Does it strike anyone else as bizarre that this apparently cheap, low end budget iPhone will be quicker than the two thirds of the iPad line? I know iPad sales are in decline, but leaving the line languishing with last year's chips is hardly going to help.
Think its on par with the a8x, but yeah man wouldve been nice to see a a9 in the mini and a semi cut down a9x in the air 2.

There's nothing strange, since it won't be a budget anything and will be more expensive than the Ipad Air 2.

Apple doesn't do "budget" in a new phone. The only ones close to that are end of line discounted phones. Even thee, it isn't close to being considered budget by other phone's definition of "budget".

You probably don't understand that 16 GB is for the base unit, which will serve many customers just fine. For those that need more storage, Apple has options available.

It's like buying a new car. There's a base model, which will meet the needs of many. And there are extra cost options for those that need them.

Well, why not just change the game by just another tad, and go 8 GB. I'm sure that's fine for a lot of people too. I sometimes forget Apple is about profit first, innovation second. That's fine, I just need to understand that from time to time.

According to Tim Cook still a game changer in 2016! :p

Yup. I wonder how many of these new phones are going to be manufactured in Ireland. You know, by the "workers" Apple pays to look busy and save taxes. I guess you can say they actually make money there because it is true they are saving all those billions in taxes. So yeah, they are doing something there. Just not anything that has to do with making computing devices.

You 4 inchers drive me mad.

Im sitting here at work in my vehicle having some food watching some netflix on my 6s plus 5.5 inch screen. Its just like being at home with my huge screen.

Good luck doing that with your tiny 4 inch.

You are probably not an engineer or scientist, and as a result you don't seem to understand what innovation is. It's is not simply adding more memory.

Considering the size of the OS and a minimal amount of storage needed to satisfy many of Apple's customers who just want a smartphone and don't have large music/photo libraries, and do not make videos, 16 GB is perfect. Many of Apple's customers fall into that category.

For those with music libraries and photos, Apple has storage options available.

It's like buying a new car. There is a base price with standard set of features that meets the needs of many who just need basic transportation. There are also option lists for those that want more than that.

The real question, I think, is why does Apple's choice of having 16 GB of storage in their base model upset you so much? Do you feel similarly that Ford, BMW, or Toyota offer automobiles with base models that may make sense to tens of thousands of their customers, but perhaps not for you specifically?

Things are souding good. Under $500 for a 16gb and I would bite. More than that and I will probably wait and see what the next flagship device is.

If it costs only $100 less than the proper iPhone 6S then its going to fail like the 5C did. There just isn't a good rationale for a cheap iPhone unless its actually "cheap"... granted Apple won't make a throw away phone but a $399 price tag feels right (which means $499 is likely) and lets them compete overseas where people can't afford $650+ on a phone.

Though anyone who absolutely needed a smaller screen size will be pleased.
5C did not fail by any definition.
Sold in huge numbers.

TO be fair, the C was the closest thing to a budget device that they sold. I think that is what is being referred to as budget.

The C this year, assuming the rumors are true, isn't following the footsteps of the previous model, because the previous model was just last year's phone in a new shell in terms of hardware. This seems to be a brand new device.

Why do you even waste your time posting on here? I have zero desire to watch movies on my phone. I use it for texting/talking and light email and I prefer something with a smaller form factor. People like different things and are free to- get over yourself.

People who prefer smaller phones aren't saying there shouldn't be bigger phones - they would just like the choice.
Unfortunately that is not the case. People on either side see only what works for them and argue that we need nothing else. There are closed minded folks in all walks of life.

It's a weird concept but I think the phablet users will consume mobile media on a smaller display on average than someone with a smaller phone and a tablet.

Phablets are supposed to negate the need for a tablet (hence their name), so while phablet users will consume all of their mobile media at 5.5", someone with a small phone and a tablet will consume most of their mobile media at 7" to 10"

Good luck with your tiny 5.5"....

I am amazed at how many people have adapted smartphones for texting and light email. This is more an observation of the market than a criticism, by the way. Ten years ago spending $500+ on a device for texting and phone calls was considered absurd by most, and now it is perfectly normal. Not only that, we are paying more for pur plans now too.

Ten years ago the market was completely different, but I can't imagine one uses a smartphone ONLY for texting or email.

Who are you to say whether i should post here or not.

I see a phone as a media device, so a bigger screen makes more sense to me, even if i have to use 2 hands. Big deal

I don't think I've ever watched Netflix on my phone

I dont think I've ever used a phone for just texts and calls either like the 4 inchers do.

Its 2016 in a couple days get with the times

I only add whats app and tapatalk but remove the email

Whatsapp is a full fledged cross-platform application. Texts, videos, sound bytes plus other stuff.

On my old 4inch phone was used for Netflix and videos.

While I don't know what metric you are using to conclude the 5C was a failure, that phone was also basically last year's phone in a new plastic shell. This phone, if rumors are true, is a smaller 6s, which is something people seem to actually be asking for.

The release time is what has me scratching my head. Not sure what to think about that.

Would it seriously hurt Apple to just put some actual colour on their 'proper' phone line? Why even bother separating "Xs" phones and "Xc" phones? Why should people who actually like a colourful phone be insulted with being forced the inferior option?

And what happened to the iPod Nano 5G line-up? That was aluminum and still managed to be perfectly colourful. Where did that idea go?

I am really tired of this sterile subdued trend.
This is a diffcult one. pple hasa few years of experience with cases now, and invitably, a handful of cases, generally the more vibrant colors, end up in clearance bins. I make it a habit to check Target clearance and every target around me (for whatever reason New ENgland has a target within 5 miles of everywhere I have ever been lol) had dozens of red, blue, and green silicone 6/6plus cases. A case sitting on shelves all year until it is discounted is one thing. A phone is another.

There's also he question of whether colors actually help sell a flagship at all; flagships don't seem to need help with sales.

I share your feelings about color though. Id love a green anodized phone. I just don't see Apple deciding that it is a profitable venture. I can always hope.

iPhone is NOT a car. And I'm not the engineer? 16 GB is nothing these days. 32 GB should be the base model these days. I'm sure Apple can afford it. Apple makes the shareholders happy. How about making the customer happy for a change.
