I always see teenage girls with their phones in their back pocket, don’t understand it?

Granted I haven't been a teenage girl for a few years but I keep mine in my back pocket. The back pockets of girl jeans are usually a little deeper than the front ones.

I also remove it before I sit down.

Never had I had such horrible service at Apple. To be accuse of damaging something when it was defective to begin with. I'm ok with the fact that some of the phones might be defective since Apple is trying to make 6 millions of them if not more but don't accuse us of breaking it when it's clearly a problem with Apple not us.

There's no way the phone just 'warps'. It's been damaged due to lack of care.

I hate when girls do this (obvious reasons) :D

Um... Sorry Apple but a lot of people put their phone in the back pocket.

No, some people USED to put their phones in their back pocket, and then they realized their mistake the hard way.

If your phone can't withstand being sit on, you should probably put a disclaimer on your phones.

This problem isn't limited to Apple products. The HTC One X, and Samsung galaxy series have this "problem" too.

I'm sure they could all put disclaimers on their phones about this, but then if you had to put disclaimers on phones for every obvious thing you're not supposed to do with them, the disclaimer verbiage would be many times larger than the surface area of the device. So, most vendors, Apple included, just hope that their users are capable of common sense, like the fact that a glass-on-metal device will likely sustain some sort of damage if repeatedly subjected to 140 lbs or more of flexure on its broad side.

Needless to say, the tech made it sound like he did us such a huge favor of exchanging the phone. Never had I had such horrible service at Apple.

He DID do you a huge favor, and Apple did you a serious solid. Your friend SHOULD have paid $279 for an OOW replacement, but instead, Apple ate the cost.

don't agree with you, sorry. if you willingly sit on your smartphone and it gets damaged that way, then it's you who's to blame, not the manufacturer. it's not the year 2000 anymore where we all used nearly indestructible dumb phones whose only purpose was calling and texting. and just because technology becomes more elaborate doesn't mean it also becomes tougher.

just think about it, who buys a 700 dollar computer and then sits on it? i've never even considered sitting on my mobile...just like I'd never sit on my laptop, or even on my kindle (which is relatively cheap and not very advanced from a technological point of view)

but well, maybe I'm alone with my opinion :)

edit: okay, when I started typing this it would have been the third reply to this thread. I see I'm definitely not alone with my opinion :)

Here we go again. Last year we got many rants about bending and now here we go again. Apple should print in very large fonts on their packaging " Bending Warning. Do not place your iPhone 5s in your front/rear pockets"

After 3 days of use, no dropping, just in his front pocket when he goes out, the phone had warped right by the volume button. We took it back to Apple to exchange it and was given a hard time about it.

Um... Sorry Apple but a lot of people put their phone in the back pocket. If your phone can't withstand being sit on, you should probably put a disclaimer on your phones. For a small guy who's maybe 140 lbs to sit on the phone and have it bend from that within 3 days? There's a defect on Apple's work, not us abusing the phone.

So which is it? Back or front? You seem to contradict yourself here.

which pockets do others carry their phones around in? The OP said that his friend was accused of sitting on it but in fact had carried it in his front pocket. Does that mean we can't carry our phones in any trouser pocket?

I carry mine in the front right pocket always...never had an issue. Sitting on it = bad. I'd never put it in the back pocket.

no need for apple to do so, people need to think before they do things. this world would be a better place if they did.

Um, yeah. Don't sit on your phone.

I don't care how many other people do it ... sitting on your phone is playing with fire.

The tech did a huge favor by swapping it out.

I've walked around for the past 5 years with my 3G, and then my 4, in my back pocket and had no problems.

You've been very lucky, then. At the very least I'm surprised you didn't end up with cracked glass.

I don't normally. I keep it in a holster/case on my belt. In rare cases when I do put it in my pants pocket, it's always the front, always empty otherwise, and never with tight jeans. The phone has to have plenty of room to move around.

never had a problem with either of my previous phones in the back pocket

If you actually read the OP, the OP's friend kept his phone in his front pocket and it was Apple (like most in this thread) who accused him of sitting on it and bending it after 3 days of use. If you have had no problem with keeping your phone in your front pocket then maybe, just maybe, the OP's phone was defective when he received it? A weakness by the volume buttons in that particular case maybe?

You must have missed this part of the OP:

Your impudence is outstanding! Not only you playing dumb not knowing how the phone could have been bent. I suppose Uri Geller touched your friends a** while his phone was in his back pocket.

You are so bold to come here and to cry about it, taking us for an idiot?

I suppose you would wipe your a** with sandpaper, then crying on the manufacturor having not disclaimed it as inapropirate usage.

Plain stupid ...

I've walked around for the past 5 years with my 3G, and then my 4, in my back pocket and had no problems. I was intending to do the same with my 5S when I'm not wearing a jacket.

So, you have no junk in your trunk that would crack the screen? lol

Front jeans pocket always. NEVER in the back.

I think his friend did use the back pocket. He seems to contradict himself and switches from front to back pocket in the original post.

always in the front/right pocket. left pocket is for keys/change/misc.
