Wait I thought Mega Pixels don't matter.. :\

It's one factor of many in picture quality. Apple's stance is that other manufacturers overemphasis it, not that it doesn't matter at all.

Focusing only on megapixels when talking about picture quality is like focusing only on clock speed when talking about the performance of a processor. Yes, if all the chips are identical besides clockspeed, then obviously the one with the most ticks per second has the best performance (ignoring temperature and battery concerns), but it's better if you can make it so the chip is able to accomplish more operations in fewer steps rather than just cranking up the clock speed.

All of you Android geeks will never figure out how Apple does things...

Apple didn't release 3G or LTE when everyone else did. Why? Timing. The networks weren't even really built out, and the chipsets were too power hungry.

Apple doesn't do a lot of things until later for obvious reasons: Apple isn't a spec whore like the Android community; Apple waits until they can do something better with a technology before they implement it; Apple typically refines a use or uses for a technology to make it more usable and reliable.

None of that matters to a bunch of spec whores, though.

Android: all about the specs, even if they don't combine to make a great user experience.

I love reading all the love for 4k and 12mp when the competition has been doing it for years and now all of a sudden its a new holy coming when apple finally does it.

I also read the 6s is getting the same modem the gs5 had lol all the hate when competition had it and nothing but love when apple finally catches up.
What good is 300Mbps LTE speed when NONE of the carriers can support it, and they won't anytime soon? It's all about the specs, huh?

apple never copy 4k way to other technology
they might call something else not 4k name

They kept it using the "k" system with the iMac though, so it would be inconsistent if they made it something else.

Let's hope they have a 2x3 binning mode for 2K recording or making pictures at a lower resolution. Even better... Sony has HDR technology in their security cameras using alternating lines if I'm not mistaken (so one line is short exposure, next line is long exposure, then combine). Via dedicated pixels HDR could be done.

And how about global shutter, Apple ? Sony has that as well, even combined with BSI.

Well it doesn't really matter about the pixels. Most 4k sensors only have a minimum megapixel count of around 12-16 like the Panasonic GH4 and Sony a7s. The most I've seen on a single camera that handles 4k in-camera is the Sony a7r II which boasts an impressive 42. I'm sure Black Magic, RED Epic and Arri Alexa sport similar settings but then again you're talking cameras worth way more than a brand new car. But back to the point, megapixels aren't really a factor here in regards to getting the 4k quality.

They were always saying samsung and other phone makers were adding useless features and that there was no need for such high quality photos and videos. But like you said once apple does it it's like the best thing sine sliced bread. Sometimes I feel like folks on this forum have short term memory problems.

Actually, it was a waste when 4K video viewing would have been limited to the select few that bought 4K TVs. You wouldn't even be able to view it properly on the iPhones or iPads either because the GPU and display can't support it right now. Things are slightly different these days since Apple launched the 5K iMacs. Now that they are going to standardize the iMac line across the board with 5K capabilities, it makes sense to to introduce that capability on an iPhone now. Still need to bump the resolution up on the devices so you can view it in all it's glory though.

8MP is enough they said. Bigger pixels = better pictures they said.

As much as I like Apple products over the competition, I thank and acknowledge the competition all the time because without it Apple products would suck. The iPhone 6 Plus being one of the biggest example of competition doing it's magic on Apple.

You're expecting everyone on an Apple rumors website to be objective? ..... some people :D

Precisely!

Even as an addition from that, MP is usually used as the main factor when, to the average consumer, it doesn't need to be. I used to work in a photo department and got asked constantly why I always suggested customers cameras with a lower MP. My response was always "because they don't need anything more." Most people take their photos, throw them on Facebook (which crushes the quality down anyway) and that's it. If you aren't printing a photo, anything above 8 MP is usually a complete waste. Even if you are printing, 10 MP will print an 8x10 with no problem which most people aren't printing any larger than that.

Companies know that people just like big numbers so they give them big numbers, even when the people don't need it

Apple doesn't do a lot of things until later for obvious reasons: profit. Apple isn't a spec whore since the less material apple users, the quicker products become obsolete (ipad 3, iPad air, iphone 6+, the new macbook, etc) Apple waits until they can do something and then calls it the discovery of the century (Apple pay, 4 inch display, 4.7 inch display, 5.5 inch full hd resolution, slow mo, customisable keyboards etc).

It's easy to generalise smh

The problem with 4K screens is most cameras don't take 4K. It's a chicken and egg problem. That's why we still watch 480i TV. No one had the vision to go first.

What are you talking about? The "vision" is dictated by technology and its affordability.

I wonder if 3D will actually take off b.c of 4K. Having full resolution and passive 3D is really great. I think 3D stalled b.c it sucked initially....3D on a 4K set with passive 3D is a treat. Related to that; Jurassic World has seen nearly 50% of ticket sales be in 3D. It is not that people do not want 3D, it is that it sucked for many years at home.

To me 3D will always be a gimmick and better color/resolution won't help. When we're talking about 3D for TV/film content, it's merely a device that force feeds the viewer the depth that their brain already recognizes reflexively. I don't think 3D will add anything of value until it's further developed into tech like VR and the like, areas where seeing parallax truly adds depth to one's perception.

So from the Chinese text, there's a new pink colour but not quite rose gold. Did I read that right? Something about taking pictures while also recording movies?

But the most impressive thing is the accuracy (just a touch from a finger tip) and even faster Touch ID performance, up to 30% faster than the 6, which is about the same as the Galaxy S6 (where the Samsung is not as consistently accurate).
Didn't Apple introduce that feature with the iPhone 6? Taking pictures while recording video? I could swear they did.

Still, you need a little vision at least. That's what we called Steve Jobs anyway, a visionary for introducing or ditching several technologies first.

yeah that slate was really sexy. But apple needs to figure how to coat the black aluminum better. My iPhone 5 had a ton of scratches and I only owned it for two weeks.

Well it's personal opinion, but I think that slate colour was ugly as hell. The space grey in my opinion is stunning, but I still prefer the white bezel.
