Can someone help me see why some of the storage space couldn't be used for swap space? I remember helping 32bit Windows by plugging in an unused 4GB usb stick and making it a SuperFetch drive --- it would function as a ram cache. I think it was called ReadyBoost.

In the iPhone 6/6+, the onboard storage is either MLC or TLC, right? TLC has somewhere near 200mb/sec write speeds and MLC has almost 100mb/sec write speeds. Both have much faster read speeds.

Why not just use some of the onboard storage to hold the state of the app - seems to me 100mb/sec would be plenty fast for most apps. Especially on the 128GB iPhones - I'd gladly flip a toggle that says: Allocate 10GB of storage for swap/readyboost.

Or does it already do this?

4k recording is stupid... In the context that if you're just shoehorning a 20 mp camera into something to check a box - like the One M9 - then it's a total waste. The One still takes garbage photos... All so it could record in 4k. Not exactly a good trade off.

Waiting and doing something right is a better plan... Sorry man. It just is.

Samsung's Note 4 does 4K recording and it looks pretty damn awesome IMO. But still, this goes back to my original point. Samsung puts a good camera on the Note 4 and S6 and just so happens to do 4k and you get the usual Apple brigrade bashing and saying "4k is stupid, nobody needs that, another useless gimmick, the current iPhone camera is good enough, ect" Apple can come out with 4k on the next iPhone and then a lot of those same people will suddenly change their tune. It was the same with the screen resolution, screen size, and even the RAM. People just need to keep it 100. Don't say "this is feature sucks, nobody needs this" but then when Apple puts it on their flagship, all of a sudden it's the greatest thing since sliced bread. Not accusing you but I've seen that crap so many times on here and it's ridiculous. Why some have this insane need to defend Apple like Tim Cook is paying their mortgage, is beyond me.

To you it may not, but to many of us, the camera matters a lot. And the differences are not so minor, but pretty noticeable.

I returned an S5 because of the poor dynamic range and ended up with the iPhone 6+, which takes noticeably better photos. I also have the Sony Z2 and the 6+ sub-optimal light photos are way better, particularly on a larger monitor.

I really hope that Samsung has a winner with the S6. I've had a couple of older Galaxies and never really liked them much, but the Edge 6 looks good (notably, sans the stupid edge widget) and I am a sucker for a good camera. We'll see.

All this talk is just nitpicking on cameras nevertheless. Why can't both be good and call it day?

The next iPhone better have 2GB of RAM minimum, I'm fed up with the performance issues and reloading that I keep getting currently.

If it comes out with 1GB once again, I'm switching to the Samsung S6.

Time to upgrade for me if the 6S+ comes with 2GB ram!

I really hate TouchWiz and AMOLED so S6 is a not go for me.

The 6C Plus S will probably be more cost effective. :p

It seems like the "c" devices are on a two year cycle. I'm guess the 6c will have the 6 cpu & camera with a colored plastic body - the biggest questions are will it be a 5 or 6 sized screen, and what will be the storage?

btw - have you seen that the 5c is only available now in 8GB?! That is barely enough for the OS and all the Apple apps! Let's hope the 6c is 16 and 32GB, while the 6s is 32/64/128 (for $50/bump for God's sake!)

I would rather they forgo replacing the system chip (A9 or what have you) and focus on things like RAM and multitasking. The current CPU is very capable and everything else bottlenecks it. Mostly a lack of RAM and an OS that has a ton of artificial delays.

Lack of multitasking is one of the shortcomings that really hurt Apple in the early 90s. It's interesting to see them let it slip again.

The memory is POP (Package-On-Package) in the iPhone and most other mobile phones, while it is a separate chip on most tablets. So that means the die size of the RAM has to be the same or smaller than the die size of the SOC or it forces the package dimensions to grow. Also doubling the RAM size is also a chance the double the number of interconnects (channels/bandwidth) and thus requires a matching change in the SOC. This is why the iPad 2 uses the 8X CPU, the X is the changes required to handle more memory (off package) along with the extra GPU core.

More than 1GB of RAM, in a fixed die size, thus requires a die process shrink. If the capacity in the new wafer process wasn't there yet (or mature enough for high yields) then Apple can't depend on getting 60 million of them on a tight schedule and they make the smart choice to back off and stick with 1GB for their already complicated rollout of two new phones using larger screens and save the RAM upgrade for the "s" cycle. Makes perfect sense.

The 5C is so dirt cheap for an iPhone with iOS 8 on eBay these days. I got a refurb on eBay 16 GB in Blue for $200. It had an issue with the RAM, so I got it replaced with a brand new unit apparently. The battery life on it isn't the greatest, but it's a cheaper alternative than a 32 GB iPod Touch 5th Gen I was looking at for around $239.99. I use my 5C whenever I exercise and it serves as my backup to my Note 4 though since I like to tinker with phones and the like.

Btw, how can you expect a 6C? I don't think the 5C sold enough and I doubt Apple will put Touch ID on it either. I am just interested in the 6S+ now since the Note 4 is great and all, but I am worried about the Note 5 not having the SD slot and removable battery. Don't forget their new leaked prices, $699 for the S6 w/ 32 GB? Imagine the Note 5? $799? I would probably just go for the iPhone 6S+ for $749 and 32 GB since I am considering swallowing my demands for more multi-tasking w/ the multiwindow. Samsung is too slow with software updates and carriers are starting to get too annoying with bloating and slow update windows themselves.

I wonder if they will even make a 6C? The 5C in 8GB is crazy, IMO. That seems to me like they don't want to sell the 5C. I'm thinking maybe the C model is going to disappear when the 6S is released.

I don't agree, only now 4K TV are starting to appear, and very pricey mind you. There is no way to record 4k content on media like BlueRay (Doen't exist) all you are left with, is your computer, which again to see 4K content in its mesmerizing glory, you will need a 4K monitor.
Now you can tell me that I can always convert it to HD (1920x1080) yes but whats the point then?

The world is not ready for 4k just yet, having a 4K TV today is useless as there is very little content to stream. And even streaming 4K say from Netflix will require a minimum of 25Mbps.

So yes 4k on a phone is completely useless today and just a gimmick.

Just my 2 cents, but earlier we heard that the next iOS would focus on perfofmance increases. If Apple increases the RAM in the 6s, then developers would use it. I believe this would lead to worse experience for iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6, and 6+ owners. It is speculation, but I do not believe will increase RAM until after the 6s.

Or maybe they will to encourage us to upgrade.

I actually disagree. If anything, the Note 4 and S6 are more future proof. They do standard 1080p AND 4k. You can switch between the two. You wanna use just 1080p on the Note? Cool. When you get that fancy new UHD TV from best buy, you can then record 4K on the Note and play it back on your TV. The Note 4 doing 4K and it actually looking good is definetly an added bonus to an already great smartphone.

No one will have the Note 4 or S6 by the time 4K becomes mainstream. so your future proofing comment is out the door.
And when 4K does become mainstream, Apple will release a phone and iPad to support it.

that is just asanine argument.

you don't record home videos now for preserving memories for 20, 30 or 40 years from now?

Geeze, i guess all those VHS tapes are just garbage, I should never have recorded all that junk, who the hell wants to remember my late grandparents, they're dead and gone right?! Or my nieces first steps, or maybe when I have kids one day..

the simple fact is that memories, and media sucha s video and pictures can be timeless based on the content. is it so hard to imagine that people wish now to preserve those memories in the highest available technological possible rates, so that they will continue in 10, 20 or 30 years from now, they still look as good as possible.

Iphone lovers will do everything to support their argument of apple using outdated hardware. BUT when apple will release these features they will be praising apple like crazy

Oh, don't tempt me to ditch my beautiful iPhone 4s...

I've owned every single iPhone to date. Trusting Apple I pre-ordered my iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. What a horrendous mistake. Little did I realize they'd come with the most crash prone version of iOS in Apple's history. Months later I'm still stuck with unreliable incredibly frustrating phones as Apple focuses on its Watch.

Oh what I'd give to roll back to the wonderful ultra reliable and exemplary iPhone 4S I enjoyed immensely. It was and is... most certainly the best iPhone I've owned.

That said I can only hope that the upcoming iPhone 6S or whatever they label it will be a suitable replacement for the mediocre iPhones I'm currently living with. If Apple wasn't so fat and happy they'd be embarrassed to have shipped such dreadful examples of far less than their best work.

I don't believe anyone ever said that 1 GB was enough. What they said was that Apple wasn't including so little to be cheap but for other reasons such as battery life and that the tradeoff may well be worth it.

2012 Galaxy Note II had 2GB DRAM and battery wasn't an issue as it easily did two days with use and up to six days idle. And, that's with powering an additional pen digitizer layer.

Quite frankly, its downright pathetic. I never understood these people with their undying love for a company. Be it Apple, Samsung, etc.

What happens one day if your beloved Apple goes bankrupt? I guess that's the day your use of technology ceases to exist.

Note had a big ass battery, so not sure why your even bringing this up. Funny how Android phones as described by users have always much better battery performance than those actually described in reviews...

Note 2 gets same battery rating from gsmarena as iphone 6 plus after 3 years.
Note 4 has much better battery life than iphone according to gsmarena and phonearena

Pretty much. And that's what I've been saying. Apple iFans bashed Samsung and other android phones for having big screens. "Big screens? That's stupid! I want a phone, not a giant iPad on my face!" Apple releases the 6 and the 6+ and now all of suddenly, big screens are cool b/c "Apple did it right, first" which is complete lie IMO. Many on here said that the 4yr old retina display was good enough, yet when Apple finally upped the resolution on th the 6 and the 6+, all of sudden HD screens are great. Same will happen with the RAM, 4K, and every other feature the hardcore Apple fans keep saying "nobody needs". Ridiculous.

4K today is a gimmick.

I love how you speak for the entire world, as if everybody gets a new phone every year. Some people do keep their phones for a while. And even if they do upgrade, they can still record 4K on their Note 4 and S6 and watch it back on a 4K TV when they do get one. It's all about preserving memories. You had cameras that were coming out with 1080p video recording before 1080p was "mainstream" People still bought those cameras which were able to preserve memories that they can still watch today. Those cameras were future proof, just like the Note 4 and S6 is today. Gimmick? I don't think so dude. More future proof than an iPhone? Yep

Agreed. Like I've said before, Apple and other giant tech companies don't give a damn about us. It's about the money and I'm not faulting them for that. It's nothing personal, it's just business.

Does that mean I can't put in a cheap prepaid sim when I'm traveling in other countries? This would be a no go.

You can still stick in your own SIM - unless Apple née Ive, thinks that its best in the interest of "thinness" to seal the SIM in without a door.
