Because the screens on the iPhone, iPhone 3G/3GS were terrible and retina actually made a massive difference to the experience.

The screen resolution 'deepen03' was talking about may be greater than that of an iPhone but in all fairness, some, as stated, would struggle to see the difference and if they did, it would be so fractional that they wouldn't care.

Creating pixels that will never be used singularly because the content and operating system just isn't utilising them seems a bit silly really.
Watch a 4k vid from YouTube on a s6, note 5 or a g4 and tell me you can't tell a difference.. Why do you think blu ray exists..

BLU-RAY and UHD exists so that you can watch movies on a 50 inch or larger screen with more clarity. On a 5 inch screen it's really a waste of time and battery life, but you enjoy your mega specs.
I will mate, you enjoy your non hd low res retina display still foolishly thinking it's awsome

Perhaps the biggest announcement out of the "Hey Siri" event today was Apple's confirmation of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, two new smartphones that will bring new features to Apple's smartphone line, including faster Touch ID, 3D Touch, and improved cameras. Following the event, Apple let a handful of media have closer looks at the new line of iPhones, all of whom came away with nearly universal positives regarding the small "S" generation design changes and its beefier upgrades under the hood.

TechnoBuffalo has posted one of the first videos of both the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, noting that while the latter's name "is a bit of a tongue twister," both phones appear to back up Apple's claim of improved internal upgrades. Particularly, they were impressed by the 3D Touch feature and its "quick actions," that provide shortcuts like taking a selfie with the camera app or peeking into a text message in Messages.

SlashGear called the iPhone 6s "familiar and yet different," noting that while the phones look largely the same as last year's models, there's enough new aspects to each device "to keep things more than interesting." The site liked the already-impressive third-party support for 3D Touch and found the front-facing selfie camera -- which uses the actual iPhone screen as a Retina Flash -- to work "surprisingly well." Unfortunately, they weren't as big on one of Apple's more surprising announcements, Live Photos.

On the photo and video side of things, Wired said images and video on the new iPhones "look insane," and that while the storage implications of Live Photos is yet to be determined, the new feature is endearing and creates a more lively photo gallery. The site also particularly touted the usefulness of the new 3D Touch feature, describing it as a way for the iPhone to feel "less like a collection of apps and more like a single, cohesive thing." All the same, the site believes there could be a downside to 3D Touch in the way users have to hunt for it in the first place.

No they couldn't. There multiple levels of pressing that has different function. Also, long press is tedious as you have to wait.

I'm not saying they should have implemented long press inplace of 3D Touch, just saying that it would be good to see the functionality rolled back and that it could be done with long presses. Definitely a 100% possible change from a software standpoint on older hardware, and even if I have to wait it's faster for some things than the current process (tap to open app, wait, tap compose message button, wait).

Last I checked 720p is still HD... just not "FULL HD" or "UHD" But on a 5 inch screen it doesn't even matter because the PPI is greater on a 5 inch 720p phone than it is on a 50 inch UHD TV.

Here's a link so you can get learned ;):

I would have skipped 3G, 4, 4S, 5S but still chosen to buy this one..
Who in their right mind would've skipped the 4?

For the record, I have a 6, I'm eligible for an upgrade, but I'll be skipping this one and getting a 7 next year.

The 6 is still an amazing phone, and the 3D Touch (to me) is a bit gimmicky. On the homepage, jailbreak has had a similar feature for years now.

I was actually referring to when retina burst on to the scene, and the 640p screen was lorded over like some God creation.. Pathetic..

Nothing thrilling… dont know how other ppl using their phones for, but im using it 95% of the time for calls, messages and VoIP, so i was hoping to hear about improved battery and a 4” iPhone version with the same spec’s and shape as the new ones. The last thing i care for is 3D Touch, more pixels in the camera, or 4K videos, specially when the base model is still 16GB.

Oh well, looks like i will stay with my old and trusty iPhone for another year…

Why are you even looking for a new iPhone if you only want 1990's tech? That makes no sense. Get a flip phone and be done with it. Why spend the money for a device with all the bells and whistles that you don't want or need? Seems pretty asinine to me. Why do you need more than 16gb for calls, messages, and VoIP?

If its all the same, I'd rather forgo the higher pixel density than suffer the indignity of having to use any handset designed to run Android. Sure, I'll be happy when Apple gives me higher resolutions, but I won't need to brag about it because its just a phone!

The saying 'First world problems' comes to mind.
You sir are an embarrassment to the decent posters on MR, the indignity of having an Android handset.. How pompous and up your own backside do you sound.. So you hate it when lg or samsung provide bits for the iPhone do you.. Someone needs to grow up.

Troll much?

I only say that after having a quick browse through your posts. At least I sometimes have something positive to say.

I'm not blind to the fact that other companies supply hardware for the iPhone. I'm just grateful that those companies don't supply the software.

It's so ironic, Apple literally updates almost every aspect of the hardware: the display glass, aluminum body, display with 3D touch and Haptic feedback, Touch ID, the A9 processor, the M9 coprocessor, the Facetime Camera, the iSight Camera, wifi, cellular and bluetooth upgrades... and some people still say #boring :)
Everything's amazing and nobody is happy

Is the 3D Touch feature optional on the 6s? Can it be turned off in settings? Is there something you know that the rest of us don't?

Well you need to press down on the screen... I'm guessing he's saying don't press hard on the screen and the 3D touch won't get activated.

Give over, a forum is about back and forth, differences of opinion. Back and forth.. Grow a set..

Just coz im interested in new tech, and would like to see upgrades that important to me, it doesn't mean im spending, or in this case throwing my money every single year for something i dont need...
Just coz i dont use most of the "new" options i got with my iPhone in daily basis since i upgrade from my flip phone, doesn't mean i dont need them at all - im sure you gonna take only 'live photos', 4K videos and will use the new options every day from now on...

The two things that annoying me with the new phones are - the battery life and size options.
much more important for me then 'right click mouse' (3D touch), 4k video or how many pixels i gonna have (camera with optical zoom will always win anyways)!

About the base 16GB model - i can go along with 16GB, for sure i dont need 64GB or more, but would be nice to have a 32GB as a base model in 2015 (cloud storage is not an option unless you having unlimited data service) , spacial when os, apps, pics, videos and data growing all the time.

What? Why are you referring to a phone that came out over 5 years ago?

the Screen is still 720p in 2015.. epic fail.

Don't tell me PPI doesn't matter after 326, because that's all Apple marketing BS. I am enjoying my 577PPI S6 Edge with 2560x1440 Super AMOLED.

They do matter, if you hold the phone three inches from your face.

You're absolutely right. Never have I heard anyone complain that their iPhone was too thick, even at the time of the first iPhone. Battery life on the other hand? Every iPhone owner I ever met complained about that.

I don't get the complaining about battery life... My issues with that on phones went away when I ditched android, as it did for my friends and family who switched with me.

Not at all implying you're wrong, just offering that I've had the exact opposite experience on the 5 and then the two years I've had a 5S.

Well, if that's what he's saying, then it's a stupid response and not a reasonable nor rational solution to the concern I raised.

Another member already 'touched' on this:
Yeah, my concern too. Sometimes, in real life usage, when you're trying to handle the phone with one hand, a stronger press might be done. Now, this will lead to a different result.
