I would question the masculinity of those who want a smaller size.

4 inches is, after all, nothing to brag about.

That's weird because I would question the masculinity of those who want a larger size.

It would appear to me they are trying to overcompensate for something.

Can you see the pixels now then? If you can't see the pixels what is the benefit of having more? The larger file sizes? The slower operation and shorter battery life due to the processor working harder?

People get too hung up on specs and not enough on using brain.

Bragging about retina display has lost its luster.
We need some other innovation to show non-Apple loyalists what they are missing technically on their devices.

The funny thing about this thread, and all the ones before it around this issue, is that people are arguing over having a choice. Why would you want to let a corporation decide for you what's best? Everyone is different. Some want small, some want big, some want somewhere in between. What's so wrong with letting people have a 5.5" phone if they want it? I don't understand how a lack of choice in something, no matter what it is, makes a better option.

No one wanted a "colored" iPhone, right? That gold version was pretty tough to find until they ramped up production because the demand was larger than expected...

You can't "think different" if everyone has the same thing.

I thought this cliche only applied to lifted trucks, fast sports cars, etc.

I can't wait to land a larger iPhone. The display will be beautiful. Any minor inconvenience regarding size will fade within 1 week. After that, going back to a small phone like my 4S will seem silly.

Shouldn't you question the masculinity of people who need a bigger size phone to brag about? I know you were joking btw, at least I hope you were...

Not gonna happen. Apple have to move on with the times, a 4-inch screen is too small nowadays. I have small hands and I want a bigger screen. 4.7 and 5.5 is will be.

I doubt that very much. It really doesn't hurt Apple to have a few different options. 4" is still very desirable to a huge percentage of the marketplace.

Apple will shoot themselves in the foot if a 4" option is not in the mix considering how small iPhones have sold in the past, even the 5C! :D

It's not bragging, you're completely missing the point - more pixels is hardly innovation. If you can't see the pixels why do you need more? That is the point. What do you gain? It's completely unnecessary and only hampers the phone more. I'm not speaking as a fanboy, just practically.

Calling it now: iPhone 6 4.7-inch this September then iPhone 6s 5.5-inch next year.

I seriously doubt a design change at that stage. Haven't the hardware changes ALWAYS been on a single digit model and not on a C or S model? Just something to think about.

If the "many people" are people here (who have bashed for years about anything bigger than 3.5" until Apple rolled out (and thus blessed) 4" as the (now) perfect size-), as soon as Apple rolls out a >4" phone and bless it as the new perfect, these people will almost all fall right in line: "shut up and take my money", "how did we ever get by with those puny screens?", "I'm already in line", etc.

The "many people" here want whatever they think Apple wants them to want. I think Apple could roll out a 10" phone and this crowd would go head over heels: "who needs pants anyway?", "my phone is bigger than your phone", "can't wait for the 12" pro model", and so on. Right now, it's just split because most want to hedge their stances (too many rumors pointing toward 4" no longer being "perfect" so we bash bigger screens less and sling phrases like "wait & see").

If Apple rolls out a bigger screen in either size, lots of the remaining bashers will flip overnight to "I'm already in line", "once I actually got to see one…" and so on. Shortly, thereafter, we'll be bashing other company phones with smaller (including 3.5" and 4" screens) and larger screens than the new (third and maybe fourth incarnation) of "perfect" so sayeth the Apple.;)

I've seen plenty of larger-screen smartphones. They're too big for my use case. I don't blame people who want them, I can imagine plenty of good reasons to have one, I just don't need one. I know a LOT of people (people I know in person) who agree with me -- they've seen bigger phones, most of them are serious techies (most of my friends, and I, are int he media technology business -- we know this stuff very well).

Again, I'm not saying nobody wants a larger phone. I see a good use case for 4.5 or 4.7 and maybe even 5.5. But I also like 4 -- it fits in my pocket, anything too much larger won't really fit in my pocket comfortably. I frankly think most customers, say 30-40%, would choose 4", another 30-40% would take 4.5 or 4.7, and the rest, maybe 10-20% would take 5.5".

New era Apple.

Phablets are the 'new cool thing' in the same way the iPhone used to be the 'new cool thing'.

Apple, since becoming a consumer widget brand, now has to follow, not just create, fads whether it wants to or not. Smaller tablets saw Android finally start to shift units in that sector so Apple made the Mini.

So glad I bought the 5s. Apple making a hilariously awful largephone is just as dumb as when Samsung does it.

Hopefully they continue to offer upgrades in the 5s form factor as it's right on the edge of what I can use comfortably in one hand. Any bigger is too big. Would rather see them maintain the 5s screen size with a bezel reduction to make those moments when you stretch to the top/across with your thumb a little more comfortable.

So if they drop 4" and go higher - I assume you'll use the 5S until it's on its last leg. And then what?

The closer they get to iPad mini size the less likely they are to actually produce it. They know there'd be no reason to offer a 6" phone and an 7.8" tablet, it's been a reason for other products evolution as well i.e. MacBook Air. Realistically, I see them continuing to offer the 5s and 5c and introducing a new 4" phone and a larger screened 5"-5 1/2" version. Apple doesn't need the biggest screen on the market because they'll make sure it's the BEST screen on the market. If they want to really win against Samsung and beat the Note 3? Do the stylus better. Samsung has done brilliantly with the s-pen and the interface is great, so Apple, do it better, I know you can.

We have a winner! Time for chicken dinner.

Two different sizes would really surprise me.

4.7" phone

[+ 0.8"]

5.5" phone

[+ 2.4"]

7.9" tablet

[+1.8"]

9.7" tablet

A whole new product line for just an extra .8" of screen real estate??

"This iPhone 6 4.7" would be so awesome if only I had a .8" bigger screen"

If they only extend it vertically - I would agree. I would hope they would increase both width and length. There's considerable more real estate to be had.

See what's available in 2016/2017? I'm happy with my iPhone and iPad, but if Apple fails to release a decent product for three years I'll look elsewhere.

Presumably the phone size fetish can't last forever or everyone will be forced to wear oversized jorts to carry their jumbophones.

Wearables my friend . Keep that big old phone in your pocket. I love my pebble steel.
