So what you're basically saying is that only Apple devices released within the last year aren't sluggish? That's hardly an endorsement, given their extremely high pricing.

No, I'm saying devices with 2GB RAM don't have the Safari refresh issue. Still there's plenty of 1GB devices that aren't sluggish. iPad Air 2 was released in October 2014, so almost two years ago, not one.

Fair enough. Still terrible. Considering how cheap RAM is, and how much profit they make, it boggles the mind that Apple has just started putting a measly 2Gb, when clearly 1Gb wasn't up to the job. Equally that they'd sell a 16Gb phone with no expandable storage, yours for CHF759. Crazy stuff.

This test is meaningless since it's not something that people normally do. Also, Android and iOS behave differently in regards to background multitasking with Android allowing apps to run in the background like a modern PC whereas on iOS apps get suspended in the background then killed after three minutes so it's inadequate if you need to run an app that requires a persistent connection in the background like SSH, VNC, RDP, FTPS, bittorrent, etc. Apps like vSSH even warn of this iOS limitation. That's why iOS can get away with lower specs/DRAM/battery since it's not true multitasking and more like task switching.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vssh/id527244258

Now, that we're aware of the 3 minute kill limitation of iOS we can question why they massaged this test to run under 3 minutes to avoid iOS killing and reloading apps. If they actually use all the apps they open like most people do the test would run over 3 minutes and show just how more meaningless this test is.
So, the best post of this entire thread only has 12 likes? While other posts like "iPhone is faster than any android phone with less cores, hurr durr" have 30+ likes? The most embarrassing thing here is me realizing AGAIN that iOS is not a true multitasking OS, while Android is.

I used to switch between iPhone and Android every year, always getting the latest flagship. But that changed after I got the Galaxy S5. Good phone, for a time....then all the problems started settling in. Got the 6+ and decided to never look back. I'm all Apple from here on out.

Y'know, it's funny. Android fans will tell you how superior their phones are and yet year after year the iPhone continues to lay the smack down. They go on and on about how over priced the iPhone is, yet the top of the line Androids just don't hold up. They're just not very good phones when you get down to it. They try to win you over with half baked features that no one uses more than once. And if something happens to your phone? Good luck.

Android is just too risky to invest in. I've learned my lesson. The Walled Garden is a paradise.

And that is important to how many people exactly?

Look around you and see just how people are carrying out 3-4 concurrent tasks on their Android smartphone? Very few, if any. It's cool to theory craft and come up with some extreme scenario, but the reality is that most people will not be doing those things in the aforementioned example.

iOS lets people multitask where it counts (for most, it's playing music in the background while using some other app). Most people will be hopping from one app to another, and that is where 2 faster cores really shines.

that's just stupid, iPhone has lower screen resolution.

However, a subsequent test was also carried out with the Note 7 resolution set to 720p and it still was out performed speed wise. I think Samsung's poor optimisation of the SD820 is more to blame than anything else to be frank. But there is certainly a measure of mountains being made out of molehills on the forum.

The Note 7 may be slower at loading apps (fractionally) but it can do many things that the iPhone simply can not, such as multi-window, pen input, themes, etc.... Whether the extra features found on the note 7 are worth more than the difference in loading speeds is subjective, but either way if you were in the market for a phone with stylus - there isn't much better than the Note 7. But folks will continue to bicker around this regardless.

iPhone 6S Plus renders at a similar resolution to the S7 so a test against that phone would have been fairer, but in all honesty I don't think it'd make that much difference.

Even in the processor intensive tasks where screen res will make little difference, such as the Lapse It program in that video, iPhone is still miles faster.

Yay, I'm happy for the iPhone 6s. However I really don't care about these tests to see which is "the best." I'm quite pleased with the performance of my phone, and if I owned this Samsung one, I'm confident I'd be equally as pleased. I'm not a spec junky like I used to be 15 years ago.
Just three little remarks. This is a performance test, not a specs comparison. The Galaxy Note 7 actually wins on the spec sheets. There was no iPhone and no Galaxy, when you allegedly still cared about their specs 15 years ago. Other than that, fine buy what you like.

This is not even remotely scienftiic and to somehow connect this so-called test to real-world use case scenarios is pure hyperbole. Fact is, Samsung just makes better hardware and software. Samsung's hardware has more cores and more RAM. So I have to think these tests are just false.

The one so-called advantage the iPhone 6s has over the S7 is 3D Touch, a so-called feature that adds no additional level of interactivity or pratical usability. You can compile a list of everything 3D Touch offers and it still wouldn't matter. OLED is a higher priority than 3D Touch. A bigger battery is a higher priority than 3D Touch. Smart Scroll is a higher priority than 3D Touch. It just saddens me that Apple wasted years of resources for something so stupid as 3D Touch. Ooh, I can now interact on z-axis interfaces. How is this revolutionary? It's like adding a 5th wheel to a car.

There has never, ever been a time where I've personally wished I could press harder on an interface element. Never.

So the way I see is the iPhone is clearly inferior to the S7 and Android in every single category. Don't be so quick to be guilible that Apple's stupid so-called custom chip has some advantage over Samsung's superior chip.
In denial much?

Ok but, not doing intensive processing tasks on a phone most of the time and the Note 7 is still waterproof, had wireless charging, and an OLED screen. Just pointing out that in the real world, those things would usually trump processor speed under a significant load.

All very nice, but I wish Apple cared about desktop performance as much as they do telephone speed. Desktop PC performance is so far ahead of both the iMac and the Mac Pro now it makes Apple hardware a very hard sell for pros. The Mac Pro in particular should be the fastest, most no compromise system on the planet. In reality it's years out of date and lacks even modern OpenGL drivers, let alone Vulkan. It's a sorry state of affairs.

And best of all, Apple throws in the Kool-Aid for free. Cheers!

Sorry, it wasn't my list - someone posted it earlier on and I called it a load of BS so we are in the same boat here as I agree with you 100% :)

The only reason I posted it again was someone asked me which points out of the original list I thought were rubbish, so I posted it again. Should have put it in quotes, so I apologise for the mix up.

Sorry I apologise, I got the wrong end of the stick.

Apple is going to destroy everyone with the A10. Their advantage is so huge it's not even funny anymore.

This said, the performance of the Note 7 is an embarrassement for Samsung; and for sites like The Verge that kindly overlook every problem in exchange for a fat advertising cheque.
Nope, The Note 7 6 GB RAM version will not destroy

Samsung Exynos 8890 will still be fastest mobile processor in the market until Galaxy S8 comes out
I wonder if your able to uninstall iOS 10 and instal Windows 10 mobile on the iPhone 7 will it still run smoothly?

Reminds me of this chap. He sold the Eiffel Tower despite not even owning it.

Twice.

I get these random calls. Some Pakistany guy telling me my Windows computer is sending error messages to the Microsoft technical assistance office. He wants to help me correct the problem. All I need to do is get on my Windows computer and follow his instruction. He keeps asking me to press the Windows key on my keyboard.

Should I go out and buy a Windows computer so next time he calls I can press the Windows key? All I own right now are Macs.
