Wearables my friend . Keep that big old phone in your pocket. I love my pebble steel.

Yeah I figure two or three years is plenty of time for innovation in that segment. If phones trend in an undesirable direction maybe a cheap awful phone and some sort of fancy iWatch will become the new move. Tough to speculate on what Apple will release this year never mind over several years.

Get a bigger pocket.

To each their own, I would say. The proof will be in the sales come fall.

Apple will shoot themselves in the foot if a 4" option is not in the mix considering how small iPhones have sold in the past, even the 5C! :D

Agreed. No way they are ditching the 4" anytime soon.

Apple has plenty of time left to innovate something magical for us to salivate over. They are only now leveling out on their Revenue.

Apple will NEVER launch a 5inch or bigger smartphone. That would be far too big to deliver the experience Apple wants to give its customers. Anyone expecting this is going to be disappointed when iPhone 6 launches to the world.

Comments like this drive crazy. A few years ago people were claiming Apple would NEVER release a phone with a screen larger than 3.5" ... and then reality set in, and market demand spoke. People want larger phones, and limiting consumer option doesn't make any sense. How the hell would a larger screen ruin the Apple experience? There isn't one logical answer to that question. People have different hand sizes, eye issues. Some business people would welcome the larger screen for on-the-go work but don't have the space to carry a second large device (iPad Mini). A large screen phone is a great "all-in-one" device.

A phone larger than 4.7" will come, if it's not this launch, then next one. Apple seems to lag behind literally every other phone maker in screen size (and most other features these days) so worst case we'll have a screen larger than 4.7" by 2016.

Heh, i basically posted the same thing a few pages back. Couldn't agree with you more.

A larger iPhone doesn't appeal to me, but I may be in the minority.

I like a phone that fits in my pocket, but I can see the appeal to those who want one device that does it all, and is used as much a computer as a phone.

Does anyone think there is a market for a combo iPad/iPhone? How big is too big?
The thing that finally put me off the HTC One and onto the iPhone was the size in the hand. The 4.7" I could just live with since mainly it's just longer, but the 5.5" just looks tot wide.

No Kidding?

NO! As early as September!!!!???? WOW! WHAT NEWS!

Sorry. Just have to poke fun. New iPhone in September... just like the last one... and the one before that... and (i think) even the one before that...

WOW!

Agreed, how many said they would NEVER make an iPad Mini, it would destroy the experience, right, that was a fail

Apple needs to spend a little of their BILLIONS and make both form factor iPhones. small screen for the eagle-eyed skinny jeans pocket types and larger screen version for those who need a bigger screen and use headset technology. They will just sell more, no down side.

So my question is; Are those mock up photos actually "to scale" or not?

I have always thought that, "Yeah ok, I guess I could maybe get on board with a bump up to 4.7 screen". But looking at that picture; I just don't know. I figured the result would be a larger screen, but with only an almost imperceptible increase in foot-print size.
If the overall device is as large as is shown in that picture, I just don't see how I can handle that. (tiny pun)

As for the 'mega-phone'; forget it. That thing is like calling a machete a knife.

4.7in? maybe. Probably, even.

5.5in? No way.

It's possible. They know they get hit in the marketplace on screen size now, so they make some kind of 450+ PPI new "standard" resolution in the 4.7 inch phone (that requires reworking apps) and a 5.5 inch version in the same resolution (but with lower PPI obviously, think high 300's) that can use the same reworked apps with no modification. Then Apple says "choose which one you want."

No. No more so than you walk around holding a laptop or iPad today.

The point is, most of the time, you won't need to carry it around at all. Other, more portable, devices will do everything your phone does today and more.

I don't think either the glasses nor the watch will have 4" screens, so I find the likelihood of me browsing the web on either to be very low.

I really hope they don't add bigger sizes without at least keeping the smaller ones around, the 4" screen that they have now is already pushing it for being too big.

I hope to see a 5 inch screen display no less or no more...

but that's just me.

IOS 8, faster processor, better battery life. and some other tweaks.

Thanks

Have there been any predictions of "split screen" multi-tasking? It'd seem that using two programs at once is inevitable, between the lighter/flatter OS and larger phone screens and predictions of a resolution jump; I know there are many times when I'm jumping programs to complete tasks or staying in a FaceTime call when I'd like to access another app, but without alarming the other person. IMHO, it will be a waste to make the phone larger just to make everything bigger.

Ugh. The 4" Screen on the 5 already sticks out of my pocket. The phone doesn't need to be any bigger. Everyone with big phones already looks like a ridiculous 80's banker, it doesn't need to get any worse.

You r right. I have the same feeling about it.

What Im saying ... Apple, do whatever you want but keep the 4inch for normal people. I will never buy 5inch or bigger, because I have an iPad.

This. This. This.

Apple missed the boat on the large device trend. Luckily, they have the resources to call the boat back and jump on before it's too late. To say that they'll never make a 5 inch phone because it ruins in the experience is just drinking way too much of the kool aid.

The closer they get to iPad mini size the less likely they are to actually produce it. They know there'd be no reason to offer a 6" phone and an 7.8" tablet, it's been a reason for other products evolution as well i.e. MacBook Air. Realistically, I see them continuing to offer the 5s and 5c and introducing a new 4" phone and a larger screened 5"-5 1/2" version. Apple doesn't need the biggest screen on the market because they'll make sure it's the BEST screen on the market. If they want to really win against Samsung and beat the Note 3? Do the stylus better. Samsung has done brilliantly with the s-pen and the interface is great, so Apple, do it better, I know you can.
Why?
It's more convenient to carry one All-in-One device that can satisfy the user then carry multiple devices.
