Honestly I didn't really care to read this whole thread but it is just VERY nice to browse the forums on my 6+

OP: I think the front pocket is completely fair game, minus leaning over something (couch, table, pool table)

Just an update from an actual 6+ owner, not just a bunch of people bickering about the product who don't actually own it (that's what I'm getting from this thread anyways):

I woke up today at 6:30 AM, left the house to go to school at ~7:00 AM. Went to school from 8:00 AM to 1:30 PM. Then went to work from 2:30 to 6:00 PM. The phone was in my front right pocket virtually all day (with pretty minimal usage... still at 72% right now off the same charge) and absolutely no signs of bending whatsoever. My phone was easily in my pocket for ~9 hours today with no case.

I'm not going to lose sleep over this issue and I have a hard time believing it will be widespread.

You were also sober :sarcasam:

when apple will come with the Apple Watch the iPhone will be needed to provide full functionality. are some saying that it can't be taken to the gym, can't be used for running, biking or skiing ? come on, I did not even think that the iPhone 6 could bend. back to the drawing board.

And bent aluminum indicates a weak anodized aluminum, so when a push is made in one direction it bends like normal aluminium and when it hits the grounds its dented like normal aluminium , were any phones aluminium dented by the impacts on the ground ? I don't believe so. If anything the gorilla glass cracked but not a dent in the phones themselves

Let me try to explain this a different way since you don't seem to understand what I'm saying. If an iPhone is dropped it's weight is the contributing force... 4-5 oz? Now the force will increase with the distance of the drop, but still it's a light object being dropped.

Now if a phone is in your pocket what sort of force is being applied when you sit down or if a person bumps into you? Probably several pounds. Do you not see the difference?

The anodized aluminum might be fine strength wise to handle a drop of it's own weight, but when several pounds of pressure are applied at the ends or midsection who knows the outcome. The sides of the phone must support this pressure. Without someone testing it with force applied at the top and bottom while the center is isolated we don't really know if it's strong or weak.

I'm not sure why you feel so compelled to defend Apple, but if there is an issue I hope it's revealed so they can improve the phone when the next model is released.

Running into a person is not going to cause a phone to fold along one axis like that. The poster CLEARLY ran into a railing, fell against a low concrete wall, or tripped and fell and hit a curb with his thigh. Human beings do not have sharp hard edges that cause objects to bend sharply.

How long before we see someone who crashed into something or leaned over something with their weight on their phone claiming their cat laid in their lap and bent the phone?

This. LOL

Yep . There are dozens of iPhone 6 and plus drops on concrete with and without cases and examples of smashed iPhone here at macrumors and I have yet to find one with a dent in the aluminum which points to the anodized aluminum being weak which would result in a bend from a weak collision

None of those tests were what I call "Sandwich Force Impacts" where the device is in a secure spot and gets hit by moderate speed but heavy inertia force. Drop tests are extremely valid in the case of portable electronics but so are sandwich force impacts when one considers things like a Mac Book Air or now in this case, the thinnest iphone to date.

Please don't rag on this guy too much, he bent his phone, others have bent phones and in a week or two we will have a good idea of how often this might occur and under what circumstances.

Exactly, I think I probably just caught that one in a million chance that it was sitting just right up against my leg and it was hit at just the right spot to bend it. I loved the 6 for the short time I was able to use it, I'm just going to put a hard shell case on it when I get my replacement

Let us know what case you get, I am going to check out the 6 in person on Wednesday and if I decide to pull the trigger I will want the right case right away...

Really? I don't know why everyone assumes I'm hiding something or lying about what happened. I was not drunk as I was the driver that night and I did not lean or run against anything.

I always put my phone vertically in my front pocket with the display facing my thigh and the Lightning port pointing upwards (so the phone is upside down).

It bent in the upper third with the axis being the sim tray. It bent to the outside so that the display is slightly curved. The railing theory would have bent the phone in the other direction so that the back would have been curved.

The phone bent just through the pressure of my thigh (again, it was not crammed in the pocket), and that's something that should not happen.

Yes, this is CLEARLY what happened, you were OBVIOUSLY there when it happened. I'm really curious what you think I have to gain from lying about this?

IMO some people are not objective here - they purchesed the 6 + and therefore it must be good. This does not help and does not make the 6 + better.

I'm curious what Apple will do with this issue.

Is the bend more pronounced on the button side of the phone?

Will do. I'm sure you'll like the 6 a lot. I think the size is perfect and for me it's such a huge upgrade coming from the 4s. It was definitely worth holding out for and not getting the 5s when I was eligible to upgrade.

I shouldn't laugh but that is actually quite funny, Apple's obsession with thinness coming back to bite them. Like i've said before they should have made it a bit thicker and reduced the size of the bezels.

I should have mentioned that before, sorry. It's only bent in the upper left corner. If you looked from the right side of the phone it still looks like it's straight. The whole upper part of the phone isn't bent back like I'm assuming other people are picturing it as. Here's the right side of the phone

They will have to replace each one until they release a disclaimer to advise that it is now no longer advisable to carry a phone in one's pocket...

I got my 6 Plus last Friday. I had it with my all weekend as I was out and about. When I wasn't using it it was in my pocket (walking, sitting, etc).

Flew from Atlanta to Orlando (business) Sunday. Again, when I wasn't using it, was stored in my pocket.

I've had it with me at work this week and treat it exactly like I did my 4S (it's always with me and in my pocket when I'm on the move and not using it). Granted, I'm in an office setting, so not subjecting the phone to extreme physical stress.

I've had in in my pocket while driving, but typically I don't do this. I mean, how are you going to drive and text at the same time with a phone in your pocket #

I use an Apple Leather cover and no problems with bending (yet). I think as long as you are somewhat careful you'll be okay and won't have any issues with bending.

I'm sure if I put it in my pocket in such a way that one end of the phone sat on my hip bone and the other on the top of my thigh...and then sat down....I could bend it or even snap it. So, I am "aware" of it more than I was my 4S (which was a tough little phone). It's some what similar to being aware of the crown on a good watch (so you don't bang it into walls, etc...).

I figured...

IFixit has posted tear downs of the phones and it clearly shows no bolstering of the button areas and not even partial sparring or trussing of the backplane.

I have a feeling that in order to avoid bending these phones, some of the more active folks are going to have to get really stiff cases, especially for the 6 plus.

I have eagerly upgraded my phone every two years without fail....until I saw this one. The build design really concerned me, I am exceptionally active in my line of work, lots of climbing, trail running and skiing, I can see bending if not breaking one of these pretty easily unless it has a bomber case.

I wouldnt have noticed if it wasn't for this thread, but I put ruler to the screen of my 6+ and found a very very slight concave. I'm guessing it's within Apple's manufacturing tolerance.

I'm a little bummed l, but I know nothing's perfect. As long as it can withstand a resonable amount of daily abuse, I'm ok with it. I can't recall any other brand of phone undergoing this much scrutiny.

When the 5 came out, there were a few threads like this as well claiming it bent easily. I am sure the PLUS is more susceptible to bending, but this might be over blown.

Hopefully, that is why I have been saying wait a week or two to get a better idea as more phones go through daily routines.

One reason why I carry my plus in my shirt pocket. Shirt pockets are 5 inches deep, and the Plus is 6.22 inches long. So yes it sticks out by 1.25 inches, but sure beats bending.

3 people claim to have bent phones out of 10 MILLION and you think that's a legit problem?

No it's not just what I've seen on this thread. As I've said before (not that I'd expect anyone to remember amidst all the posts here!) I warped my son's iPod touch and have seen first hand how ridiculously easy it is to do (was in a fanny pack on an airplane ride - or maybe it was during the walking around in airports as I can't imagine I'd be comfortable wearing it on a plane - and no there was nothing particularly unusual or tight about it). And his iPod touch was thicker than these new phones. When/if it happens to you - combined with reading these comments here and elsewhere on the web - you'll feel it's more of a legit problem too, I promise. :p

Does it really matter how you feel? Apple sells you an 850$ base model 6s then you need applecare(99$), and an otter box (70$). Apple has had years to make a large screen phone, Samsung is already on the note 5 and has had large before that.

I kept hearing 4" is all people need. then once it looked like apple was going for giant phones the new line was apple waited so long because they wanted to do it right.
Now that its a turd, you will buy a case to cover it up!!

If you are really an apple fan, don't buy an iPhone that bends easy. Hurt their bottom line for a quarter or 2 and then you will see great products again.

Fair enough, lol.
