haha! it has been really rocky in the past, but I think they are ready for this one. Apple has been touting this as their highest selling product ever, I think they are preparing for a big rush

Yes but they failed so hard with the keynote... But maybe it will be rock solid, now. My bet for the Christmas quarter: More than 60 million iPhones.

That's what she said

I'd have to agree. I know so many Android users that have said the only reason they don't have an iPhone is the small screen. This will no doubt be the hottest iPhone to date.

That's exactly why I own a Galaxy S4. I've been waiting for this, as I imagine many Android users have…..

I bought T-Mobile 5S last year on launch day and I paid full price, it was unlocked. I am assuming it is the same this year!

But do you need to be a US resident to buy that version? Do they require some american credit card and US billing address just because it comes with T-Mobile sim?

Does Apple allow preorders to shipped to an Apple Store for pickup?

If so, does anyone have experience with this? Is pickup on 9/19?

I ask because I'm also grandfathered into AT&T unlimited data through my family's plan ON THE OPPOSITE COAST. Just trying to get a feel for my options. Thanks!

Are you authorized to make upgrades on the ATT account. Cause in the past you had to be to pick up an iPhone order, as well as being put down as an authorized pickup on the order. Make sure you are now (whoever is the account holder has to call ATT and have you added) to avoid issues.

Well then maybe I will do my best to look around in NYC central the 19th or the 20th for an unlocked version or that is maybe just a waste of time. If you check the us website for the 5s, there are a unlocked option but not for the 6.

It's likely to be the same in stores for at least that first weekend. Otherwise the resellers will try to get all the unlocked device only phones

Buy the T-Mobile version, with no contract. That is unlocked.

You will just toss the T-mobile SIM, and put in the SIM of your choice. Keep in mind that if you have an iPhone 4S or earlier, it's a different SIM and you will have to get another one.

I believe the story is the T-Mobile phones are locked and you have to be a T-Mobile customer to unlock them.

I'm not planning to order tonight, but I don't want to wait MONTHS to be able to get an unlocked phone. I heard that was the case with the 5S.

Wonder i can pre order one iPhone 6 and one iPhone Plus ? I am eligibility for upgrade AT&T . I am not sure which one to get yet. If so i will not open the box first when it ship next week, then run to Apple stores to check it out the phone in person see which one I like best .

Not on the same line. Just wait until they are in stores. Trust me getting an iPhone preordered isn't likely to get you laid or any other major bonus in life. It is after all just a phone

That was the rumor last year. The truth was that phones ordered from Apple were unlocked. However, phones ordered from T-Mobile were locked. In the store, any full priced phone not a Sprint model was unlocked. If you buy it from Apple, only the Sprint and subsidized AT&T phones are locked. The issue is that online the only non-contract phone they sell is the "T-Mobile" one, at least for the first few weeks. So that one sells out quickly.

I contacted apple today about this very question- I was told the T-Mo one was locked to that carrier. Why even try through Apple and not just directly with AT&T?

In another thread people are being told different things about whether or not it's locked. If you buy from a T-Mobile store it IS locked and you have to have T-Mobile service for 40 days. In the past, T-Mobile phones from Apple have been unlocked. Whether or not that will be the case this time no one knows for sure.

I will also try to pre-order from AT&T, just kind of depends on which site I can get through on first. Hopefully AT&T.

True, but only if you buy it from Apple. If you buy it from T-Mobile it will be locked.

I called Apple Store in NYC and they said there won't be any in store pickups for pre orders.

Asking for some info from New Yorkers.

Thinking of travelling to NYC around October 3rd. Do you think I'll be able to find stock in the retail stores then? It'll be 2 weeks after the launch so you think they'll have adequate stock of the phone? Or would it make sense for me to preorder the phone to some friend who lives in NYC to make sure?

From past experiences, no. But here's what you can do.

Apple retail stores here in NYC get some iPhones every single day. If you go early enough to any of the stores and wait for them to open you can get one any day of those two weeks you are here.

Just like they were ready for the live broadcast of the unveil? I'm not holding my breath. Especially with all of the rumors about the 6+ being delayed. I have a feeling the quantities of that phone (which is the one I want, space grey, 128GB) are going to be extremely limited, kind of like the gold phone before.

Can you request in-store pickup for a preorder?

I was told by an Apple rep today via chat that there will be a certain number of phones available for this option. I've never pre-ordered before, but apparently it's one of the first options you'll see.

Yes, but it depends on when they will release the unlocked version.

Just get any full priced version except for Sprint if you can find it in a store. They will be unlocked, regardless of what the rep says. They don't sell the SIM-free model here until a few weeks after launch. But all Verizon models are unlocked, and if you pay full price at Apple, so are the AT&T and T-Mobile versions. Last year on launch Saturday I went to my local Apple Store and asked what they had for sale "device only, contract free." That's the code for "unlocked" provided it isn't a Sprint model (they refuse to unlock their phones at all except for customers, and only for non-US SIMs). Don't ask for an "unlocked" model because the reps will just say they don't have them yet.

Yes and no. They must let you buy a contract free for tmobile as that carrier has no contracts. And unless Verizon changes the rules they must allow full price Verizon for grandfather unlimited data. To bar those at launch would be a huge PR cock up.

But full price, no line activation phones are generally not allowed the first few days to try to stymie the resellers.

Online, the Verizon route works only if you have an account. You can select the grandfather option later. But the only full-priced versions they sell outright at first are the "T-Mobile" ones.

----------

No. It just ships with a SIM.

If you want to buy one, you are usually OK on launch weekend. After that they have sometimes put in a reservation system. But not always.

So you say that I will try my best to walk there on the 19th or 20th and ask them for a T-mobile and directly unlock the phone, because I am non-us. Buy one tonight and think that i will have it delivered by the 19th and then be able to unlock it will not be any solution?

So why the heck aren't they selling the sim-free versions from the start this time?

With carriers moving away from contracts and subsidies, you'd they'd be selling them alongside the others.

First time preordering. Will there be a in-store pickup option? If so how will that work, do I just walk into an apple store on the 19th and pick it up? No lining up?

WTF ** how can you put pre-order out with 2 different sizes and have NONE at the store for customers to test out until the release date.

this isn't revolutionary, it's stupid!!!

English must not be your native tongue. the entire point of a "pre-order" is you're ordering before the item is on the market. thus, "pre"...

if you are on the fence, then you are a better candidate to wait until it's out and you can inspect it.

so if i have the t-mobile $30 pre paid plan and want to buy a iPhone that can be used on tmobile or atat, there is no way i can pre order at full price?

You probably won't be able to pre-order without a card tied to a US address. That's to prevent fraud. However, your best bet is to try your luck at an Apple Store next weekend. They get shipments throughout the weekend. I got lucky 2 years ago and showed up 5 minutes before a shipment arrived. There was no line. Last year there appeared to be more phones available as there were no presales. You can get the Verizon, T-Mobile, or AT&T version from Apple. If you pay full price it will be unlocked out of box. You don't need to anything to unlock it. If a Verizon store will sell you one for full price it will also be unlocked.
