Is it really that modest though? The larger iPhone will see a 65% increase in the battery capacity. That'll make it definitely competitive against most phones.

You WANT a fatter phone?
Uh. No one ever said that. We're just more than satisfied with the thickness of the iPhone 5/5S.

Every time I take my case off of my 5S I think... damn this thing is awesome and I hate how fat the case makes it. Thinner would mean that a case would make it the same thickness as it is now without one.
Well you've clearly gotten the point.

I'm happy with the 2-4 days of use I get on my iPhone 4S on a full charge, but I don't play with it constantly. Battery life drops to under a day if using navigation/sports tracking/tehering, but it's only a few times in a month for me and then I'm conscious that I need to charge after using those functions.

The irony is that when I travel is the wall huggers are the ones with Samsuck and cheap android phones.

After a year the battery in my 5 pretty much failed. At 15% it would shut off. As soon as I plugged it in it would read 30%+.

Well then you should take it to the Apple store and have them look at it. Your issue has literally nothing to do with this article.

Maybe you missed the half dozen posts saying they would rather have a thicker phone with more battery life. Selective reading I guess.

I think we are missing several parts of this story.

First, note that the battery got 20% larger.

Second, one must consider what drains the battery: processor, radios/chipsets, screen backside illumination. We already known that Apple are changing the backside illumination which is bound to make it less power hungry. Apple introduced technologies such as co-processors in the iPhone 5S. I'm sure on no circumstances will battery life reduce. There's good reason to still hope for increased battery life with the 20% larger battery and improved/more efficient technologies.

Their changing the backside illumination because they had to change it anyway to match a new, larger, higher resolution screen. It's not possible that the new design will draw less power than the older one. But it is possible that Apple's implementation is the best in the industry so they draw less power than competing displays.

People here simply lack vision. Thinner is always better. Use a thicker device, and see how dumb it feels.

This doesn't appeal to me.

I'm a heavy user but I still get a day out of my device. I charge it up every night so it's ready for the day ahead.

We're getting closer to the reveal!

Uh. No one ever said that. We're just more than satisfied with the thickness of the iPhone 5/5S.
What about the people that were satisfied with the thickness of the iPhone 4/4S? Don't you think we should go back to that thickness? Otherwise you and Apple will be completely disregarding their satisfaction. Shouldn't you give them some consideration?
For myself, I will be more than satisfied by the thinness of the iPhone 6/6S, at least for another couple of years.

Doh! If this is correct then sorry Apple it's not what I need, I need a device with good battery power and longevity. Please listen to what we need rather than giving us your thinner obsession. Will skip this time round even though I would like a new phone there really isn't much point unless it has a better battery.

#APPLFAIL?

Don't worry guys... this isn't the whole story...

yes capacity maybe modestly improved... but the software tweaks they will implement in the ios 8 gold master will dramatically improve battery life.

Yeah, course, how on earth do you know this? Well, you don't you're "speculating".

Bit of info for everyone:

The battery in the 5S is 12% larger than that in the original iPhone, yet you get 50% more usage out of it.

power bank

I use a mophie Juice Pack Plus with my iPhone 5S and I get a combined 3,660 milliamp hours. I can't imagine Apple would be able to match or beat my power bank. If I truly need to, I guess I could purchase a spare juice pack and use that if I need even more battery so I could hot swap it?

iPhone 5s = 5.92 watt-hours (1,560 mAh)
Mophie Juice Pack Plus = 10 watt-hours (2,100 mAh)

Galaxy S5 = 10.36 watt-hours (2,800 mAh)

So the capacity of the 4.7" battery will rise about 20-25%? If the A8 manages power better, the new screen draws less power (offsetting the bigger size), and iOS8 is better optimized come GM, we could see 1-2 hours more usage time. Isn't that a good thing?

Yay!

Said no one ever.
If no one wants thinner lighter phones, and this thin-ness and light-ness thing is exclusively an obsession unique to Apple alone, why do Samsung, LG, HTC, Motorola, Blackberry, Microsoft, Amazon, and everyone else keep designing thinner and lighter phones too? Heck, it isn't even like they're just thinning and lightening their own phones. They will specifically brag about their phone or tablets being thinner and lighter then Apple's devices.

So knock some sense into your favorite manufacturer first.

I have some questions, that I haven't seen answered yet, hopefully you can help

1) Why don't people who want a bigger heavier phone with more battery buy a battery case ( or multiple battery cases if they are really into that kind of thing ) ?

2) Is it mainly fat people who don't like thin phones? My friends and I all like thin phones, but we're not fat. Is it something to do with having fat fingers, like a row of 5 bloated piggies?

3) Are people joking when they say they won't be able to hold onto the iPhone6 if it is any thinner? I understand that physically handicapped people will ( possibly ) have a problem, but again, why not just buy a nice case from the many thousands available.

I look forward to your answers...

Cue LOADS of replies saying "I want it thick not thin with more battery"

Well then, why don't you just buy one of those bulky battery add on packs and those of us that prefer thin can keep it naked.

Everyone happy. If you don't care about slim and design then you won't mind a functional battery add-on will you. Where as if you want thin you can't make the phone thinner. Makes perfect sense to me.

You whingy b*stards!

Haha stop fence-sitting ;)

Bigger batteries aren't the answer.

Intelligent power management and more efficient components are.

This right here! Bigger batteries take longer to charge it's annoying! I want the new iphone to be like my macbook air which takes only two hours to fully charge.
