You repeatedly sat on your 6+ in a car seat and an office chair and you think there's a flaw in the phone?

Yes, yes it is the fault of the phone. This is normal use for a device you keep in your pocket. Where is it supposed to go when I'm wearing jeans? I should take it out of my pocket every time I sit down? They should be designed to be stiff enough to take a lot more force then my butt on a padded seat.

Sorry, but why the hell would you put a phone in your back pocket? I wouldn't even do that with the strongest phone on the world. In fact, I typically avoid people doing this. xD

No, a phone belongs in your front pocket. Plain as simple. Doesn't mean it won't bend then, but if you put it in your back pocket you actually just ask for it to happen. Don't do it again, not even with a the iPhone 6s if its really as strong as how this video has shown.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not?

I'm pretty sure an iphone, especially a 6+ in the front pocket would impede the motion of walking [tested: definitely annoying in the front pocket]. Let alone when I have to walk up stairs, ride a bike or run.

I had m 3GS and 4S in my rear pocket for years with no issue.

Why would they not use this new metal in regular iphone 6's going forward? I see that it costs more, but you'd think it would be worth it not to get grief and plus I'm sure manufacturing costs on it are lower now too.

As a former machinist for many years, I can tell you that you can't "introduce" iron or any other metal into another metal during milling. It would have to be part of the aluminum alloy itself.
Interesting point. Now, we are talking very small amounts here, but yes, there are other possible sources for an iron contamination, such as how the sample was handled between being machined and being loaded into the microscope. Or it indeed comes from the alloy, but for that the data is not consistent enough on the iron.

I can't wait for them to get away from the heatsink material of aluminum. I'm tired of having to cool off my iPhone with the cars vent (can't stand vent clips) in all seasons but winter here.
so you'd rather the heat not be transferred out of the phone and instead remain in the phone, triggering CPU throttling and making your phone lag sooner?

I'm curious if Apple will even keep selling the iPhone 6/6 Plus. I can imagine the iPhone 6/6 Plus cannibalizing 6s/6s Plus sales since they look the same and some people will prefer to save money over improvements they may view as marginal. The 5s didn't have to contend with a cheaper twin brother as it was viewed as a premium iPhone over the plastic 5c, worth the extra money.

Wow, someone is trying to capitalize on one of his most popular videos. Who would have ever thought!

Seriously though. Am I the only one who think's he's doing us a favor? I haven't had and bend issues with my phone but apparently some people require an indestructible phone and Apple will definitely deliver with the 6s in that respect.

For all you doubters out there:

My 6+ bent within the first week or two of ownership. That was just from being in my back pocket sitting in my office chair or car seat. Functioned while bent for about 8 months before the touch-sensitivity of the screen started getting flaky.

Went to the Apple store, and I actually had to pay them for a new phone, even with AppleCare, for what was clearly a design flaw.

I'm with you. All you did was sit on it repeatedly. All I did was tie it to the bottom of my foot and use it as a shoe. It lasted for a while until I walked down a metal staircase! Grrrr ridiculous design!

Its just to shut up the people spreading the bendgate nonsense. Its for marketing reasons. Its Apple saying "look, we strengthened it case" even thought nobody ever really had a problem with it. Or that's my take at least.

Actually, Apple continually works to improve the materials in their phones and other devices. They developed an aluminum that is tougher and harder for the Apple Watch. Why wouldn't they start using that same aluminum in their other devices? Why does it have to be in response to some mythical bending controversy?

It would seem to me that the development of the Apple watch has been going on for several years. I would find it hard to believe that Apple would suddenly say, "Let's put the same aluminum in our new iPhone as we used on the watch because people think it bends too easily." More likely to me would be that they were looking at using the 7000 Series aluminum long before the iPhone 6 actually hit the streets.

Let's not forget that it was our own beloved MacRumors that initiated the whole "bending" sham and inspired the unbox therapy dude in the first place. Of course, who can blame them with over 500 pages of "bending" threads stoking the page count engines.

Hopefully they use a stronger Alloy in the new Apple Bluetooth Keyboards too.

I haven't had any problems with my iPhone 6 bending, but my Aluminium keyboard is pretty messed up.

Admittedly, it may have been abused :(

It's not a "sham" if people's phones are actually bending from normal usage. And they are bending...thus the change to stronger materials.

What are we even giving this hack the attention, personally his videos irk me because they have this twisting the truth elements to them, and when he destroyed that iPhone 6 on launch he stood to earn a fortune from video hits. even though there were almost no actual reports of iPhones bending he made it out like it was so easy to happen.

Guy is a shill.

I'm just waiting to see what term is chosen if the iPhone ever has an issue pertaining to water.

That already happened several years ago. There were issues with water sensors accidentally going off due to a small amount of moisture or sweat. Some went off for no good reason at all. There was a class action lawsuit about it and many people were paid out.

Uh, "WaterGate". I think President Richard Nixon was the first to initiate this Gate nonsense.

Apple denied that the iPhone 6 bent, so I can't imagine why they would use a less bendy aluminium for the iPhone 6s, unless, of course, they were lying.

Wasn't this already discussed ad annoyum in another thread. It is logical that Apple would continually improve the materials used in their products especially when they just invested so much time talking about the metal used in creating the Apple Watch. If they left that new, stronger aluminum out of the new iPhone, people would cry bloody murder that Apple were cheaping out on materials that they use in other products.

Good reporting MacRumors! Back when the casings first leaked I wondered why nobody was doing this. Just like when the retina iPhone was first rumored and nobody put the leaked display under the microscope—at least not right away—despite there being several samples in the wild.

I can understand how disappointing it would be to find your very expensive and new iPhone with a bend in it. And how difficult it would be to come to terms with the fact that you were responsible when you were doing something you personally felt would be ok, but as it turns out simply isn't. There's going to be some palpable cognitive discconence going on there and that's not an easy thing to overcome.

But trust me. Trust basically everyone except for the comparatively few people who do what you do. Sitting on your phone is risky behaviour and if it bends when you do it that is entirely your fault.
