all the non sense about "bendgate" or other small irrelevant issues didn't even effect %1 of the people that bought the phone

That particular issue will take at least another month if not two for the real metrics to play out, so I would not be so quick to assume....

So a camera that juts out of the case is considered aesthetic perfection?

it is worthy setback to have a beautiful thin design. you don't want to make the whole phone fat just because of a lens. look at all point and shoot camera. its lens also sticks out.

Every worry or concern should just fly right out the window because this thing delivers in spades and you don't notice it until you just reply to a text or something and suddenly it just coalesces into a feeling of pure artistry.

I've only been here a week, but it already seems apparent to me that Bobby is just here to make fun of Apple fans by portraying an overblown caricature of them. Can anyone confirm?

When you actually own one it's awesome. Everything about it is better. The screen is really nice and the stock apps along with the updated ones make using it way more productive. The battery life is really good as well. The question really is, why wasn't this done sooner?

Not sure why everyone is b******g about the phone bending. People keep saying how it bends and I'm like it's not bending on it's own. Like some dudes in your closet playing the flute and your phone is dancing like a snake twisting and bending and you wake up and realize it's got a curved display. You got people on YouTube bending the phone on purpose just so they can get subs and likes. But hey it's none of my business.

The protruding camera indicates that from the get go the design considers selling cases to "complete it": designed for marketing and selling accessories.

I will give it a try to discuss Derpert's points.
And these are my opinions on them:

1)
Um, what is the rationale for the massive bezels?
What bezels??

2) And the lack of a front speaker(s)
Why you need front speakers? Do you want a boom box?
I would prefer stereo speakers instead, and I think if they just add one to the opposite side where the current one is will be fine.
To listen to iPhone audio unless you are sharing the experience you really only need a nice set of headphones, another Airplay device or an audio cable to connect to decent quality sound speakers.
3)
Or the sandwich design which means it will never be waterproof
I don't care about sandwich design, but I can eat one now. Making the iPhone waterproof would be a nice thing to have, even many here don't consider it a priority.

4)
Or the refusal to include industry std items like notification LEDs or IR zappers.
It already have the flash and it's enough. Why would you want that? I prefer to see many HomeKit enabled devices coming to work with the iOS devices.

5) Or the insistence on not having a rim on the screen to protect it from falls, or being placed upside down
The rim requires another component to be fabricated and installed during the manufacturing process, eliminating it is a good design practice. However time will tell if the edge of the curved glass will withstand all the stress and abuse the iPhone 6 will have. Tempted glass sealed point are its edges.

6) Or the use of the absolute minimum of ram so that obsolescence is built in for future iOS releases
RAM size is relative. They leverage the flash storage to manage some of the memory needs. Obsolescence in any mobile phone is a given for any brand nowadays the lifecycle is to release one new model every year. And if you compare with Androids they are made obsolete even faster.

7) Or. The cynical move to not include OIS on its 4.7" cousin so as to give the 6s a built in upgrade feature
Another marketing spin here to make the models different. It would had been better to have both with the same. I agree with this.

8) Or stuffing your customers by not providing a built in base-model memory of +16 GB so that you just fork out the extra 100 bucks
Forget about this, Apple and many others still milk on storage size. I prefer they make them all standard with a minimum size of 64GB and call it a day. Then have 128GB in The mid tier and 1TB for the high end price. And by the way provide free iCloud matching.

9) Or the insistence on a camera bulge because you know the phone is going to need a case
There is no insistence here. This is the first iPhone that have this nonsense. I agree that it should have not be protruding.

10) Or the insistence on a proprietary port to "just be different" and find a way to get more money for non STD proprietary accessories whilst the rest of the world uses USB
Nothing to complaint here. The cables are widely available everywhere. In Europe they provide the USB adapter so complain to local authorities.

11) Or the insistence on a non standard screen res for the smaller cousin so that the 6s can have another "upgrade"
What do you mean by this? The 4.7" has the same resolution of the 5 and 5S right?
It should had been 1080p instead. And the 6+ with a higher number to reproduce 1080p and allow for controls out of the video.

12) Or the fanfare of having NFC except you won't be able to use it until its unlocked on the 6s/7
I don't care about NFC. So no problem here for me.

13) Or the fact it doesn't come with a radio chip
Boom of again?

14) Or that the icloud is set up such that the gullible and the stupid buy storage because they think they have to given the weekly warnings if you don't
iCloud should be free and matching your apple device size.

15) Or the fact iOS has no file system in it so the only way to get stuff through it is via iTunes or air something. Got help you if you want to share any pictures or music from it.
The iCloud features work well. Same for other solutions like Dropbox. It would be nice but emails can do the trick too. So not a biggy.

16) Or the price of it compared to the competition
Well I also would like them to cost less money. But it is what it is. The flash storage price should be lowered as the market moves but stupid customers are always willing to pay more for 1 extra GB.

17) Or how I message, face time etc is locked down to apple only because, well, it locks you i n the system.
I find this better to avoid massive amounts of spam and with the 'exclusivity' there is less chance to be target for hackers.
There are always apps to manage cross platforms connectivity. Unfortunately they are now own by suckers like Microsoft (Skype) and FB (WhatsApp).

18) Masterpiece?
Yes. It allows me to access all the Music I enjoy anywhere I am. Can surf the web and be connected and accomplish anything I want from anywhere I need to go. Can record great HD videos and take incredible pictures. That many alternative devices are out there nowadays is another topic but the iPhone was the first to master all this.
Now all the flaws we see could be detrimental to continue to considering the iPhone 6 And 6+ as masterpieces. But who cares whatever people call them. Let them be happy with it and have a beer.

19) Genius?
Ask for 3 wishes and Siri will provide them.

20)
No, its a cash cow for the gullible lol.
That's what she said.

Masterpiece? To me it's a bigger version of my 5s. No phone cam wow me anymore. They do so much already.

It gives him a wonderful sense of control, wouldn't you think?

The camera rings purpose was reveled in a thread on MR that
suggested that it's for some magnetic accessories and Apple
has a patent for it, no?

That gives it another spin. I missed that thread/discussion. However if that is the case it would make sense only if they actually release them or announce them during the launch.

Ah, good, a thread about design. Let's discuss:

You are absolutely dead on with all these points. Apple has flocks of customers who will wait in line for hours for the right to plunk down hundreds of dollars for the device while knowing, without a doubt, there are better phones out there on the market. But what does "better" really mean?

Better specs? For some, like me, that means nothing. I don't care how many cores I have or how fast each core is. I don't care if I had 3GB's of RAM. Realistically, I use the phone for a few core tasks and don't need barnstormer power for that. As a result of the "low-end specs", I have tremendous battery life. Better than any phone I have owned (Note 2, Note 3, etc.).

Better features? I have owned and used all the Galaxy's, the HTC M8, LG G3, even some Lumia Windows Mobile phones. Sure, they load them up with whiz-bang features that are all show but simply don't work well. Smart scroll, smart stay, none of that junk works well enough to use consistently and rely on. HTC's Zoe feature was cool, I will give it that. But that is just software.

For me, it comes to these things:

1) Personal preference (appearance)- I simply like the look and feel of the premium materials on the phone. I will gladly (and carefully) hold my fragile, bendable glass and aluminum beauty than a plastic, cheap product from other vendors. Again, the HTC One M8 was pretty darn good in this regard.

2) Personal preference (software) - I enjoy the cohesive and integrated ecosystem. I love when a call comes in, I get it on my Mac, iPad and iPhone. I love that I have everything synced. I love that my saved passwords are autofilled on all my devices. I love the photostream feature. There are other things to list but these are a few quick ones. I know I can get SMS Relay on Android with free apps. I know Google syncs things too. I know LastPass and 1Password does password syncing. I just love that iCloud does ALL of that in one place.

3) Sandboxed OS and Software - I get frustrated at a locked down world as much as the next guy and appreciate the open world of Android. However, the more I rely on my iPhone and iPad as tools of the trade, the more I appreciate the closed nature of things. For me, I would rather someone (who is a much better software developer than I) tell me what I can do on my phone and why rather than allowing my non-technical mind to get carried away with customizations and such. Text, email, phone calls, calendar... these are some of the basic things I do on my phone. My iPhone 6 Plus does all this beautiful, simply and smoothly at all times. Because of the restrictions and limits, this stays this way going forward. The experience with these apps stays the same. I don't worry about runaway processes sapping battery life (at least not nearly as often as I did on Android). It just works.

All in all, there is no debunking your points because they are all absolutely valid. My point is that, with all due respect, I don't give a crap most of the items you mentioned.

I don’t care about the bezels. I prefer the large bezels because on my Note 3, I would frequently activate the very edges of the screen while simply holding the device. When watching videos in landscape, top and bottom bezels are convenient holding points.

I don’t care about front speakers. It would be nice to have stereo separated audio but for what I do with the phone, not missed much.

I don’t care that I don’t have open NFC. I had it for years on Android and have NEVER ONCE made an NFC payment EVER. If (and only if) Apple Pay gets mainstream adoption, I can actually see myself using that.

I don’t care that it isn’t waterproof. I don’t go swimming with my phone and simple splashes here and there don’t hurt it

I don’t care about LED’s and IR blasters. Had them on old phones, thought they were cool, configured my app to remote control my home theatre and then never used it again. LED’s simply annoy me. The less notifications on my phone, the better. My smart watch (Pebble Steel) is my “LED equivalent)

I don’t care if my screen gets scratched when setting it down. I am not one to struggle to keep it perfect.

I don’t care if the Plus has features added to differentiate it from the 6. If it was my business, I would do that too. Product differentiating is one of the most difficult things tech marketing folks deal with when their product line gets crowded. Besides, I have the Plus so I have the features :)

I don’t care if they use a proprietary port for charging/syncing. I spent about $50-$80 on cables when I converted the whole family to iPad’s and iPhones. I have chargers everywhere. The ease of use of the lightning connector blows away micro-usb any day. I’ll take that for the $80 spent.

I don’t care about the camera bulge because it truly isn’t something I notice in real world use, at all. Sure, it’s there. But people tend to bitch about stuff just because it is there and not because it actually impacts them.

I don’t care if some idiot gets suckered into buying more storage on iCloud. I didn’t and haven’t ever seen a warning. I have, however, seen Google Drive space warnings that made me consider buying more space.

I don’t care that the file system is locked down. I actually prefer that as I mentioned above a few paragraphs.

I don’t care about the price but, wait a minute…. a 32GB Note 4 is $749. While there is no direct competition, the 16GB is $749 and 64GB is $849. Average of the two is about $800. $50 difference for premium materials? I will take that any day.

FaceTime, iMessages being locked down… I hear you on that. Hopefully SMS Relay features will help with iMessages but FaceTime is not going to work. With me, everyone I care about and communicate regularly has iPhones. Generally, these are the people I send 80% of my SMS too and do almost 100% of my video calls with so I don’t miss it at all.

One could write a long-winded post about all the ways Android sucks. One could write one about Windows Phone 8. Obviously, it can be done for iOS as well. What it comes down to is personal preference. You pick the phone that suits your personal, aesthetic and financial needs. For me, after years of bouncing from Android to Windows Phone, back to iOS, back to Android, I finally have a device that feels like home. iPhone 6 Plus does it for me…. Now I better take it out of my pocket before it bends!!

Its the only thing that makes sense really.

For those of you who will have me retort to such a rendering of my character I will only respond to say that, yes, I am authentically a genuine nerd about Apple products; in addition to be being an overall multicultural human being.

Yes because adding 12 more key presses when you attempt dialing a 10 digit phone number in Reachability mode is masterstroking something alright.....

I agree. I got to see the 6 plus at apple store and play with it, and compare it to the 6. The 6 plus felt top notch, while the 6 felt like the iPhone 5c next to the 5s.
