If Apple is going to charge us a premium price for their phone, it better me capable of resisting an certain amount of pressure without bending. Its just common sense. As much as I love to blame some stupid people, there is an 50% responsibility from Apple to sell an product that is construct solid enough to withstand every day use.

iPhone 4 user: I lost reception when I am holding my phone.

You are not holding it right. Here is a free case that should solve your problem.

iPhone 6 Plus user: My phone was bent when I put it in my pocket.

You are not storing it right. Here is a free case that should solve your problem.

Come on Apple! We need some free cases! :p

Does that mean the price of Iphone 6+ on Craigslist will go down ? (currently at 1400 in my area)

Hmm... IPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5s, 5c... The world says 'oh Apple isn't innovative or spectacular because their phones are so much smaller than the Samsung/HTC/etc'. iPhone 6, 6+... 'Oh Apple put out a bigger phone to copy Samsung/HTC/etc, and theirs is bendy and fragile.' Blah blah blah. It seems like no matter what is done, it's never good enough for the masses. Some people out there will just point out the negatives of every device that they can come up with, just to show the weakness of the competition.

Here's a bit of advice: don't drop your phone, ANY PHONE, because they're liable to break somewhere. And if you've got a giant phone, get bigger pockets. No device is impervious to damage. Suck it up, learn from it, move on. It isn't rocket science, folks. Metal bends, glass breaks. Welcome to the world of electronics, nothing is perfect. :)

Hmm, the followup video with a Note 3 bend test says it all.

Not unreasonable to want your phone to stay straight.

*sigh* Use common sense people.

If your phone is bent, just alternate which side you put in your pocket.

One day glass in; next day glass out. So every other day your phone will be straight.

Simple, no?

;)

Apple will ship the Iphone 6 and 6 plus with a warning label :

This phone is not pants compatible.

Correct, I have no idea, but this is such a common sense problem to be checking for that either:
A. they didn't check for it at all
B. they did, and are bad engineers
C. they analyzed it, are aware of the problem, and didn't care (IE, still chose form over function).

None of those scenarios is a good thing. Your question about where I am going to keep my phone is the exact reason I am considering cancelling my plus order. I don't know where, but I know I don't want to have to worry about bending my phone if I need to store it in my front pocket occasionally.

Just by looking at the camera bulge you can tell that thinness was their top priority which makes little sense. Every single review (and I’ve seen over 10) mention the camera bulge as a negative. Granted even if you make the body flush with the camera you could still have this bending issue but that just proves that making the product as thin as possible was number one on the list. When you make something so thin you limit what you can do with the internal structure.
Apple serious needs to stop this “let’s make the product thin as possible” non-sense. I personally will be getting a mophie battery case for the 4.7” so it should make it less susceptible to bending and greater battery life; both of both worlds. Notice the word less because nothing is bend proof.

Wait, what?!

And a car should not crumple when you run it into a wall?

Place force on thin aluminum object: Object bends. Make object thinner: Less force needed. Since when did the fact that you put the phone in your pocket and applied said force become a design flaw? For Christ's sake!!

Cars are not meant to be run into walls. Phone ARE meant to be carried in pockets.

EDIT: Actually, I'll go even further with your analogy -- modern cars are specifically designed to crumple when run into a wall, to absorb as much of the force of the impact as possible. Older cars were not made to do this, and were less safe in an accident. So, to sum up -- cars with "crumple zones," and phones that can be carried in a front pocket without becoming deformed, are both examples of good engineering.

I don't know if anyone here mentioned it but, I can already see samsung using this bendable iPhone 6 and 6 plus issue within their commercials. Like they are doing with Siri and Cortana.

Cortana: I stand up straight!
Siri: I tend to slouch...

Darn....

But I'd still love to get an iPhone 6 if only they could include stabilization in that version rather than JUST 6+. I don't care for the bigger one. I might as well get the iPad Mini.

Cortana is windows phone

So many idiotic comments. The point of the video is to show how easy or difficult it is to bend your iPhone 6 Plus. It's helpful because it gives people an idea of how careful they need to be.

Exactly.

And the followup video of a Note 3 bend test shows how the competition handles such stress, which is relevant information.

Folks need to baby their iPhones. Period. I baby all my Apple products.

My Galaxy S4 gets banded about, but the back is easily and inexpensively replaced, so going case-less is not really a concern. Still, I skin, not case all my portable devices. Same goes for my wife's Note 3. in both cases, flex is a non-issue.

It sucks though, and it is certainly bad design (and PR), that the iPhone is so "flex-y".

This is the iPhone 6, this should NOT happen at this stage of product release.

gee, i wonder what could have been different about the 4-series? could it have been...they were 4.5" long and .37" thick, while the 6+ is 6.2" long and .28" thick? now, what do we know about length and levers.... oh yeah! the longer they are, the more force they generate when positioned against a fulcrum...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lever

That may be. Or it could be that they were structurally different (they are).

The curvy, tube shape of the 6 contributes to its weakness. The hard-edged, rectangular frame of the 4/4s is more rigid by design.

Still, Apple should have accounted for their choices and modified their design accordingly.

That the phones are so easily bent is indefensible.

The only way to solve this is to bend every model of iPhone with a force gauge and see how easily the 6 plus bends compared to the 5,4 and 3gs. Someone needs to get filming!

Aliminum is a relatively soft metal. Soft metals bend easily. Every single adult on the planet should know this.

The problem is not every adult on the planet who knows this. The problem is with the only adult who doesn't: John Ive. That is, the guy who keep building bigger and bigger phones while making them thinner and sticking to the choice of a soft metal... Worse: as he does that, he also removes structures in the inside of the phone, so that he ends up with just a flat surface of aluminium...

Any grown adult that is surprised by this occurrence should not be angry with Apple.

I don't see why you shouldn't be angry at a company for making bad decisions...
If your home turns to ruin, you're not angry at the architect for making bad decisions? I never understood that attitude that always find excuses for the people in responsability...

While the Note 3 retains its original appearance, its internal components will actually suffer greater stress because they are repeatedly bent back and forth as the device shifts positions and regains its shape.

Well, problem solved for the iPhone: after two back and forth, the screen breaks...

Perhaps other design choices should have been made.

Obviously. We know from a Nokia study that 60% of the male population carries their smartphone in their pant pockets. Besides, "men purse" are very connoted in many part of the world and you won't see an heterosexual with one.
What do you think of a design choice that has fatal problems with much more than 30% of the customer base (men buy more gadgets than females and I doubt that 0% of the female use pant pockets)?
Moreover, if this iPhone bends in a pocket, it will bend in many women purses - my girlfriend purse seriously weights at least 5kg and everything, including iPhone, is just packed with no order inside it. Her 3GS and her 5C both survives fine in that, but I doubt a 6+ or even a 6 would...

I wish I was better a photoshop. how to wear an Iphone 6 Plus

I have an iPod touch and never put it in a pocket because the earbud cable gets tangled and usually at least one of the foam cushions gets yanked off. So out of curiosity, what do people do with the earbuds when they stash the iPhone in their pocket?

Seriously people . . . . just use the internet.

YES with bare hands these things aren't made from diamonds or polycarbonate.

It's just aluminum and plastic and glass . . . . all very very breakable with a drop or a bend or with hands.

The iphone 4s was not made from aluminum. It was made from glass/ a thin layer of protective plastic near the glass and stainless steel. Compare steel to aluminum.

Yeah same thing with my sunglasses, I sat on them in the car and they broke. I wrote the company because of the "design flaw". They should have been shaped like my A** then would not have broken. Totally the companies fault not mine.

True story: I dropped my glasses in a parking lot, then drove off not knowing. Came back fifteen mins later to find some inconsiderate slob drove over them. Brought the crushed frames and lenses in to my optometrist, and joked that for me, this was "normal wear and tear." He agreed and replaced them.
So, I guess Applecare better get ready for a lot of "wear and tear" 6+ returns.

I have loose pockets in all my pants. I could fit Multiple phones in there easily. My phone is slightly bent as of this morning at the volume button side. I keep it face in, in my pocket. I have had in there for about 8 hours of use. This is not good. Nobody has sat in my lap or anything weird or odd. Normal use. Daily moving around. One day. It's bent. Have literally kept every phone I have ever had for the last 9 years in these exact pockets and this is the only phone I have had bend on me. 6+

This is worrying...I am planning to go to Hongkong to buy a ipjone 6+ or 6 in December....

P.s all those people defending the iphone to death...I hope yours bend. And then you will see how serious this problem is. This is clearly an issue and some are just comoletely ubsurdly defending the build quality...like some sort of religion.
