It looks to me like the T-Mobile one will be available on the Apple store website, but not the Apple store app. The T-Mobile phone doesn't appear on the app right now if you go in and look, only the 3 other carriers. But it does appear as a box you can click on the main website. I don't know if it's worth it to try and get it on the other vendors websites though, such as T-Mobile.com and Best Buy. There is very little info on how they will handle theirs.

Pre-Order question

Can you order one without a contract via pre-order? If so what's the best way to do this? It needs to work on ATT and I'd like to just put my existing simcard in. Would that just work or would the IMEI of the phone have to be programmed in?

What a frustrating experience this is going to be. I pre-ordered once before and it was 4 hours of reloading the website. Once you finally get it to load you get 1/2 way through the ordering process and it won't load.

I'm going to try ordering through Apple and AT&T. I'm paying full price so if I can get through to Apple I have to get the T-Mobile phone and hope it's not locked. Worst case scenario I'll head over to the AT&T early next Friday morning.

That's two Fridays with little to no sleep though. Ugh.

From past experience, the T-Mobile version sold on Apple's website or any non-Sprint phone sold at full price in the store will be unlocked, despite what the website or Apple reps may tell you. The T-Mobile phone purchased from T-Mobile directly is locked, and they won't unlock it unless you've had their service for 40 days.

The best bet is to order the T-Mobile contract-free version from the web site. However, that was the first to sell out last year when online sales began. I wound up buying a Verizon model for full price in the store. Unfortunately, you can't get contract-free AT&T or Verizon versions online.

Haha! Oh yes! Thickness wise it's well over twice as thick. My thinking was - if I can ride / walk / sit about with THIS lump in my pocket, then that skinny phone should be fine.

The outcome was that it's actually fine! I was quite surprised. The biggest deal is that the top of the phone will be right up at the mouth of most pockets. Just gotta be a bit more one the ball in situations where pick-pockets are about I guess.

Still, it told me enough that I reckon I'll give phablet territory a crack...

I've found that while on the John . . . . . . . . you know.

I go to pull up my pants and the Note tends to slip out due to the weight.

I wear loose pant though, and it often falls out if i don't take it out first. Only once has it ever almost came close to falling in.

That's what I noticed, as well. Also, if you attempt to order from the Apple Store app on an existing iPhone, it defaults to your carrier.

I camped out in front of my Mac at home for 3 days to beat the rest of my family. Now I'll be the first to pre-order, while the relatives lined up in back of me will just have to wait!

Good call.

That is what happen in previous releases. Is Verizon also unlocked? How does it work? Traveling from UK to NYC the 19th for business and pleasure, so I thought that I can pre-book one tonight and walk over to the flagship and pick it up the 19th or 20th.

Yes, the Verizon model is unlocked. All of their LTE phones are unlocked per an agreement with the FCC, even the on-contract versions. You may not be able to prepurchase a phone without a US credit card, though. And they'll mail it to a US address, not to a store for pickup. However, you may get lucky and find one in the store on Friday or Saturday. Just avoid 5th Avenue or the Upper West Side. Grand Central is a good bet since it is never as crowded as the other locations.

If you do find it in an Apple Store, as long as you pay full price you can buy the AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile versions and it will be unlocked (I've done that 3 years in a row). They don't sell the official SIM-free version until a few weeks after launch. That gives the carriers a chance to meet their sales quotas.

WTF ** how can you put pre-order out with 2 different sizes and have NONE at the store for customers to test out until the release date.

this isn't revolutionary, it's stupid!!!

Setting several alarms. I hope that I don't sleep through them. I may have to stay up to 2:00 am CST. The strategizing makes my head hurt.

If you get in early enough it should ARRIVE on 9/19. From what I've heard you have to be present to sign for it, they won't leave it.

I pre-ordered for the iPhone 5. FedEx pretty much threw it at the door and ran :)

And we all remember this, right?

Glad I live in the PST time zone :)

They never have devices in store ahead of time...

No.

The midnight mentioned is Cupertino time (PST).

Midnight in Cupertino is 8am in the UK (or 2am where I am currently in Jamaica!).

The iPhone 5S was available for pre-order at midnight UK time. (= 1 am in Germany). Sure that it is different this time?
