I think people are mistaking the iPhone data usage as actual monthly usage, especially that 60gb usage guy. The usage you find in cellular settings is amount of usage used since last reset, not your monthly usage. You have to text or log in to your carrier to see your monthly.

On my phone it says 38.2gb, but my current month is only 2.5gb, and monthly average is 9.7gb.

In that case, I just logged into my T-Mobile account and since January 21st - Current I've used 8.95GB

However I think it'd realistically be higher since I stream on rhapsody often which doesn't count against my data / get noted......I think.

I call bullocks. I've consistently used the same amount of data (3-4 GB a month) on my 6+ as I have with my iPhone 5 (4, 3G, and 2G as well). I can't be in the minority on this one either.

I'd like to see the various iPad models and their cellular data plans with this. Also, since you can hotspot and iPhone for your iPad, what is the market for cellular enabled iPads?

It's definitely true. Last month I racked up nearly 25GB of usage which was my first full month with the 6+. Prior to that my highest ever usage was 11GB and my average was probably 7-8GBs per month.

how do you rack up so much data, are there no wifi spots? do you not have internet at home or at work? are you watching hd movies on it?

Duh. Most people that want the giant phones don't have a better/larger screen, that's why they want the bigger phone. So they use their phone for more data than someone with more screens.

I hear the sun will come up tomorrow, too.

Seems about right. Checking back, I've been using 2-3 times as much data since switching from the 4S to the 6+. Thankfully I've got a grandfathered unlimited plan on AT&T.

So the better it is for using the more it gets used, got it!

Nope. JAT does a much better job of interpreting the cause and effect:

JAT, you summed it up well. Concise, logical, and insightful. Well done.

Only insightful for that one particular point he was making. He's asserting that big iPhone buyers buy the big iPhones because they don't have larger screens and that's why they use so much data. Right, and this is based on what evidence?

40GB plan for 30 EUR, 3G only, we don't have LTE still. Around 2h 30min time home-work-home using public transportation. 3rd world country Netflix = MovieBox. Sometimes I use my 6+ hotspot to stream sporting events while @ work.

In other news:

People who drive longer distances use more fuel!

People who have bigger houses pay larger heating bills!

People with 6 kids spend more on groceries than people with none!

I can't really understand the larger iPhone 6 Plus vs iPhone 6 data usage being more used ...

No difference is wi-fi, not mobile tech.

People must be just downloading more :D

"Do you want fries to go with that Big Mac" ?

One factor I'd imagine is that most Phablet users are less likely to have an iPad or Android tablet for using at home... they've got a 5+ inch screen already that runs the same software. It's entirely possible that many 6 Plus users use their phones at home, instead of switching to the wifi-only iPad.

True, but those iPhone plus' would still have wifi also, thereby not using data.

I think you mean bollocks. Bullocks are castrated bovines. Bollocks is a hiberno-anglican expression for "nonsense". It also means "testicles" but I'm sure you didn't mean THAT!

This rings true for me; the screen is so much more readable I don't reach for the iPad anywhere near as much. I just stay on the 6 plus.

In this I am sure I am not unusual.
I've heard this from a number of people, but for me personally, I still reach for the iPad whenever I can.

My phone needs to be used as a phone, so if I can avoid using its battery just to read an article when my iPad is nearby, I'll do it. Plus, the Air 2 is even snappier than the new iPhones, so I still find plenty of reasons to use the iPad -- definitely my preferred device around the house.

With unlimited data plan why would you use wifi at all when LTE data has faster speeds?

This.... I have a coworker who still has a Verizon unlimited plan... even though we have Verizon FIOS at work (WiFi) - he prefers to use LTE because our office is right next to a Verizon tower and he has unlimited data (I don't).

As an iPhone 6+ user and a previous Samsung Note 3 user.... I agree with the statement that people who have bigger phones are power users and tend to use their phones considerably more than those with smaller phones. This definitely applies to me and my wife.

Back when my wife had an iPhone 5s and I had a Note 3 --- our data usage was the same in relation to LTE. Why? Cuz 99% of our data usage was on WiFi. I have WiFi at work, college, church, parent's house, my house, Starbucks...

As soon as my wife saw Ingress on my Note 3 vs her iPhone 5s she instantly wanted the 6+ so we both got iPhone 6+ phones when our upgrade came around 2 weeks ago --- and her LTE usage skyrocketed. She definitely uses her phone a TON more out and about. Had to help her turn app updating to WiFi only, photo backups to WiFi only, etc... She's already used 4GB this month (half way through billing cycle) vs averaging 1.5 - 2 GB/mo with the 5s.

See what happens when you give consumers what they want...

That is what happens when you have a larger usable screen size, people want to use it more.

I have found that small screen sizes lead me not to want to use a phone for things like games and other task that I might perform that take more than a few minutes. However, when I switched to a larger "5+" screen size I found I was starting to use it more like a tablet, meaning that increased use of games and other apps that will naturally draw more data usage. Bigger screen = more usability and more opportunities for a variety of uses.

Which is why I think Tim Cook is out to lunch thinking I will use an iWatch screen for more than a quick glance. I can't imagine anything compelling enough on an 1.5" screen that will have me poking my wrist for more than a few moments, and definitely not 20+ minutes. I really think Apple is out to lunch on usability of a watch and thinking it is analogous to a tablet or phone platform.

If you want to see what the user experience is of having an iWatch that thinks its a tablet, hold your arm up and look and poke at your wrist for 20 minutes, if you can last 20 minutes then you should definitely buy an iWatch, but most people will tire of that experience after no more than 1 minute. How many "millions" of apps can you generate for people that will not want to use the device for more than 1 minute at a time?

It's no wonder why the usage of the human brain has degraded since 1990 and exponentially degrading quicker as technology for media consumption advances creating brainless media activity that is readily available anywhere, anytime.

In another 30 years, we'll have the equivalent of human zombies for intelligence.

Bad attempt at a troll post...

IQ has been increasing at incredible rates since 1950, so much so that the average kid in 1950 would be mentally handicapped by today's standards, and the average kid today would be exceptionally gifted by 1950s standards. It's referred to as the Flynn Effect.

Technology has assisted in this, and the gap of what we are capable of with and without it will only continue to grow... intellectual deficiency will simply be tied to your abiliy (or willingness) to utilize the tools that are present. People with a better grasp of technology and keep up with it will continually outsmart those that do not. And visual media is a huge part of this...

I thought the reason was because the iPhone 6 Plus has a bigger screen, more pixels, and therfor download more information from a website because it shows more information then the screen on iPhone 6 or 5/5s. Or downloading higher quality on 6 Plus it has a FHD screen compared to 6s lower resolution.
