underwhelmed. besides an incremental speed bump and a fingerprint sensor, it's the same thing.

I guess i am happy seeing that I am on contract for another year. I prefer to hold out for the iPhone 6 which will more than likely get a redesign (hopefully we might see new volume buttons like that of the mini and 5c, those little circles are annoying), a bigger screen which will be fantastic and most importantly 128gb of storage (which i cannot believe they missed in the 5s). Oh and ac wi fi (which i do not really care for).

I am however disappointed that the iconic home button logo is gone, it somehow doesn't feel like a iPhone anymore for that little change. But i am sure overtime it will grow on me.

At least we got new cases and a date for iOS7 and i look forward to installing on it my iphone 5.

Overwhelmed. I had 3GS, then 4s.
I got Siri and now get fingerprint sensor.
To me the 2nd phones in the series are the best
I am sure a 6 will be better but they will think of something new for a 6s for a much better upgrade

You could say the same thing about any iPhone model (compared to the previous generation). You purchased the 5 and want to defend your purchase so of course you'll say "Oh noooooo the iPhone 5 was a HUGE upgrade!"

Glass half empty approach
iPhone 5
- minor speed bump that doesn't make much real world difference
- a data speed increase that doesn't make much real world difference
- a 0.5" screen increase
- scratch prone design

iPhone 4s
- minor speed bump that doesn't make much real world difference
- beta siri software
- slight better camera

iPhone 4
- minor speed bump that doesn't make much real world difference
- bump in resolution
- slight better camera
- poor antenna design

The list goes on and on for the haters...

Depends on what phone your coming from. If I had a iPhone 4 or 4s this would be my next upgrade. But if you have a 5 or a Android flagship from late 2012 it's very underwhelming. If I had $299 to spend on a phone it would be the Note 3; not a 32gig iPhone 5s. Or better yet the Nexus 5 which is rumored to debut at that cost. And why does Apple keep the 16gig around at $200 when the competition is moving towards 32gig as being standard. Better yet why still charge customers $100 to upgrade from 16gig to 32gig?

And these phones are in mid life crisis mode. Time to start comparing to the LG G2, Sony X1 and the Note 3. The LG G2 is a better buy over the Samsung S4 with 32gig's being standard, faster processor and better camera with true optical stabilization.

Sure but comparing android models are irrelevant in this case. It's apple vs android.

Yeah but do Samsung & HTC sell models that are gold?

LOL That's funny!

A bit on the overwhelmed side, mostly because of the camera improvements. But that's just because we've known about the fingerprint sensor for weeks, so it was no surprise. However, if it turns out to work as well as early reports say it does, it'll represent the most compelling iPhone upgrade for me in years. I have to authenticate to my iPhone many times each day, including when I want to make a call while walking. This will make it much easier.

Why do you need more megapixels?

Maybe he wants to increase the graininess and noise in his pictures?

Hmm...
- The A7 is better than either of those older processors.
- The iPhone 5s camera will likely be superior to either of those older cameras (megapixels don't matter - really they don't. This can't be said enough, over and over again.)
- According to that chart, the iPhone 5s is significantly thinner and lighter.

So...your chart shows that Android flagships still need to catch up?

Underwhelmed. There's some solid upgrades, but nothing that makes me want to sell off my 5 and get a 5S. I'll enjoy them all next year when I get the iPhone 6.

Whelmed. It's more or less exactly what was leaked/expected, so I would say it met and actually exceeded expectations a bit. Great new phones, amazing new technologies both on the surface and under the hood, and an entirely new OS on the horizon...I'm extremely pleased and content as a rational consumer with realistic expectations. :)

It was underwhelming because I knew the major things before they were officially announced. Even if I didn't know anything beforehand, I still feel like there should have been a little more... It would have been cool if the phone had NFC and we could use NFC and the finger print scanner to make purchases. I feel like passbook could be 10 times better with NFC. I was also disappointed that they replaced the iPhone 5 with the iPhone 5C. I feel like they should have replaced the iPhone 4S instead. Oh well... I wasn't planning on buying it anyway since I already have an iPhone 5.

Either grow up or just buy an Android phone and go any be silly on one of their forums.

NFC is useless at the moment, no one wants a larger screen other than geeks on here, 12mp creates too much noise for the small sensor, LTE Advanced is immature network, where are you going to play 4K video? on your 4k TV set? lolz

I honestly feel like NFC payments will become way more popular once iPhones are NFC capable (if that ever happens)... and no one wants a larger screen? Really? lol.

I guess in the grand scheme of things it's a worthy "S" upgrade. About the same as all the rest.

I think the issue is that the competition is moving at such a rapid pace. If feels like things are getting left out for no reason.

Apple has a great wifi ac router with their airport express and time capsule but still not in iDevices?

They have a great face to face app with FaceTime. But the front camera is lacking and isn't 1080p. Granted it looks great on an iPhone but not so much on a computer or television in front of friends and family.

16 gb still the minimal storage. Which is likely a byproduct of pushing their cloud services.

So much bezel. iPhone has one of the worst screen to bezel ratios of any modern smartphone. Some of this is due to the screen size however.

I almost feel like the "S" upgrades aren't really that great of an idea anymore. Maybe it because I'm getting old or because iPhone is a household name but I couldn't imagine waiting in a line for the 5S. I will likely pick one up but only because my employer foots the bill...

Underwhelmed

Colors are Crap and just bring back black.
If flash is your strong point then you sir have set yourself up for fail
fingerprint sensor is hooked up to NSA ;)

I will wait for the iphone 6 or venture over to a different brand.

Well..

I like the new photo capabilities and I like the new security feature BUT, since I have an iP5 which is jailbroken, there is no compelling reason to switch.

Hello iP6 next year!

Yep, just think of it from a 4S user
- Much improved battery life

Sounds like an amazing upgrade for me too! :D

Please explain. I thought most people have found the 4S last longer than the 5 and this seems to have the same battery as the 5. It might be slightly better bc the phone can process faster but we're talking 10-15% improvement at best. Hardly cause to list "Much improved battery life" as an upgraded feature.

I'm underwhelmed. Top requested features were larger screen and better battery and they made no strides in this department. The things on peoples wish lists for Apple are always eventually given to us but always a year or more later. Oh well at least it works when they do get around to it. I think iPhone 6 will be what I am looking for. Larger screen and battery. The apps to utilize the 64 bit and finger print tech will not even be available until the iphone 6 is out anyway.

Compared to Galaxy S4, iPhone 5S lacks NFC, wireless charging, LTE-A (available in recently announced S4 models), Wi-Fi 802.11 ac, support for memory cards (so - half the memory), has half the RAM, 50% lower camera resolution (might be mitigated by larger sensor but I am not sure that it is actually larger), much smaller screen with lower resolution (almost 3x times fewer pixels). You decide...

The list goes on and on for the haters...

13% of people are overwhelmed. It's hard to call a vast majority of people "haters". Crap over 13% of people think Sarah Palin would be the best President ever.....so I think it's kinda a fact that this is an underwhelming upgrade.

Better Battery
Larger Screen
802.11ac
128MB

What are other crazy things that 13% of people believe in? I bet more people believe that aliens are living among us than are overwhelmed by the iPhone 5s.
