It's OK for sure, but fundamentally it's just not what I want in a smartphone anymore.

Pass.

nothing special. I'll pass

Looking forward to IP6 with wish list below:
- 802.11 ac wifi
- NFC
- larger screen
- Better resolution screen (1080p+)
- 12+ megapixels +iSight
- 128 GB
- LTE Advanced & VoLTE (can talk and browse internet on Verizon network simultaneously)
- 1080p recording (maybe even 4k!)
- Larger and longer lasting battery

Either grow up or just buy an Android phone and go any be silly on one of their forums.

NFC is useless at the moment, no one wants a larger screen other than geeks on here, 12mp creates too much noise for the small sensor, LTE Advanced is immature network, where are you going to play 4K video? on your 4k TV set? lolz

Because mo' is (almost) always better.
Better resolution, better quality pictures, etc.

Better resolution does not automatically mean a better quality photo, and unless you are printing at a very large size, what will a a higher res version if the same photo get you?

Guess what's like opinions that everyone has one of?
Just showed a friend the power of NFC. 8MB picture transferred in 1.5 seconds.
Larger screen? I am no TV junkie but a larger screen has got me watching TV series cause the bigger screen size is more appealing to the human eye ;)

Don't hate the player. Hate the game ;)

I'm due for an upgrade as well as my fiancee and neither of us need the features in the iPhone 5s so we will both be upgrading from an iPhone 4, to an iPhone 5c. I'll be getting the blue and she will be getting the pink/red. I'm fine with it, neither underwhelmed or overwhelmed.

Compared to previous S version updates, I'd say it was pretty good.
The 3GS was what exactly, a processor update and a better camera? At least they added something else, and the new iOS looks... spiffy lol.

What I'm concerned with, is that the new Otterbox/Full protection cases, will have to sacrifice the home button area protection so that the button will work as shown.

I'm underwhelmed but only because nothing benefits me really.

Colors? Meh I have a fairly active lifestyle and use a waterproof case (and need it).

That takes me into the fingerprint sensor. From certain blogs and obvious looking at it a waterproof case can't be made for it and at least expect that scanner to work.

Camera, I'm all about that. That would benefit me. But I have no complaints currently soooo....

A7 blah blah. My iPhone isn't a toy a don't need children's games to load 3 nanoseconds faster. If your an avid iPhone gamer more power too you but I have no use for it but I'll also state I'm not against speed bumps...

Things that may have benefit me?

Wifi AC to go with my other apple products duuuhh...

Revised CDMA radio to allow talk + data and on GSM talk + LTE.

More ram, although 1gb certainly helped, apps will still close on occasion.

Bigger screen for my aging eyes

Better speaker would be nice but I don't find the iPhones terrible or anything.

MUCH better battery life

I dunno. I was just hoping not to wait another year. I really don't want to switch away from apple (and I won't) but I was hoping for more. I feel like I could pick up an iPhone 5S and once someone unlocks it for me I'd be completely bored with it in less the 5 minutes. Aside from some camera features there is nothing new...Facebook will open faster and you can buy stuff on iTunes with a finger print? Wwwooowwww.....

Underwhelmed for sure, but not surprised. Apple could have skipped all the hoopla and just brought out the phones to retail. Everyone I've spoken to (who all, btw, have iPhones now) are completely underwhelmed by the new offerings.

Reading some of the comments by people here, it seems it doesn't take much to totally excite people. A Gold ring around a button? 64-bit A7 that somehow will allow you to calculate nuclear physics more accurately on the 5S than on the 5?

Really, now, for those of you that have either nothing, or a lowly 4/4S now, then you have a nice reason to upgrade. For everyone else, things like the camera "upgrade" is really just polish on an old shoe.

I wonder if the fingerprint ID system is compatible with the corporate email security policy requirements currently in place (Exchange server) or if you still need a passcode?

Honestly the biggest surprise to me would be that they won't be offering a black/ slate iPhone this time around.

This might actually hold me back from upgrading. I think that was the best color scheme and am disappointed that instead of upgrading to a strong anodized tone, Apple took the cheaper way out.

Awww....you don't have a 4k monitor? That sucks....

Where do you live that NFC would be useless? No Home Depot, 7-11, wawa, Lowes, CVS, McDonalds, Walgreens, Foot Lockers, Five Guys, Quiznos, Best Buy, Hilton hotels, sigh etc etc around you? Don't think I'd brag about that. :)

I do think NFC would be limited on an iPhone for cost reasons initially. Apple will want a piece of that gold mine no doubt!!

Sounds like a S4 to me

Overwhelmed:

  • First 64bit ARM chip - new architecture, if 2x the performance holds true then colour me impressed (especially as mobile chip performance is said to be levelling off!)
  • First usable fingerprint sensor - a feat only a few days ago I and many others didn't think was possible.
  • First usable flash - first smartphone (camera?) that has a flash that doesn't totally suck and won't be turned off.

I'm getting sick of everybody using the "lack of innovation" line... No other company in the world could have produced the above today. In a few years when every other phone has a fingerprint sensor I'm sure it will be "obvious".

iphone 5 is fast already, an average usuer won't notice the difference 5s v 5 speed.

I agree.

But the 5S still overwhelms me.

but the iPhone 5 is still great. I am very sad it will be discontinued like an unwanted stepchild.

It IS a very awesome phone. But the 5S offers a lot more.

The flash uses lcd - it's limited to 1.5m beyond that images will be distorted and blurry... And as far as 64 bit is concerned if the OS isn't completely stable and optimized for 64bit, having a 64bit CPU won't do $h!t for your system. A change to 64-bit isn't always a great move, I hear Vista crying in the corner....

Pleasantly surprised by the 64-bit architecture, as well as the new camera and touch sensor. I was still hoping for something...more as I was watching the live feed, but in retrospect I can't really say that there is anything reasonable that could have been added. I'll be swapping from an iPhone 4S so this is indeed going to be quite the upgrade. I was considering the HTC One for a little while but the process of jumping from iOS to Android seems less worth it with these strong improvements.

Now to decide on which finish....

Underwhelmed it has nothing I care about
I don't play graphic intensive games or whatever that 64 bit thing is good for

I'm not a wannabe photographer

I'd rather type in my password than use an exploitable finger print sensor.

Maybe the iPhone 6, when my upgrade comes in.

Underwhelmed

No four cores
No stereo speakers
No wireless charge
No NFC
No black color, the grey one is very ugly, 4s black with white ring is the best

For picture, a phone can't beat a DSLR camera
Password is better, Finger sensor will make you buy app in accident

Not underwhelmed but it was pretty much as expected. Just nothing really to write home about besides the fingerprint sensor and the new gold color. So my streak of having every iPhone will end. If I had an upgrade I would probably get it but its certainly not worth paying full price for so I'll stick with my 5.
