It's on a 10 year cycle. Enormous phones 20 years ago. Tiny phones about 10 years ago. In another 10 years we'll be back to tiny phones embedded in our brain (if it's not fried by radiation by then). Hang in there.....

You realise I never said Apple should discontinue the 6 and 6 Plus right? I just asked why couldn't they continue the 4" form factor.

I suspect that while some people would still buy a 4" phone, most won't. Its a numbers game. That is why they are moving away from it. Get the 5S now and its totally possible that in 2 years, the form factor gets smaller due to smaller bezels etc.

I personally love the 6 but know of people who feel just like you do. Its a tough one.

I have upgraded my 4S to 6 recently and this is the most I've struggled to use a smartphone. Can't do almost anything with one hand, I constantly have to take my left hand off my hoodie pockets to do even basic tasks on this phone like changing tracks, typing, etc.

I really don't get why Apple couldn't just release a 3rd 4" size. I loved my 4S. This is a big step backwards.

You will just have to evolve. My gosh, it not that much larger. I guess I can understand if you have really tiny hands. I have the iPhone 6+ and I can't do anything one-handed with it but you don't see me complaining. Personally I really like the larger screen and apparently so does everybody else except for a select few like yourself. iPhones and android phones with bigger screens, nobody really uses a phone as a phone anymore, it's a portable computer that just happens to have a phone in it.

Don't forget about the double tap of the home button to bring all the contents down so you can reach it with your thumb. The iPhone 6 is only .7 inches larger it's noticeable, but not dramatic.
using two hands to navigate through your phone is really no big deal. Not wanting to basically just tells me that it's a sign of laziness.

I will continue using my 5S for another year. I like the form factor better. We'll see what Apple does next year.

This is just stupid. Why did Apple have to follow the phablet craze? They did find the best size for a phone to use with the original iPhone. It was perfect. This is just less functional in almost any way.

Apple didn't "follow a craze" they caught up with a changing market. So have you considered that the problem has less to do with Apple and more to do with your desire for things to always remain the same forever?

My grandma had an old wired house phone that she didnt want to upgrade. But for Christmas one year I got her a cordless phone and she hated it because she'd lose the handset, the battery would run out or it was too complex. That didn't mean that "Wired > Cordless", it only meant that HER usage pattern was to sit in this old chair in the kitchen when she needed to talk and cordless was a disruption.

Change isn't for everyone. So maybe you're like my grandma and youre better off with what you got rather than "forcing" yourself to upgrade your phone or how you think.

I don't like big phones. To me they are less portable, and for me that makes them less usable. But I'd love the improved camera, and the ability to use apple pay. I'm sure I'd appreciate the improved speed and better fitness tracking.
If apple had done this in a 5s2 i.e. didn't change the design just changed the innards, I'd have happily bought it. But don't assume that those who don't want a big phone, don't want the latest tech, it's inaccurate.

4.7 is not a phablet..

That being said I think the 6 is a slight too big. I think 4.5" would have been a better size but I can live with 4.7" since I am able to keep using my phone with one hand.

I have had the 6 for the last 9 days. When I grabbed my wife 5S I couldn't help but think " WOW what a tiny postage stamp sized screen" didn't take me long to fall in love with the 6 and not look back.

tiny phones we desired because they were phones. they didnt do anything else. all you needed a screen for was to see the number you dialed. smart phones require screen space and a very rarely used as phones

I would noit say the 6 is a phablet. It is now normal size with the 6 Plus being a phablet.

You came from a 4 to the 6 and some adjustment will be required. Humans are remarkable and know for their ability to adjust.

If you can't, go for the 5S for a while but Aplle is not going to bring back small phones so your smartphone future is going to be larger no matter what!

Using my 6 from introduction day, I did find my 5S to be small yet is still felt great and find it to still be a great device. Ashame to let it sit in a drawer but keeping it as a spare.

For me the 6 is what I had hoped the 5/5S would be!

Your idea of perfect and someone's else's are probably totally different. The only problem I have with the six is that it should have been released a year ago. Apple took way too long to offer a larger phone.

Don't give up! It just seems overly gigantic because you came from a 4 instead of a 5. The 6 to me felt like the 5 did when I came from my 4. I'm completely used to my 6 now! And as others have suggested, you can always get a 5s :) good luck!!

I agree, it's not a phablet.

Right. Before 9/19/2014, nobody used iPhones for anything but phone calls. :p

I've gotten somewhat used to the iPhone 6 (the thinness and rounded edges help with "pocketability"), but I still think it is compromised when it comes to portability. Ideally, I'd like to see an "iPhone 6c" or something with a form factor not much larger than the 5. If they shrink the bezels a bit, they could probably fit a 4.3-4.5" screen.

I have medium sized hands, and the 6 for me is going to take some time getting used to. I picked up my 6 at a local Apple store that had them in stock. I used it for a couple days, but yesterday I popped the SIM card out and started using my 5s again. While I probably will not return the 6 since I do like the larger screen size. I don't like that the majority of the apps I have installed are not optimized for the larger screen size (ironically that really bothers me). So I'll probably continue to switch back and forth between the 6 and 5s for now until I become more accustomed to the bigger size and, more importantly, apps are updated to utilize the larger screen.

And yet again......the most important part of your statement is left out........"for me". The "iPhone 6 is way to big (no not the plus) for me"

You realize that the world doesn't revolve around you and your abilities to manipulate an electronic device with one hand, right? I have a 6+ and I can do quite a bit with just one hand such has change a track that I am listening to, scroll through an read the Feedly app, Safari, etc... The Android guys have been doing it for awhile with 4.7" phones and larger. It does take a little time to get used to, especially if you are still using a 3.5" screened 4S. I came from a iP5 to the 6+. It took a little getting used to it but I can't imagine going back to a 4" phone, or a 3.5" phone for that matter. I use my iPad rMini now only to watch movies or TV shows. My iP6+ is what I use for everything else now. When I had the iP5 it was opposite since I hated reading websites on the small screen.

To each their own.

People don't have to say "for me" after everything. Anything that isn't a fact is an opinion. Saying "for me" is stating the obvious.

If I say "the phone is too big" then it's OBVIOUS I mean it's too big for me! I don't have to explicitly say "for me." It is obviously my opinion that the phone is too big if I say "the phone is too big."

Having gone from the 4 size to 5 to the 6 now, yeah, I'm now in the 4 camp. I miss the small form factor and portability. I'm not complaining as I preordered a 6 at launch. I hope they offer a smaller size version in the future. I use my phone as a phone moreso than any other task.

i have a 6 plus....but looking back at a 3.5 screen and i'm in total disbelief that i used it for so many years. we have definitely been missing out on the big screen madness for sure!

hows the plus working out for you?

I thought I was destined to be a 6 hater for sure and still think that Apple should offer a 4" screen next hardware update. But after using the 6 for a week, I am hooked and find I can pretty much do anything on it I could with my 5.

I understand when folks claim that this is the new size paradigm but it is not a one size fits all world folks. I know I would not want bigger than the 6, but I don't find the 4 or 5 too small either, all great phones that take care of business.

Same here. Found an old iPhone 4 today, thought it was like an iPod nano prototype at first lol
iPhone 6 Plus is almost double as tall.

Which is what I said after 15 days with the 6 Plus when first looking at the 6. Just imagine what I thought about the 5s. It's a toy.

Why does it have to be an iPhone then?! Get a Nokia 3310

True, but the point that I am making is that you all seem to think, or you are trying to impress upon everyone else, that Apple messed up by making the 6/6+ larger than the 5/5S's 4" screen. That they should never had entered into the larger screen phone/phablet area at all. That is how your statements are taken.

It is one thing to say the phone is too big for me. I prefer something smaller, etc..... but other may like the larger screens.

vs

The 6/6+ are just too big. Apple screwed up by launching phablets instead of sticking with one handed usable phones.

If Apple didn't make the screens larger, they knew they would probably lose a lot of customers that would go to an Android device. I know I was heavily considering it myself. I was going to purchase the Note 4 when it was released if Apple didn't release the 5.5" 6+ model. I don't know about the 4.7" if I would have been happy with that. I believe a lot of other people would have done the same. Look at the overwhelming demand for the 6+. Apple is having to up the production line for the 6+ and reduce the volume created for the 6 due to the 6+'s demand. Even Apple didn't expect the demand to be so high.

Either way, enjoy your 1-3 year old tech, 3.5" - 4" screen for as long as you want. It is your phone. If you don't like the newer iPhones, go android or windows phone.

and  back.

That's not really a solution though. I won't be able to use 5S forever either. Eventually I'll have to switch to this size, it seems.

Then what are you complaining about if you know this? Go find a 4" phone and use that then.
