Wrong. If I want to use my current setup I need to buy an iPhone 6 which can bend easily. This is a major design flaw.

Then I assume you had the same issue with the 5 and 5s that also bent easily?

And in the subway, you would put it where ? On the floor ? - My pocket when standing, my hand when sitting
And at the cinema, you would put it on the armchair, where it can be stolen or forgotten ? - Sometimes the cup holder, sometimes my hand or shirt pocket
And at the office during a meeting, you would put it on the table in front of you where it will be a distraction from your work and annoy everyone each time you receive a notification ? - Yep, along with a dozen others that my coworkers have placed on the table...I think you've never been in an office environment based on that reply

What's the point of Apple going all NFC payment if you have to reach for the phone in your backpack everytime you buy something ? - I'ts not in my backpack, it's in my pocket...but then again, I'm not sitting when I go into a store to make a purchase am I?

The normal place of a phone is in your pockets. It's where you can feel it vibrate, it's were it's the safest from theft since you usually feel what is going on in your front pockets, it's where it's easy to reach for it if you need it.

The screen won't shatter under normal use.

Neither will the phone chassis.

Face it people, after 5/5s bending at volume buttons fiasco, Apple has done it again with the 6. It's a huge design flaw that Apple should've addressed it during development of the phone, but obviously didnt.

and saying how people should not carry their iphone in a pocket or wear skinny-fit jeans, just so the phone doesnt bend, is just stupid.

This. That's about all there is!

----------

I hope you get a replacement. Maybe it was a manufacturing defect , cause as you say, the most logical place to keep a phone for a male is in a pocket

They will absolutely give him a new phone. No question about it.

How was it a fiasco? It was such a rare occurrence that people continued buying the phones. It will be the same with the 6.

Man puts large piece of malleable aluminium into a pocket that exerts force on it because it's too tight.

It bends.

If you put your credit card in your pocket without any case, guess what happens after a while. It breaks!

Even apple cannot defy the laws of physics, if something is put somewhere where it endures forces exceeding its design limits it will bend/break.

The 6 plus is too big to be put in trouser pockets. Cargo trousers maybe but not 'normal' trousers.

Steve Jobs himself had the iPhone in his pocket during his keynotes and was proud to show it off like that. Do you expect someone to listen to their music on the iPhone with the phone in a separate bag? Do you expect someone to carry a bag designed for each occasion/outfit appropriate to his activities? It makes no sense.

Yeap, steve jobs wore it in his front pocket jeans. He never ever had a belt clip. Even thinking about it is so comical :D

----------

Steve Jobs wore it in his pocket and if we review Steve's last couple of gadgets, he advertised the pocket use:

Original iPod:

"One thousand songs in your pocket." (2001) used to promote the first generation iPod's large storage

"7,500 songs in your pocket." (2003) used on apple.com.

"10,000 songs in your pocket." (2004) used to market iPod fourth generation.

iPhone:

"The internet in your pocket." (2007)

Pocket use is not random, the product was designed and advertised for pocket use. Steve used it like this. So ever since the original iPhone, pocket use was normal and expected and advertised behavior. With the iPhone 6, the same expectation applies.

In fact I would contend that Steve's obsession with thin iPod/iPhone products is partly due to pocket-ability.

Male users are NOT going to buy a purse, or a man bag. This is ridiculous. Ask android users if they use a man bag. Please.

However, they are not supposed to be responsible for user inflicted damages. Who keeps their phone in the back pocket, seated for almost 18 hours? Not me. Seems almost foolish to me- especially for such a big phone. Still, I'm sure Apple will replace the phone.

Regardless of who Apple thinks is at fault, one of the reasons Apple is such a good company is because they will replace it when there's lack of certainty or a grey area. That's my experience anyway. They'll fix this - it's a serious bummer for them and everyone but one way or another, they'll make sure their customers are taken care of, I think.

The iphone 5 is smaller, thicker and, most importantly, has got straight edges. This will make the 5 much less susceptible to bending compared to the 6.

If there were issues with the 5 bending, the issues with the 6 and especially the 6+ will surely escalate.

The responsibility lies with Apple for not addressing issues encountered with the 5. In fact, they completely ignored it and made it much worse.

I would love to see a poll of male users showing if they'd buy a 5.5" phone if they knew it can't be used in pocket. I would expect such poll to show a vast majority rejecting such phone.

You can put it in your pocket. Just not sitting down. I've never once sat down with any of the phones I've had in my pocket. This is all sizes.

Maybe Apple should have made the phone just a little bit thicker. Three advantages:

- longer lasting battery
- no protruding camera
- it will not bend anymore
- better to grip

I'm "upgrading" from the 4S and I gotta say that as weird as this may sound, I really like the thickness of it because - another weird thing here - I can feel its weight in my pocket (yes POCKET) and it reminds me where I put it! :roll eyes: Now it's another thing if it's in a purse or bag of some sort - then it just add weight to my shoulder which I definitely don't like. I also agree that it's easier to hold.

It's not the same darn phone. Things have to change once you change the size of the phone.

That advise makes sense after reading this thread but, is this recommendation anywhere on Apple's site?

Furthermore, the vast vast majority of content I have found on Google from Android users suggest that they are using big Android phones in their pockets with no bending issues.

So other manufacturers are seemingly designing the phones for pocket use both standing and sitting, and yet you are suggesting Apple only designed it for pocket use only while standing up? Doesn't that sound comical?

If it fits in my pocket, like an LG G3 5.5" would (which doesn't bend), what needs to change? If you had to choose man purse or keep using in pocket, which one would you choose?

Errr... The level to which you are willing to micro-manage your phone is just insane! Or at least obsessional. It's a phone, something that you're supposed to keep close to you so that you can forget about it yet have it just at hand's reach the second you need it.

You're really going to switch your phone from pocket to hand in the 10ms you have to grab the empty seat before someone else does ? And then you're really going to exhibit your iPhone 6+ in your hand ? Well, it won't bend, but I can predict that if you take the subway late and in some neighborhood, you won't have a phone at all to worry about bending or not...
I always use my Nexus 7 in the subway, it's much bigger than an iPhone 6+ and yet it goes in my pockets even when I seat. It's a very cheap tablet, that is known to have a fragile screen and yet I never had any problem. Even built cheap, it's not made of crystal, it's not some kind of fragile jewelry, it's a tool!

Same at the cinema. You're really going to watch a whole movie with a phone in your hand ??? Talk about distracting... Not to mention annoying for others everytime you receive a notification and the screen lights up. As for cup holders, a lot of theater do not have these (it's a cinema, not a restaurant) and they do, it's a great place to have your phone stolen...

As for meetings, yes, I have been in an office environment. In a sane office environment even, I have worked in IT for 20 years. If you let people have their toys on the time, you might as well have a meeting with zombies. So, if you want to have a meeting that is both quick and productive, the rule is that toys stay where they belong: in their owner's pocket.

We all know the pocket thing is ********. it just something to bounce around while we wait for deliveries. :p

They will absolutely give him a new phone. No question about it.

and 99% of the world didnt know and didn't care. move on like when it happened to iPhone 5 and 5S. it will happen with ANY device which is aluminium based if there is forced applied to it

I bought a dozen eggs...

and put them in my pocket. When I got home they were all broken. Darn things... it is ok, they will replace them.

Well geeez.... really... lol. The phone is bigger now, right? I've put my Galaxy Nexus in my pocket without any issues. I don't wear skin tight leather pants from the 80's though :)

If I had a Plus I'd assume I needed a 'man bag' on me at all times.

Wouldn't put that beast in any of my trouser pockets - it'd probably snap. Do yanks all wear big comfort fit jeans to accommodate their heft?

I can't help but wonder if more of Apple's testing had more to do with snapping and cracking and denting. I don't think their phones would easily do any of those - just warping. Would love to know exactly what testing they did (so curious)!

i think you are over reaching the potential of this as a major issue. Anything that is aluminium will bend when force is applied to it. It happened to the 5 and it happened to the 5S and it happens to Sony Phones too which are thin. If you do a google search on the bending iPhones, you will get the same reaction at that time period of those launches as now, people over reacting. I have been a member of macrumors and view the thread numerous times and even I did not know about bent iphones for 5 and 5S until this thread. It is just people assuming that because the phone is thinner it will bend easily when in fact it has to do NOT with the thinness but the construction which is the same as the 5 and 5S and does ANY publication or news outlet have a concern about that since 2 years? None, because it happens to very little amount of people who inadvertently apply a force to their device (especially naked phones) which is more than aluminium (basic physics) can bear. The fact that this is not more than 5% of users (you would hear about it much more) shows this is isolated with a combination of force and construction

Wow, you really think it's that hard to take your phone out of your pocket? Maybe you have short arms or you are missing some fingers. I guess I shouldn't judge without meeting you.

Either way, none of the things you've described are issues for me. I simply pull my phone from my pocket as I sit. It became a habit long ago when I started realizing that my sitting on it could break it. I believe with the 4...perhaps the 3G.

Seriously, it's not a difficult thing to remove your phone from your pocket. Not at all.

Edit: Oh, also being in IT almost 20 years myself, makes me realize that a pocket being bent while I sit is not the best place for delicate electronic devices.

I wonder how many of these guys with phones in their pockets are trying to have babies? Just a thought...

Credit to you for referencing the "pockets" :D

Even so, we shouldn't even be needing to argue that the iPhone 6 Plus was designed for pocket use, of course it was. The argument has got that silly.
