I can understand the 23.2GB of music, but do you really need to keep 24.6GB of photos on your phone? That must be several thousand pictures. Why not store them on your computer or portable hard drive?

Or use a cloud storage that has automatic photo sync like Onedrive or Dropbox.

Of course they can use it how they like, but some people don't use them properly.

Using your phone as a permanent storage solution is just daft.

I think an iPhone could be used without relying on any other device or cloud to store content, especially when you see the price apple sell internal memory storage for their phones!

Love how some of you are freaking out about an iPhone costing $1000+ when most of you live in a country with a minimum wage of $8+.
Where I live (Hungary) minimal wage is $2.5, and still the 16GB iPhone 5S costs around $980. That is the ridicule, not the $1000 for Americans.

Furthermore, if you'd have read the article, it doesn't say a word about the price in the USA, it's talking about the price in China where the phone also costs more than in the US.

It's a global good, easily transported, so the price is going to be about the same world-wide. Americans may pay a slightly lower price due to economies of scale, regulations, lower taxes, etc. It's not like housing, where prices are tied to a locale; I'll bet housing costs a lot less where you live for comparable quality and desirability.

Apple will look to launch the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 on Friday, September 19, according to a new report from Chinese web portal Tencent (Google Translate, via GforGames) citing inside sources. The news comes after German carrier Deutsche Telekom was reported to be informing customers of a similar release date for the device.

The report also notes that Apple will launch 32GB and 64GB capacities of the phone for 5,288 yuan ($846) and 6,288 yuan ($1008), indicating that Apple may launch the iPhone 6 without a 16GB model. Notably, 5,288 yuan is the current price for the 16GB iPhone 5s in China, while the 32GB iPhone 5s is listed at 6,088 yuan.

A September launch would be consistent with the past two iPhone launches, as Apple also typically launches new products on a Friday. A report from Bloomberg earlier this week also claimed that Apple may launch the larger 5.5-inch version of the iPhone 6 and the 4.7-inch version simultaneously, with previous reports indicating that issues with battery and display technology would hold up the larger device's launch.

In addition to a larger display, the iPhone 6 is expected to feature a thinner design, a faster A8 processor, and more. The iPhone 6 is also expected to feature an improved camera, with the larger 5.5-inch version exclusively utilizing optical image stabilization and the smaller device featuring an advanced lens module.

It'll probably be the same failure here in Switzerland as the iPhone 5S because Apple likely won't have it ready until December here again.

Apple had almost 80% market share in Switzerland until the launch of the 5S, then they were taken over by Google within only half a year. People were quite angry about the delayed launch. Now Apple's at about 45%.

Still a bit stingy though...

Its funny I first had a iPhone 3G with 8Gb and I thought how could I ever need more.
Then I got a iPhone 4S 16Gb and I thought the same thing, but at some point my iPhone was full all the time.
Had the something with iPhone 5 16GB.
So going to 32GB is very nice.

With cheap memory cards available for Android users to switch in at a whim, Apple makes us pay a premium for a pitifully small memory, and we are so grateful. Thanks Apple!

Not strictly true as telecomm specs vary so the iPhone isn't totally transportable

I registered just to ask this:

Why do you need a mobile phone with 128GB of space? I got 16GB and im not getting over 12GB in total.
2-3GB Spotify, then tons of photos, and games.

Nobody needs 128GB of space. Some may want it, but they definitely don't need it. If there was a need Apple would offer iPhones with 128GB of storage.

Some people feel they need to have every song they have ever purchased/ripped/stolen in their pockets 24x7, without relying on cloud services. Apparently they expect to be sitting in an airplane in eponymous mode, and suddenly have a spontaneous urge to hear a specific song among their collection of 100K, said song of which they have not listened to... ever? It could be a 23 hour trip traversing two separate hemisphere crossings, and you know, if you have to wait that long to listen to a song you REALLY NEED TO HEAR RIGHT NOW, it would be very, very unsatisfactory.

Of course there are other reasons to want large capacity; but we've been hearing complaints about this one since the iPod was invented.

You forgot they also need to have the song in the best quality possible to match the optimal listening conditions of being in an airplane.

Good for you. I have a 64GB and I'm nearly maxed out. I'm not you. I want a 128GB iPhone.

I don't know about the rest of you but I need more storage so I can fill up my phone with even more content, most of which I will ignore or forget that I even had in the first place.

You aren't using your iPhone the way most do, even 32 GB is crowded for me. Non trivial apps take up a lot of space all on their own these day, just look at garage band as an example here. Beyond that your music library takes up a lot of room. As for photography it is easy to fill up 32 GB very quickly just taking one trip.

Honestly I'd like to see 256 GB.

There better be a 128Gb option in the 4.7 inch, should have been one in the iPhone 5. I want everything on my phone, I don't want to have to manage it, sync and forget is what I want. My 64GB is pretty much full and I still have stuff to go on it.

I know people that have the 16gb that say that about the 32gb. No one NEEDS a iPhone..... A iPhone is a total want. We can agree that everyone uses their phones differently. So what is important to me,may not be to someone els and the same for you.
I'd love a 128gb,but I just like when companies provide options for everyone.

The main thing that stuck out to me in this article was the date. I hope it's accurate :)

wants and needs are subjective. your statement of apple would offer a 128gb only if there was a need for it makes no sense. nobody really "needs" a smartphone as we could continue to live with a dumb phone, yet apple makes a smartphone.

I'm also surprised, but I assume it's people with lots and lots of offline content, especially dozens and dozens of full length films (100 GB / 4 GB = 25 feature length films at once, i.e. 50 hours)... I need 15 GB for thousands of songs via Spotify (can keep playlists offline at my choice), 110 apps, movies via Netflix, all sorts of TV streaming.

The reason Apple don't support these users is because they're too few to design a product for. I wonder how well a wireless SSD would work here instead + iOS support. That way, these users could get 256 GB or 512 GB cheap, which might be even better for them? Maybe some are asking for the wrong feature?

No, you're wrong. Apple does not offer a 128GB iPhone because they want to push cloud based services for a monthly fee. Giving users enough storage for all of their media and documents ensures that no one will switch to iCloud, especially if it costs money.

This is the same crap Apple pulled with Flash. I remember all of the negative propaganda surrounding Flash when the real reason Apple refused to allow it was because it directly competed with it's App Store. If Rovio could release Angry Birds in Flash, playable through a standard web browser, they could bypass Apple's fees completely. They would be able to keep 100% of the profits while Apple sits on the outside wondering why they have no content in the App Store. This is why Flash is not allowed on iOS devices.

Come on people. Technology is supposed to make our lives easier, not harder. I went from never having to manage my music on my iPod Classic to having to manage my music all the time on my iPhone. How is that easier? The answer is it's not easier, it's harder which is what Apple wants so you can upgrade to iTunes Match for a yearly fee. This is what I had to do in order to have all of my music with me at all times. However, now I'm shackled by AT&T's data usage policy and risk being charged additional fees if I happen to exceed their limits while accessing data I've already paid for and own.

I live in Colorado so taking weekend drives through the mountains is a way of life over here. However, because I'm in the mountains and cell service is spotty at best, having a reliable data connection to download my iTunes Matched songs is difficult to come by. How can I enjoy the music I've purchased and the service I've subscribed to if I can't get reliable cell service while I'm in certain geographical areas? How is this better and easier than having those files stored physically on my iPhone? How is it better for the consumer to be forced to rely on extra services so they can enjoy the products that they purchased?

Having enough storage to house all of my media and documents makes my life easier, regardless of if I use all of those files on a consistent basis. Relying on AT&T's data service to access my property is a bad business model. It's not bad for AT&T or Apple but it's bad for the consumer. However, the negative propaganda has started and people like me with 16,000 songs are called "Data Hogs" and made to feel bad because we've collected thousands of songs throughout the years. Something that Apple and Steve Jobs told us we could do back in the early days of the iPod. However, with the advent of cloud based services, the concept of having adequate storage is being eliminated. Having adequate storage directly opposes the idea of cloud based storage services.

UGH what is with people that are always like "Why would anyone need a bigger screen" "Why would anyone need more space". Geez stop being so narrow minded.

How about videos for example!

Why the hate? It was a legitimate question asked in a civilized manner. You don't know their circumstances. Maybe they are a new iPhone user. Maybe using the phone for video hasn't occurred to them yet. Maybe they prefer to manage their local storage to not need 128gb, etc, etc.

Next time, try to answer the question as civilized as it was asked (as many other people did before you). ;)

The funny thing is that in trying to troll, you've actually hit the nail on the head - if I'm flying longhaul and I suddenly do get an urge to listen to an obscure song I've got in my collection, which is the better option - to be able to satisfy that desire there and then, or to have to wait until another time when the moment will have passed? It may be a "first-world problem", but it's a valid reason... convenience! Why have a smartphone at all, surely just about everything else can wait till you get home?

You're right, it would make sense to. However it's nice to have your pictures on your phone to hand/message, and also when you have shared photo streams, it makes you feel hesitant to remove anything.

Hoping with the next version of iPhoto (which currently is possibly the worst software on my Mac) you'll be able to do similar things.

This.

I only recently gave in and began dumping my camera roll to my Mac Mini regularly... and I hate not having the entire past 5 years of photos at my immediate beck and call. I did this because I already pay $20/yr to bring my 5GB of iCloud storage up to 15GB and I refuse to pay more than that (as I was nearing the 15GB).

My photo stream keeps the last 1000 photos, which does cover most of my needs, but three things:
  1. Photo Stream isn't instantaneous. Having to switch between it and my Camera Roll when a picture doesn't show up fast enough is bogus.
  2. Bouncing between albums at all when I just want recent media is a total PITA.
  3. When I want those old photos, I want them NOW, dammit.

So whatever. It looks like iOS is making some big promises towards fixing this mess.
