iPhone 6 Plus too big?

Still have no idea which to get.... Was originally getting 6 plus but I'm worried about it being too big. First world problems...

Exactly! My wife is getting the 5.5. So she can see better?

Most guys have nowhere to put the 5.5 inch Plus. I held the new note and it is massive.

No I am not going to carry around a man purse. No way.
What kind of pants are you wearing? I can fit an ipad mini in the pocket of my cargo shorts, not the cargo pocket, my front pocket and have put my note in my jeans pocket without issue. I wear old navy cargos and jeans. I'm 74.5" and about 220

It seems they would have tested it in pockets before they released it. So maybe it's not that big. My guy friend is 6"4 has a Galaxy S5 which I think is fatter. It fits in his pockets.
I 3D printed a mockup & the 5.5 fits neatly in my jeans pocket, however the deal breaker was when either running up the stairs or kneeling down, the top of the phone dug into the top of my leg/waist crease (if you get what I mean). Because of this I'm going for the 4.7".

Love the Plus
If You Spend more time staring at your phone then talking on it go for the Plus

For Me 5.5 wont fit in a shirt pocket or arm band.
Cardboard mockup was also a little too big for the gym.
Binds & Bends in my pants pockets doing any sort of bending at work

SO as much as I like it I'm going with the 4.7 screen

I'm of the opinion that the 6 Plus is an iPad for all intents and purposes. Just watch. There's going to be a rush of apps that were iPad only moving to the Plus in the coming few months.

Great insight. I also have a similar suspicion, and this is the main reason I'm leaning towards the iPhone 6 plus.

I'm old, I guess. I remember, long ago, friends of mine carrying their Newtons around with them everywhere. I was SO jealous. But I was too young and broke to afford one back then.

Anyway, point being, a Newton is a MONSTER compared to the 6 Plus and the two guys and one girl who I knew who owned one carried them everywhere with nary a peep about it being too big.

Sure, another time. But it's funny how expectations change. Personally? As I've said before, having printed and played with my own mockup/template, I don't consider the 6 Plus too big. I want that fat battery. That said, I can see the hesitation.

Warning: run-on sentence ahead.

I just think there's something amazing about seeing the world evolve from a place where phones were huge plastic boxes that were attached to the wall with a wire and computers were the whole floor of a city block and only NASA and the IRS had them to today where we're debating whether a SIX OUNCE computer that's about 70mm thick, no bigger than a checkbook, can process MILLIONS of times more data than those old machines, is a still and video camera, a photo editor, a phone, a text messager, a Web browser, a motion sensor, a game system, includes a built in monitor, a rechargable battery that will power it all day and a high definition screen... is too big to fit in our pockets when we bend over to tie our shoes.

If you took one of these things back even 20 years it would blow minds beyond belief. Now you can buy the best one they make for $500 with voice/data service for two years.

itjw-Thank you for your brutal honesty. You shared some exact thoughts I was running in my mind, and answered questions that were making me try to decide what phone was better. Keep up with the honesty-loving it.

I thought iPhone 6 plus all day until i printed the mock up phones and tested it with my every day attires, and realized that the 6 plus will actually not fit in over 50% of my clothes! I ride horses competitively, and able to wear casual clothes at work-no way I would ever be able to keep my phone on my at all times. It's just to big. iPhone 6 it is.

If you take two checkbooks and place them on top of each other, you will pretty much have the size of the iP6+.

So for those that remember the distant father of the iPhone... a bit more perspective on the sizing dilemma:

I want the 5.5 Plus for the battery, landscape apps and springboard, better camera, etc. but worry about the pocket fit and size issues of using it one-handed like many do. Is it too big.

I have a iPad Mini Retina w/ Celluar and a Logitech Ultrathin keyboard that attaches like an iPhone cover magnetically. The truth is I love the size of my Mini and the portability, but I rarely use it. I spend my time if I can on my 27" iMac and at work on a 13" MacBook Air. But I use my phone the most of all, unless I can be at the iMac. Nothing beats a trackpad, a real (elevated not notebook) keyboard, and all that screen real estate.

But I run the power out on my iP5 constantly because it gets so much use. So everything tells me I want the Plus features, the battery most of all. But I want it to feel like the regular 6 in my pocket and my hand.

Until I read this thread, I hadn't even thought about a collared shirt pocket, but the truth is I don't think a 6 fits in there any better than a 6 Plus. They both will stick out. I also only use BT in the car, and for my stereo headphones, but if I am not on a car call, I tend to use my phone handheld or with the earbuds. I'm not thrilled about the idea of holding my Plus to my face, but with Yosemite coming, I know that I can call from my iMac. Maybe a Plus would get me out there buying a BT earpiece. But that's another thing to research, buy and charge all the time, and hopefully not lose.

I don't want the 5.5" Plus to be so great but so cumbersome that I'm taking out of my pockets and putting on a desk or counter whenever I can but then having to retrieve it.

You know what? I have monitored my 5s usage and I'll tell you what makes me most nervous.

Safari address bar, sure, but SCRUBBING! Music, movies, porn, you name it. My thumb can't reach and the "reachability hack" I call it a hack because it leaves half the real estate black and would completely hide the video for scrubbing to a part. I skip around through all videos.

This actually really helped me. Noticed the checkbooks were similar size to the template. Confirmed that I want the 6 plus. Nice tip!

I don't think that video watching should be an issue. I watch all, all, all video in landscape and have no problem using two hands for it. The truth is Apple is the only phablet phone out there that I have heard of with a solution for reaching the outer regions on these large screens. For me it is holding the behemoth for calls (and not wanting to look like an idiot doing so) and the carrying it in pockets. I would say the one-handed reaching is third on my list of cons.

If you have mockups, go stand in front of the mirror.

Hold the iPhone you have, probably a 4" 5 or 5S, like you are on a call.

Then hold the two mockups, the 6 and 6 Plus.

Tell us what how you see yourself talking on the phone with the 6 Plus.

I kid you not, I JUST did that a few hours ago. I'm grabbing a 4.7.

I keep going back and forth, but I think I've decided on the 4.7.

I have an iPad mini. I love my iPad mini and it goes with my everywhere I might actually be doing any sort of browsing. I also have unlimited data on my iPad mini. I've used 34.8 gb in the current period.

5.5 seems cool, but concerns about size, comfort to use and in pocket...the only reason I can justify it is wanting the "biggest and best." Keeping up with the joneses.

I will say this though -- if I lost my unlimited ipad data, I'd almost certainly go with the 5.5 and just drop a tablet data plan altogether.

iPhone 6 Plus too big?

I expect so many returns and exchanges in the first few weeks due to people not knowing what they want.

No doubt about that. And that goes for both models and not just the 5.5.

Same here! Did it yesterday. Looked like I was holding a brick against my face.

the article fails to mentions that for the majority of 5+ inch users they also thought it was big and now if they go back to 4.7 it feels too small. I think the author has never actually used a 5+ inch phone to say its really big. yes its really big but its comfortable when you start using it. your view conforms to it when you view it.

I thought about that, but even with my 5S, 95% of the time I'm not using it for calls. I also usually either use earbuds for making calls, or my car's bluetooth. For the rest I'm not concerned if it looks a little goofy.

Being longer, it actually seems more natural anyway since the microphone is closer to your mouth.

I got the 6+, I borrowed my gf sisters note 3 and compared it to the print out of the 6 it wasn't that much of a difference, but I can understand that some people like to text using one hand but, I usually text with two thumbs ( way faster for me), so the size wouldn't matter....also I use my headset for calls...
