Agreed.

I'm sure a lot of the overseas vendors on Alibaba or ebay may be lying about their leather, but Apple certainly has much higher standards and a reputation to protect. I believe Apple uses thinner leather for a number of reasons, mostly to reduce bulk and weight to create a slim-profile case. This may feel "cheap" to some but it is still genuine leather.

Unless someone can produce evidence other than "feel, look and smell" I'm going to believe Apple on this one. I have plenty of experience with quality leather myself and my new Saddle 6s+ case sure smells real to me.

I've worked with a leather company a number of years ago so I think I know what I 'm talking about.
Also you cannot mould 100% genuine leather so intricately around small buttons etc. It takes a synthetic material such as vinyl (faux leather) or at least mix of leather and another material to give it the perfect moulded fit. You Cannot do this with leather alone ! THis is why the genuine leather products tend to be a simpler design - because 100% leather cannot be made to mould itself around gadgets etc without synthetic materials.
There are many companies apart from Apple that label their leather genuine. Yes its genuine but at most it will be a mixed vinyl type leather. Apple etc make huge margins on all their products and if something they sell for $50, be assured that they would be paying no more than $15 to manufacture - sorry guys but it won't be 100% quality genuine leather. Don't forget the money they put into packaging, marketing etc as well. It doesn't leave much for a high quality leather.

Having worked in the area of leather manufacturing, why do you think the red and soft pink Apple leather cases feel so different/inferior to the other colours? Also how much does the Apple leather case(let's say the navy blue) actually have in the way of leather content?

What would be nice is a top grain or full grain leather case. This is the leather that wears great. Problem is it's too thick to make a form fitting thin case. It's great for pouches. The Apple case is a very thin low grade leather. They claim aniline but the grain wears off very easily which is something that happens to PU leather.

:)) Patina will not form that quickly nor look like that. Perfect proof that its NOT genuine leather.
Seems as though I'm talking to a brick wall here.

Well nobody said anything against your remark. They even agreed.

But that doesn't mean people can't enjoy their cases, can they?

Mine developed a stress crack after 5months of use, and Apple Store in Coconut point, Estero FL refused blank to offer a replacement. So for $45 for 5months use from a case, then i'd say yes i regret the purchase.

Well, I'm clearly in the minority here but I'm going to argue a point. Faux or pu leather does NOT form a patina since it's basically vinyl or mixed vinyl and leather. A manufacturer isn't allowed to claim "genuine" leather and use the natural leather stamp if it's a bonded or pu leather. Apples case has the natural leather stamp and the fact it forms a patina seems to show it is actual leather. Imo many of the people who are disappointed in the apple case wanted a case that looks the same on day 300 as it did on day 1, which is impossible with real leather. Do any of you have a leather wallet? I know mine looked much different n a week of use than it did on day 1.

Either way, whatever your opinions are, if some people (like myself) are happy with the case why not leave it be? Some people get so wrapped up proving they are right they lose sight of the point, which is the fact that we all have a choice.
