For the people complaining about the 16GB and attempting to make a point that 4K takes up too much space. Did it ever occur to any of you that Apple may not put 4K in the baseline iPhone? They could very well release the 4K phones with storage starting at 64GB so there may not necessarily be an entry-level 4K iPhone.
that would be even more pathetic

Looks to me like you just made the "Apple is entitled to get more money for the same amount of storage as 2009's iPhone 3GS, because people are paying for it" argument.

If it's true that the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus sales are being driven primarily due to larger screen size, then it stands to reason that if Apple doesn't add some truly revolutionary tech to the 6S (force touch isn't it), then given the same base storage amount of 16 GB, people will simply be buying the older and cheaper 6 and 6 Plus (or 6C... if Apple's foolish enough to name it that, considering what it's a phonetic slang for in Chinese)
I made the 'Apple is entitled to make as much profit as they want' argument. If their current business model is not one that current or potential customers agree with, Apple will need to make necessary changes or take a huge personal and financial hit.

Apple doesn't owe people a 32 BG base model, just because people think they should because they are rich already, or because company X is providing a better base model.

If one isn't happy with the offering of a particular Apple product, don't buy the product. It is that simple. Complaining about not having a base model that one wouldn't have used to begin with makes no logical sense.

So far nothing really exciting in this new model, which is hard to believe. Usually there's 1 wow factor. On the S model

The cloud service for photos sucks! and we still have many settings that confuse the user. So no! we can't rely on the could services and say we are good to go with a 16gb entry model. Btw just the iMovie app is 700MB by itself!

We will have to wait for iPhone 7 to have standard 32GB then. The current iPhone 6 16GB is too small and the 64GB is too expensive.

The step from 16 to 64GB is too big, we need to start at 32GB or have the 32Gb option again.

They only make the 16gb because people buy it.

If you stop buying it, they'll stop making it, is that simple.
This would only work if you stopped buying iPhones completely. If you "stop buying the 16GB model" and buy the 64GB instead, that will just push them to keep the 16GB longer since they made an extra $100 off it. The best way to have an iPhone and make them stop with the 16GB models would be to BUY the 16GB model and show them that you won't spend the extra money.

I honestly don't understand the hate. If you want more storage, buy more storage. You just want more storage at the same price point. Apple also wants you to have more storage, which is why the 16GB model is the base entry point, they want your extra $100. At this point, you need to think of the 16GB model as truly entry level. When you go to the dealership to buy a car, the base model is missing a lot of features that are almost considered standard by 2015. Keyless entry? That's extra... Power windows / door locks? That's extra. I tell my parents to buy the 16GB model because that's all they need. For the rest of us, there is the 64GB.

Or you know stick with Android. You misunderstand the market here. It is not reality iphone vs fantasy iphone, it is reality iphone versus many reality Android phones many of which come with 32Gb and cheaper than the iphone.

Sure - leave the 16GB as base model - but knock down the price. And stop ripping people off for memory upgrades

16GB base = once again NO new iphone for me... My 4S is still good but i'm planning on getting a new one within the year. I could wait till iPhone 7 but I need at least 32GB, and I'm not planning on spending more than 700 euros.

I'm getting myself an Android (Xiaomi Mi4) if Apple disappoints again till then. Sorry.

Good for you and Apple doesn't care.

So the better logic is that Apple should only improve their phones to prevent upsetting customers or to keep from taking a financial hit? What? That's a horrible stance to have as a so-called innovator, and I don't see how any consumer could agree with that.

Upgrading the base storage would cost Apple very little in the grand scheme of things, and only make consumers happier. Yes, they are a business. But that shouldn't be an excuse to purposely nickel and dime customers, even a fraction of them.

Again, Apple is a business. A corporation. A huge one. An immensely rich one. They will make a crap load of money no matter what they do in this situation. So why defend them? They don't need it. Why WOULDN'T you want to demand more, especially when it's very reasonable? We're not asking for free iPhones here.

ok, seriously, show of hands: who buys the base model anyway? if it was 32gb, would it really be appealing to many people here? 64gb or up is the way to go if you're someone who cares about phones the way MR commenters do.

I have a 32GB iPhone 5, and I do feel like it's not enough, so even if Apple did start with 32GB 6S(+) model, I will most likely go with a 64GB device anyway.
I just wish it was a bit cheaper.

I did not state or infer, that Apple should only improve if the consumer base rebels.

If Apple went with a 32 GB base, that would be fine with me, just like the 16 GB base. I see no need to get mad and throw hate Apple's way, just because they continue to keep a 16 GB base phone.

I want to see Apple continue to be successful and create products that I want to use. Ranting and raving about Apple keeping a base model that is currently working for them, seems pointless to me.

I am free to walk away from Apple at any time. If I come to find I need a 64 GB phone, that model is available to me, as is the 128 GB.

I am defending Apple's right to run their company as they see fit (within the law) and to make as much money as they can. Apple hasn't done anything wrong by continuing to offer the 16 GB base, even though many here are trying to paint that kind of picture.

This is simply the "best" choice for Apple from a profit perspective. Like it or not businesses generally don't operate on anything resembling human ethics. User experience is considered in the context of its impact on sales, not due to a desire to make users happy.

-The average user will likely be limited by 16GB in 2015, but would be "comfortable" with 32GB.
-Setting the base model storage at a level that many people will find limiting sells capacity upgrades.
-A base model storage level that most users are comfortable with destroys upgrade sales and requires a price increase to hit the same targets.

We'll see a 32GB base model from Apple when one of two things happens:
-Apple sees a reduction in sales which they attribute to this capacity issue (hard to track, unlikely to happen anytime soon), or:
-The average storage usage of the device by mainstream consumers is perceived to significantly exceed 32GB. Anonymous data collection probably includes the device's storage availability (at minimum because this data may be relevant to some crashes/etc).

Apple's competitors have pushed things like larger base capacity and expandable storage as an attempt to differentiate from iOS devices, but in a world where Android manufacturers took market share first they'd likely be doing the same thing Apple is now.

Whether these kinds of decisions hurt Apple's image in the long term is harder to assess. Obviously they think that the shift to streaming music will offset the risk of people becoming frustrated with the base models, and I'd agree that if there was no backlash to the 6/6+ they're probably safe for this gen too.

Profit is not a dirty word... Charge what ever the market will bear... That's how all businesses work.

I agree that they are not doing anything "wrong" per say, but just because it's legal and working, I also wouldn't state that what they're doing is "right" either. There was that fiasco with the cable companies who, after Google Fiber came into the picture, were found to be offering speeds to their customers much lower than they could afford. Without the pressure and the demand that it caused, I don't think we would have ever seen speeds reach 100mbps.

Again, I am going to demand more from one of my favorite companies when I feel they are not delivering what they are capable of providing. I was fine with a 16GB base model for a while, but I now feel that they are capitalizing on it too much, and now I want to see change.

Clearly I'm not alone either, and while I respect the fact that Apple knows how to run their company best, I'm not going to sit by and wait for them to decide when we see change and improvements on something that they are lagging behind in.

Funny how some of these people say stuff like: ''if you want more storage, buy it".

Like a €700 phone isn't expensive enough. "No, I'll spend €100 more to double the storage, which Apple pay €5 for...''

I can't understand how some people here can defend Apple in cases like these. But now, I do understand where terms like "sheeple" come from.

There is absolutely no logical reason why the base model is still 16gb. Every other phone manufacturer makes 32gb their base model. Its 2015 Apple.

Once again I'll be forced to get the 64gb.

Apple knows that as soon as they make the base model 32GB, people will complain that 32GB is too small.

They will probably up the base to 32GB when they can move the entire line: 32GB, 128GB, 256GB.

Or they could do it for the 6S, and this rumor could turn out to be false.

When Apple announces the iPhone 7.. Tim will walk, stop, face the camera and while holding the pointer in his hand clutched near the center of his chest, "And the base model will now have 32gb of memory" **huge applause from the audience** -->even though the announcement is considerably late.
