I don't really understand why anyone cares that the base is still 16GB... How does it really affect anyone that is complaining about it? If you don't want a 16GB model, don't buy it. Everyone who is complaining that they need 32GB for minimum can now get the 64GB model for the same price the 32GB was previously. So you're getting double the capacity for the same price you previously bought the 32GB for (5S and before).

If you really want to make a statement, vote with your wallet. Don't buy it. When Apple sees little to no demand for a 16GB, they'll eventually get the message. The 16GB models still being around tells me that there is still a huge market for them and it's clearly not everyone that is complaining that are buying them. 16GB doesn't do it for me so I bought the 128GB, it's a pretty simple solution. But just because some people dislike the current base capacity doesn't mean it shouldn't be available to all those that clearly still find it acceptable. It's called options, and you all have them.

16GB base = once again NO new iphone for me... My 4S is still good but i'm planning on getting a new one within the year. I could wait till iPhone 7 but I need at least 32GB, and I'm not planning on spending more than 700 euros.

I'm getting myself an Android (Xiaomi Mi4) if Apple disappoints again till then. Sorry.
Are you really so cheap that you cannot afford paying a little more for what you want?! Come on! 16G is for people who wanted it good and cheap, mainly cheap!

Not everybody needs a 32 GB phone. If you don't want a 16 GB phone, you don't have to buy one. That solves all the complaining from those who don't want a 16 GB phone in the first place.

In regards to iCloud storage, is really beneficial for one being able to free up more space on a device, when said storage doesn't allow for selective sync? I don't think so.

It's a business decision. Apple knows how many base configuration 16GB iPhones they sell. Presumably, they can also determine how many people who buy those upgrade to a higher storage version of the same iPhone or a subsequent model. So they can decide what makes more sense in terms of financial return. As an Apple shareholder, I'll complain when that strategy no longer works.

That doesn't mean that I fully buy into Phil Schiller's argument that the availability of cloud storage lessens the need for local storage. For that to work you need full time, high bandwidth connectivity, which isn't available to many. Still, for some people, 16GB is sufficient. Personally, I always get the highest capacity - I'm aware that I have to pay a premium to do so, but that's pretty much the case with all Apple's products.

I find it unbelievable we haven't seen a storage bump in the low segment since the original 8 GB iPod touch was bumped to 16 GB for the same price (2008).

You still need to get the content on the device before you can upload it to the cloud...
Correct and while I do agree with others that the new iPhones should come with 32GB, you have to realize that Apple expects you to use iCloud and/or Music which will not take up any space. For the consumer that uses only these services and will never store stuff on their iPhone the 16GB is plenty enough. You may not agree with this but for the majority this is a reality.

Except for a 32 GB base model I'd like to see a (if possible) more scratch resistant screen. It seems like the screen iPhone 6 (and I presume 6 Plus too) quite easily gets scratched for some reason. More so than previous iPhones.
cuz there is no bezel on the side to protect the screen.

How much space do you need for 4k video, I think 16 gigs is the limit, right ?

Well chances are very good you'll be on your way to Android. People have been complaining about the 16GB size since iPhone 4. Doesn't look like Apple's budging.

Well, I know I am not the one raising a hissy fit here about Apple not increasing the storage of their phones. I knew I needed 64 GB of storage on my iPhone, I willingly paid for it and it's serving me very well.

This whole thread essentially boils down to people wanting to save a bit of money and whining that they have a spend a little more. Like I said - just drop the 16 GB model and raise the price to $299 on contract. Don't want to pay? Then just don't get an iPhone. At least Apple can't be accused of not including sufficient storage in their devices.
no it boils down to apple wanting to gouge customers with a tiny 16gb base model and a good 64gb upgrade model.

the price of tech inherently comes down and thus the specs increase of the same price.

It's ridiculous that my base model iPod from 10 yrs ago has more storage than an iPhone 10 yrs later.

Apple has probably the best fan base, forcing an update to the 64Gb model for 100$.
"Oh boy! Take my money that's a sweet deal"

Apparently people think 16Gb is enough in '15.
I'm with them, let's in fact get the 8Gb line up, most still love that!

I for one wouldn't have gotten to a 64Gb if only the iPhone 6 had 32Gb as the base model, but business is business. Defending that greed on forums is just wow.

buying the 64gb is exactly what apple wants.

16gb is there is to force people to get the next-tier.

I honestly don't understand the hate. If you want more storage, buy more storage. You just want more storage at the same price point. Apple also wants you to have more storage, which is why the 16GB model is the base entry point, they want your extra $100. At this point, you need to think of the 16GB model as truly entry level. When you go to the dealership to buy a car, the base model is missing a lot of features that are almost considered standard by 2015. Keyless entry? That's extra... Power windows / door locks? That's extra. I tell my parents to buy the 16GB model because that's all they need. For the rest of us, there is the 64GB.

I don't get it either.

It's like buying the the 11" MacBook Air and complaining it's 2" too small, if that's the case then you should have bought the 13" model; here are all sorts of people the will say the 11" inch screen isn't big enough, but plenty of people who say that it's fine for them.

I've got a friend who just does the basics on his iPhone, he honestly could probably get away with the 8GB model (heck, he could probably get away with not having an iPhone). My mom has a 16GB iPad, but she could use some more space, the photos and games went through that space pretty quick.

That said, I'll be pretty happy when they make 32GB the standard, when the "entry" level is nicer...

People could probably channel their "rabid 16 GB rage" into just saving the extra $100.

However, now that there's Apple Music => no more music on your device, it means more space for apps, pics and videos.

Streaming is no good when you're on a 15 hour flight with no wifi. You're going to have to start deleting apps, pics and videos if you want to have some offline music. Oh, those pics are all your vacation photos that you couldn't upload to the cloud before the flight home because the hotel wifi was crap? Too bad.

Apple believes that the cloud is the answer to everything, hence them still offering a minuscule 16 GB as the base. But the cloud isn't the answer. Not as long as we have limited data plans and situations where we simply do not have reliable internet access, or internet access at all.

not possible. not all 8gb (or 16gb) is available to the user. Just installing the OS after a fresh wipe takes up 1gb alone.

We need Taylor Swift to help us.

Bravo.... and I dont care. See how it goes. That Xiomi phone is like not even comparable to the 6s so this is a non sequitur too. Go somewhere were they will pat you on the back (sic) for this "super" buy. BTW, I don't believe one second price is the only factor, you'd have bought that Chinese phone regardless.

The reason people are mad is because Apple makes a huge profit by making the base model uncomfortably small in terms of storage in 2015. The steps up to 64gb & 128gb of flash storage is not even close $100 either, so basically Apple is forcing us into stuffing their pockets a bit more.

Right, but that's business. Every company has a step piece or lost leader. Most people here are saying that base model should have 32GB. Be honest about it, chances are that's they would buy right? When there's no reason to go bigger. I'm just speaking from a business standpoint.

Cracks me up people are getting so upset that Apple offers a 16GB option, and amazing that people let a company have so much power over their feelings.
