extra thigh joints?

How are people putting this much force on phones in their front pockets??? Do some people have an extra joint in their thigh that flexes the phone like this? I really don't see how it's physically possible to bend any phone like this unless it's in the back pocket and someone sits on it.

this week has been an utter mess, dare I saw Tim has been too soft and nice to be the feared boss that was Steve Jobs. Whereas I can imagine Steve taking his bent iphone 6+ and throwing it at someone in design screaming "Oh sorry, just in case you didnt know, it was ****en BENT before i threw it!", Tim would slowly walk in and get.. heeeeeeeeeeyyyyyy :).. umm.. this phone.. haha.. its just that ..:) .. its a little bent guys.. what can we do about it :).

I can't stop laughing ######

That is 100000% the truth!!!!

The person in the videos is forcing it to bend. This cannot happen in casual use of pants.

The guy is forcing with his *fingers*. Fingers are tools meant for precise work and they're not exactly the most powerful part of your body. Moreover, a lot of people have surprisingly little force in their fingers or do not know how to use that force properly - I'm always amazed at how many people are unable to open a bottle or a can.
The legs, however, contains some of the most powerful muscles of the body (hip flexor, quadriceps...). You can push more than 150kg with a leg without a sweat - try doing that with your fingers!

The level of force that this guy is forcing to get out of his fingers muscles is matched tenfold and more by your legs everytime you take a step or climb a stair and yet you don't even feel like you're struggling (at least I hope for you). Which means that you can apply that level of force to your iPhone with your legs without even being conscious that you're making an effort.

Thanks for posting this.

He's saying the same thing I've been saying for hours.

Nice post. Thanks. I think iPhone 6 is way too big of a launch. People will find anything and everything wrong with it. Out of 20m units I expect some will break, some will bend, and some will crack when thrown against the ground. I for one don't put extreme pressure on my phone.

Edit: sorry 10m. Not sure how the 2 got in there.

And based on your name, you're a female who probably carries a purse or bag. Most men (and many women) don't carry purses and have no choice but to put phones in their pants pocket, unless they prefer to carry it in their hand all day long.

But they do have the choice to not sit on them. When I do put my phone in my pocket, I take it out when sitting down. Always have.

And yet the guys hands turn blood red and shake from the pressure. And people's fingers and hands are / can be very strong. Send me any phone and I'll paste a video of breaking it in half with just my fingers. Promise you, it can be done.

At last. I've been waiting all thread for a force guru to chime in. Finger force and the force fingers can be forced in. I learned a lot.

If you don't feel a phone digging deeply against your leg, you need to see a neurologist. Or you are really fat and wear tight jeans. Fat pressure is not really felt. Take your phone and push it against your legs. Using nothing but your fingers. Now push hard until your hands shake and fingers turn red. Can you feel it? It hurts.

The 6+ he bent was already a bit bent. I wonder how difficult would it be to bend it from scratch.

That being said... I don't like this. Anyone knows if Apple has replaced these bent phones with refurbs?

I would imagine that there would be plenty of 6+ stock that has been returned, so I don't see why not.

Putting it in your front pocket isn't necessarily "sitting on them." People have put cell phones and smartphones of all sizes (ask Android phone owners) in their front pockets and sat with them since cell phones came into existence without any problems. Expecting one not to bend in this manner isn't asking for too much.

By the way, I'm an iPhone and iMac owner, so I'm not here to bash Apple, but I'm not about to defend their mistakes and poor designs either.

Any device with the "phone" designation should probably be able to be transported in either the front or rear pockets of pants.

If it needs to be carried in a separate bag, or luggage case, it's about as convenient as a tablet.

Apple should at least have known that if the device bends in pockets, people will bend them and be upset. Yes, it's predictable that it bends, but this fiasco was every bit as predictable.

They can't because Ive won't/wouldn't allow it. His obsession cannot be denied. The protruding camera is all the proof anyone needs. That extra 1.1mm? would have kept the 6+ from bending as easily. I believe I read that the HTC One is around 32% thicker, in material thickness.

Let's say the iPhone body is 1.5mm thick (guess), add 32% (~0.5mm), you have an additional 0.6mm for extra battery. So, not only could the phone have had a flush camera but it could have had a bigger battery and NOT BENT under most all circumstances.

Ive needs to cash out and go sit on a beach somewhere.

Right on. And it would have the best battery life of any smartphone on the market because of the ultra efficient A8.

Not that Apple cares, but I want Ive replaced by someone who's genius lies at the intersection of form and function.

Man, am I the only one feeling the sexual tension?

Well put. It's not as if this is the first 5.5" phone to come out and that 6 + owners should expect this to happen by simply carrying their smartphone the way they always have. Perhaps people put too much faith into Apple and their designs.

I'm not defending anything except for my choice to not keep a phone in my pocket while sitting (front or back, still puts pressure on the phone, not to mention my leg). I find it uncomfortable. Hence my answer to the original question, which was would 6+ owners be exchanging for a 6.

If the 6+ doesn't fit the lifestyle of certain people (ie, those who feel they must carry a phone in their pockets no matter how much stress they place on the phone), then clearly they should purchase a phone that is designed for that. Or use a honking big case.

Having said that, there are plenty of people in the forum, men and women, who are very happy with their 6+ and not having problems. People just don't have as much interest in the non-controversial.

I think there might be a split between people that would take a fatter phone with no protruding camera and a stronger body or a phone much thinner and lighter but with potential to bend and a camera that sticks out. I like the latter, but that's because I don't sit on my phone.

The fact that Apple had to recall an OS 8 update today gives credence to bendgate.

Tim's triumphant moment was short lived.

Apple, take action.
