Looks great to me. Not sure why folks are complaining about thinness.

Thin is good, of course. But I'd much rather have an extra mm or so of thickness if it meant better battery life.

Battery life in current iPhones just isn't good enough.

why doesn't anyone ever clean their hands and phone before shooting these videos? am i the only one that finds greasy screens disgusting as f-?

I don't see it; his hands are normal. I've worked on my own vehicles for the last 20 years and no matter how many gloves I go through I manage to get some kind of dirt stain that won't wash off for days. Hell, back in the old days I never used gloves. And I have to respect a guy/girl that actually works with their hands. A man with pretty baby soft hands is not right.

Do you think Apple are not thinking of it?

Looks great to me. Not sure why folks are complaining about thinness. There are a number of phones out there thinner than the 5/5S and they aren't breaking in two or anything. Really looking forward to the 4.7" size also.

It's not all about looks. It's about sacrificing battery life or a camera without optical stabilization just to say that you have the thinness phone on the market. I would gladly have a phone double the thickness if the battery life is double and the camera takes shake free video during my motorcycle ride. Plus I don't what a thin phone that could bend like a thin sheet of aluminum if I accidentally left it in my back pocket.
What good is a thin phone if your tethered to a charger or run out of juice?

I'm sure we'll see at least half a dozen more mock ups prior to the actual launch, but in my opinion, this is by far the best one out there and I really wish the final product will look just like that, not like the renders done by Hajek and others.

Apple rumours have changed so much. Now we even have tangible mockups based on leaked blueprints. Where is all the fun in that, that goes beyond mere rumours.

It's hard to get overly excited these days about it. It's essentially going to be a well built, metal cased 5-6" phone which will ultimately look like most of the other phones on the market.

The evolution of the software seems to be most important and in Apples case, most lacking element at the moment. Having a slightly bigger grid for your apps won't change much.

I agree with this. The most interesting aspect of the keynote will be iOS 8. Since the hardware now changes a lot more than in recent years (basically since the iPhone 4), it will be more interesting to see how they adapt the software to it. Honestly though, I almost expect just more space between the icons. iOS hasn’t seen any radical changes in that aspect. Hopefully that’s not how it’s going to be.

I would really like to see a 1080p screen resolution on the upcoming 4.7" iPhone, but I doubt it will happen because it would complicate the iOS app ecosystem.

I have to say: I'm becoming less impressed with these recent mock-ups as they pop up. Earlier, sleek concepts were interesting, but these last few.... ? I may just hang on to my 5 if the 6 looks this bland. And yes, "looks" are subjective and ultimately the performance should be the primary focus but so far these look too similar to many other options out there. Just my 2-cents' worth.

Apple is losing market share because cheaper phones from other manufacturers have improved so much, they are a viable cheaper alternative.
Apple's move? make it thinner, and increase the price by $100... go figure.

Might be an argument if iPhone sales were in decline or even flat, but they are not. If you didn't hear the news last week Apple posted record Q1 revenue on strong iPhone sales.

Most of that growth was oversees. MR has beaten the whole marketshare issue to death, but it's a meaningless stat vis a vis free and discounted Androids. Those phones are not an alternative to people who want an iPhone, and that is what the strong sales show; that the iPhone brand, and Apple's treatment of it, is hardly moribund as those like you would suggest.

Que the complainers with small hands and tight jeans!

Yes, they are lining up right behind the crackerjacks who think they are witty rehashing old saws like "cue the small hands crowd" and "Powerbook G5" comments.

(Que isn't an english word. I think you meant "Cue").

The SONY T68i

When I had that SONY phone I bought a new chassis (at the mall!) and transferred the internals. It was fun and kinda neet-O to have a transparent phone.

Maybe these guys could do the same thing for the iPhone once joh-i screws up the design.

I have larger hands and this looks too big. But only because I can type so fast and without looking thanks to using the same bottom half of the iPhone since 2007 (all they did was extend the top last time they went bigger). This concerns me.

My best guess why they're going for thinner = less battery less energy less earths resources. .

I'd go with a small battery being cheaper than an big one, myself. Thicker with a bigger battery seems to be the number one request round here, yet phones keep getting thinner, there has to be a financial motivation to ignore customers.

I was so nuts for this Iphone 6 a couple of weeks ago, then I sold my Iphone 5S and got an LG G2 for the bigger 5.2 inch screen in a minimum bezel form. I will look in on the Iphone 5.5, but if it has huge bezels it will not appeal to me.

The only thing that makes me sad, is that the iPhone Design follows now the iPad Design. Don't get me wrong...I like that design, it's just that I wished the iPhone would have its own design.
It's seems like Johny isn't inspired anymore.

Edit: It has to be thin if you have such a big thing. otherwise it would feel like a giant stone in your hand.
And I don't believe the rumor about the price increase of 100. I think it's just marketing. Make people believe your product will be more expensive but when you release it, keep the previous price and everyone will clap and make standing ovations :)

The $100 increase rumor is laughable... Not gonna happen.

Same with this 5.5" delayed iPhone. If it's not being released or at least announced alongside the 4.7" one this fall, you'll be waiting a full year for it guaranteed.

Oh, and while we're on it... That 12" Retina MacBook Air unicorn model? Keep dreaming, they just updated their MBA line we'll see you next year thanks.

I know these are rumors, but how about factoring in a little common sense? We know how Apple functions, it's predictable and slow.

;)

So much fail here, I am not sure where to start.
Apple products can and do demand a price premium, why wouldn't you think they wouldn't be able to price their products like Samsung does for the Note? On the newer pay for your device plans over 24 payments, the $100 bump becomes $4 and change a month more, are you telling me all these isheep are going to not purchase it because it now costs $4 more a month.
Why would Apple want to wait an additional year to launch the bigger phone, just because they are having build issues? Guarantee if they have it, it won't sit on the shelf another 12 months.

The Macbook Air got a processor bump, a switch of a part in production that already fit. Nothing to redesign, just a spec bump. Still plenty of chance a new model does drop, regardless of all your "guarantees".
How's this thread for your "common sense" answer? Turn out the lights on your way out.

Why the hell would they turn the beautiful iPhone 5 design into a 5c/ipod touch looking one? Too rounded for my taste, don't like it.
