iPhone 6 Plus slightly bent after 2 days

Yes, lightly bumped and no, not Hercules. I can't think of a good comparison to give you a better idea of what kind of force I'm talking about, but it definitely didn't constitute causing that kind of damage.

Did you bump into another person or have a collision? If it was just a simple bump then I'd say you might not want to spend a night in the club or bar with one in your pocket.

It's interesting how many people run to defend Apple. We all love Apple and the products they make but they aren't perfect. When something is off its better to explore it than to defend the corporation. This is the normal cycle of a successful company. They tried to meet demand and some quality will suffer - it's just business. Although they would rather avoid something like this they do replace them without issue.

I googled to see if this was a common thing that was happening and this was the only thread that showed up, I made an account so I could share my experience so far. I'm just telling you what happened, it was a light bump, not even close to the force that should have been required to bend it. I've had significantly harder impacts to my 4s and never had any type of breakage or bending problems.

I agree light bump? Maybe but those must have been some skinny jeans you were wearing. That kind of bent is just crazy. Even then that kind of damage while in a case is not convincing.

Wasn't wearing skinny jeans. I understand the disbelief, you could probably imagine mine when I saw my phone. It's a fairly flexible case though, I'm going to get a hard shelled case just be safe when my replacement arrives.

What I find hard to believe in your case being a new poster in the more than 3 dozen YouTube videos with crash tests with even softer cases, none or them had a dent let alone a bent so I am inclined to believe the light bump was a significant one

I mean even smashed iPhones don't bend and there have been a lot of pictures of chipped and glass broken iPhone 6 where it fell on concrete, none have bended or dented

It's a good thing you shared so others can take precautions against the same thing happening to them. Although it might not be a defect it does appear that this phone is pretty delicate compared to older iPhones and other phones on the market.

I would believe this statement if all the YouTube crash tests said so too where they test durability and none have

Did Apple exchanged a new set for you? Your bent looked really really unbelievable. The drop tests most people had done never mentioned about it being bent. Only dents and scratches.

Yep . There are dozens of iPhone 6 and plus drops on concrete with and without cases and examples of smashed iPhone here at macrumors and I have yet to find one with a dent in the aluminum which points to the anodized aluminum being weak which would result in a bend from a weak collision

First of all thanks for sharing your experience with your new phone, I'm not sure, but is it a 6+ you have there?

I think its time for an idependent company to make some objective structural stress tests to see how fragile the new iphone 6(+) really is, especially compared to the previous iphones and its competitors.

Just to give my subjective opinion. Its now 3 days after release and while there are lots of happy customers out there, I also see a lot stories of
- slippery phone (leading to cracked displays)
- breaking very easy when using little force (see PD13)
- bending phones in pockets
- clicking display glas

These are all issues that might be related to a fragile (very thin) design...

I also want to say, that its very positive that Apple is replacing all phones without questions asked!

Yeah, they said a replacement will come in a couple days and I can come in and exchange them.

Nonsense, 10 MILLION sold and 3 people had this happen to them. There needs to be a Senate committee hearing and needs to be national headline news. This is completely unacceptable.

The forces from being dropped on concrete are different then a force being applied with pressure somewhere in the midsection of the phone. Aluminum can be quite dent resistant, but it can also bend easily when force is applied especially if it doesn't have strong side channels to provide reinforcement.

With that said no one really knows how many pounds of force it takes to actually "bend" one of these phones. I'm sure it could be tested, but without that information it's hard to say if the design is weak or people are being way too rough on the phone.

And more than likely a 6+ would not bend for you either. That said the people I've known with Notes have not generally carried them in their pants pocket.

To think that a device this much bigger and thinner than what people are used to won't require ANY change in handling is kind of astounding really.

I carry my note in my front pants pockets, it will absolutely never bend.....😀

Exactly, I think I probably just caught that one in a million chance that it was sitting just right up against my leg and it was hit at just the right spot to bend it. I loved the 6 for the short time I was able to use it, I'm just going to put a hard shell case on it when I get my replacement

And bent aluminum indicates a weak anodized aluminum, so when a push is made in one direction it bends like normal aluminium and when it hits the grounds its dented like normal aluminium , were any phones aluminium dented by the impacts on the ground ? I don't believe so. If anything the gorilla glass cracked but not a dent in the phones themselves

OUCH!! Not sure if the seriousness of this matter is really clicking with some of you guys. Apple, if they know, must be freaking out.

Phones MUST be durable. I think this is officially the nail in the coffin for me getting the + or the 4.7. 4.7 it is.

The STUPID "phone anorexia" philosophy has to stop. More battery and more rigidity and parts that don't protrude are the way to go.
