If that's the case, it looks like each model will then have basic functionality regardless – obviously if you have a valid account etc etc. As far as VZW whitelisting, isn't that the reason the Verizon Activation page (linked) exists? I can enter my current T-Mo iPhone 6 info in there and it says it should work fine–I just need a valid account.

I think it's the situation of the tradeoff between the fringe situations of having LTE Band 30 (for when/if ATT offers it in your region in the future) and CDMA fallback (for when VZW doesn't have LTE in your region and you need to make a voice call).

Maybe the T-mo 168x (GSM) version has both/neither?

It looks like the only one that potentially has LTE 30 AND CDMA capability is the AT&T phone.

This was so much easier with the iPhone 6 generation. My understanding of all of this is AT&T had band 30 and T-Mobile/Verizon share the same model now.

I'm almost certain last year AT&T and T-Mobile were identical (I'm actually using a "T-Mobile" model on AT&T now).

Last year Verizon, T-mobile, and AT&T had identical phones. Sprint, SIM-free, and international phones had the TD LTE bands.

This year, only AT&T gets band 30. Verizion, T-mobile, Sprint, and international phones are the A1688/7 variant. What's not yet known is what the SIM free version will be.

Exactly. And when is ATT suppose to roll out band 30? It may not even be relevant if you only keep your phone 1 year.

But, does the AT&T version have CDMA compatibility?

ATT is saying it does, just apple does not list it. We won't really know until people get their hands on it.
Ok, that's interesting. I reserved the T-Mobile/Verizon version for in-store pickup because I though the AT&T version wasn't CDMA compatible. I guess I can switch models when I get there.

If they have stock, which is unlikely to be honest.

I have a VZW account for work and AT&T account for personal / daily driver phone. Decided to pre-order the AT&T 6S. Will definitely pop in my VZW sim and check to see if I can make 1X calls. DT Chicago loop could use some Band 30 love, hopefully it is live here already.

So, I just reserved the AT&T version instead for pick up. Thanks for the help.

Well the only phone you can reserve no matter your carrier is the T-Mobile version. Everything else required current service or a new line.

A1633 shows Bluegrass cellular as one of the carriers. In that case, it will most definitely have CDMA support, since bluegrass for voice.

Awesome, guess that confirms it. Only question is whether or not Verizion will whitelist the device, but SIM swaps should work regardless

Verizon has started whitelisting sprint and tmobile iPhone 6 and 6+, so I don't see any reason this would be any different. You are correct on the sim swap though, which many have been doing up until Verizon allowed the devices to be whitelisted.

Quick question for anyone with some knowledge about this issue. I'm an ATT subscriber, but didn't want to pay the $15 upgrade fee (which I know now you can potentially get waived) along with needed my phone delivered to another address other than my home billing address.

I ordered the T-Mobile version which I was hoping would be the same as the ATT version. My question is - How great is LTE30? Will I be missing out on anything if I skip it on this generation? Thanks in advance!

You'll probably miss out on speed if you live in an urban area where they deployed LTE30
