO however turn true, I will highly consider the S4 or HTC One as I have just had my iPhone 5 stolen. Bring it on Apple... please... I want an IveOS and innovation. Not a higher pixel density.

The S4 is the phone of the year.

Going to take a while for everyone else to catch up. By which time the S5 will be out and set new standards all over again.

Yeah cause Samsung is so innovative...

now the question is would you upgrade for free?
i sold my unlocked 4 for over 300 and upgraded for free... why not? better camera's no lag. The 4 compared the 5 is ridiculous jump(i had my 4 for over 2 years).
longer you wait worse resale value and no upgrade for free anyone. I think its pointless to wait past 2 years if you can upgrade.

Exactly what i did. The difference is amazing.

Still, there isn't much (save for Siri and Facetime over cell) that the 5 can which the 4 cannot.

I strongly believe that we will be wowed this year with their advances with iOS7 and the next iPhone upgrade.

I know this isn't what a lot of people here want to hear, but realistically, I don't think iOS 7 is going to wow people nearly as much as they'd like. This one will still have a lot of "Forstall" in it, and going through such a huge shake-up in the development team and getting rid of the skeumorphism stuff likely set them back a bit. iOS 8 is probably where the big Ive-inspired changes will be seen.

I could be wrong, but be prepared for disappointment...

This year is all about software.

iOS 5 - big upgrade
iPhone 4S - minor

iOS 6 - ehh upgrade (probably the worst iOS to date)
iPhone 5 - big upgrade

iOS 7 - big upgrade
iPhone 5S - minor

I think in 2014 is when Apple will truly innovate again, with a larger screen iPhone, etc. It's going to be interesting next year, because the S5 will probably get completely redesigned. It seems like Apple and Samsung are releasing incremental updates this year and focusing on software.

Fingerprint sensor instead of the standaard home button would be a great innovation and Near Field communucation too (altough Smasung already has the latter). If it is just the processor and the camera...........I'll will spent my money on something else :(

When they first launched the iPhone, they looked around at the competition, looked at the problems and made a 'leap frog' product, as Steve called it, I think.

I wish they'd do the same again now. The result would be the iPhone 6. Obviously do what's needed to support all previous apps. If they could shake off the past and make a leap forward with the retina MacBook Pro, they can do it with iPhone, right?

A large screen is no innovation at all, large screens have been there for years (on other devices) and if I am looking for a real large screen I will buy an iPad or a MacBook.

----------

Mobile phones have become mature devices with litlle room to innovate anymore, don't expect massive new thing to appear here anymore: this is it with some tweaking the screen size, the battery and camara.

The extras will have to come from the software and here is where Apple still has an advantage over Android although this will become smaller and smaller over time.

Time to search for a new hobby to spent your money on (iWatch?) :D

I just used that as an example since the iPhone screen is way smaller than others. Of course it's not innovation but its a step in the right direction hence I put etc since I didn't want to put something like "the next iPhone could read your mind".

This "S" version iteration has come at the worst possible time for Apple. Samsung/Android have got a firm foot in the door now

Phones already have almost all the hardware that's possible to put in them, so any new phone will inevitably be just a spec bump hardware-wise. There is no hardware innovation in the Android phones either for the past several years, just bigger screens and fasters CPUs and whatnot.
The real difference now comes from software, so the most important thing to pay attention is iOS 7, not iPhone 5S.

Must be a response to the Galaxy S4, really we need a faster processor? We hardly have any programs that take advantage of the A6.
You can't be serious! Processor. Performance is on of iPhones weak points.
Instead of being a leader, Apple has become a follower.

This is plain garbage. All this talk about useless innovation from the competition implies that Apple should be a follower. Big mistake they need to blaze their own trails.

Yep, I quite happily have the 4 and will keep it thanks. I only use it as a phone and for a couple of apps for photography that show me where the sun is at any date or time.
That is what I use, no need to rush an upgrade until a significant improvement comes through. Beyond that I'd rather spend money on a new iPad.
I don't think I would actually experience a "noticeable improvement" at all, seeing how basically I use the thing. I took a look at the 5 in stores on release and it wasn't actually much faster at firing up or getting to the basic screens I use, so didn't upgrade then.
Well LTE is nice but honestly that is far more usable on an iPad.
As my self-esteem isn't dictated by the devices I'm seen using either, there is no need for me to update there either! :p
You got that one on target. It surprises me how many people buy what should be stool for the bling factor.

3GS, S = Speed
4S, S = Speed & Siri
5S, S= Singerprint Sensor & Speed

afraid that this 5S won't be enough for people to upgrade let alone switch from other platform. hopefully iOS 7 will bring something new.

5S, S = Security

Fingerprint scanning, new software, & NFC could make it the "secure iPhone".

I see constant references to the need to revamp iOS but with zero details as to what needs to be improved. Why's would strengthen your argument.

I think I speak for everyone when I say we don't care what the s has .. The s has always been the version to get .. The way to go is to kill it with ios7 .. The iPhone 5 is amazing hardware as it is .. And us staying with apple isn't because of chips and cameras.. PLEASE REVAMP IOS :D

A large screen is no innovation at all, large screens have been there for years (on other devices)

A large screen with a 1080p resolution and 25% less power consumption than previous AMOLED displays (with AMOLED already using less power than LCD) IS innovative. I personally believe that the screen is the most important part of the phone - but other people may think differently.

If the body was solid, I could accept an "S" update. But this thing chips paint like nobody's business. Why should I have to wait 2 years before they fix the hardware issues?

I have two iPhone 5's, one black & one white. I look after them and bother are as pristine as they day I got them. Likewise a number of friends have the iPhone 5 and none have issues.

I can only assume that people who complain of scratches, chips & paint issues simply don't look after them very well.

That would be dreadful. In my very limited experience with android phones, accidentally activating those buttons was the most annoying thing. I'll keep my physical click thanks.

Also the worst thing about my Samsung TV, no real buttons.

OK. So go to SamsungRumors and don't get back.

Dont get back... Please explain?

If I dont buy the new iphone am I not allowed to buy/use other Apple products?

I own many Apple products so find your comments rather inappropriate and immature.
