None of this would be an issue if they had used steel instead of switching to cheap, garbage aluminum to impress the uneducated. That was the main reason I skipped the entire 5th generation. Well, that, and the lack of anything over 64gb of storage. I still plan on getting a 6 plus, but I also always use an otterbox.
Fragility in a daily-use item is a problem. It obviously isn't a show-stopper, and like I said I'll be picking one up later today or tomorrow, but it does have me concerned.
I've always thought the "thin phone" craze was foolish as the 4s was perfectly thin enough, and I also thought switching to aluminum was a poor decision. Looks like I was correct, if a bit grumpy and crotchety.
Hopefully, future versions will either switch back to steel, use an actual aluminum alloy instead of going the cheap route, or find another material which is altogether more durable, such as carbon fiber with a rigid frame or some kind of polymer. If Glock can make a polymer-framed pistol I can sit on 12 hours a day, 6 days a week for $450 then apple should be able to make an iphone capable of resting in my front pocket for $900.
Apple has a history of making very good devices and I have been a loyal customer of theirs for years, but if fragility becomes the norm they will lose me as a customer... unless otterbox can continue to pick up their slack.
