Aluminium on my 6s Plus has been chipping on its own especially at the edges. It's appearing at the bottom of my phone all along the antenna band and now it's appearing at the top. It's also appearing around my pentalobe screw holes, lightning port and headphone jack.

I seriously think it's a manufacturing issue. Some problem with the 7000 series aluminium that's causing the edges of the aluminium to be very very easily chipped. I used my phone with a cover since Day 1 and yet this happened. I used my 6 Plus pretty much naked for the whole year and yet it hasn't chipped even though it has softer 6000 series aluminium.

Do any of you have this issue?
Hi, I have the same issue with my 6s, I bought one in December 2015, and put it in an Apple leather case almost as soon as I got it. A few months later, I decided to take of the case, and saw that the whole back of my phone was chipped. I was really frustrated by this, so I took my phone to the Apple Store, but they claimed I must have done something wrong, so I paid $200 for a replacement, only to find that a few months after getting the replacement, the back is chipped again.

You should file a complaint about it. They should refund your $200 also.

Hi! I have the exact same issue. I've already been twice to Apple, but they told me it was cosmetic damage so they won't take care of it. Can someone tell me what to do? I feel so frustrated!!! Such an expensive device to end up chipping looking this cheap....

I'm saying it may be a manufacturing defect. I emailed these pictures to an Apple specialist and she said, and I quote, it certainly doesn't look like accidental damage. Because the areas where all the micro chippings are appearing are areas that are least likely to come into contact with a hard surface. If it's MY fault, the chippings will not be in these areas where it's appearing.

So I'm sorry to burst your bubble, it most certainly ain't my fault.

Added: and btw I don't even use it naked like you. I put mine in a cover since day 1. And I dare to place it on a table because I have a rear protector. So your hostility is really unappreciated here.

My 6s also has some chippings around the lighting port, speakers and micro sim. I thought I did something wrong but now I found out that im not the only one who has this kind of problems. I have my 6s for a year now and the chippings are getting worst

Hi, I went to the Apple Store today, and they claimed that this was a 'minor cosmetic defect' that occurs normally, and didn't give me anything. I'm thinking of pursuing this with the office of fair trading in my state, which might hopefully yield some better results. Thanks for the advice anyway.

Its normal that they say that. Its just normal wear and tear which doesn't have an impact on the usability of the device. Samsung or any other manufacturer will say the same

And here I thought the chipping on my silver 6s is because of me! Is the 7 have this problem as well?

I think it's early to say since alot of people started having this issue around 1 year of usage. As for my iPhone 7 I haven't seen anything like that for the 1 month since I've owned it. But then again I wrap my mine in dbrand skin and plan to keep it that way.

Hello I am from Mumbai having same issue could you say where you went and which service centre and which service provider?

Thanks for the advice, I took it back to the Apple store where I got the replacement and they said it was 'typical cosmetic damage'. Funny, because I have an iPod touch 5, iPhone 5 and iPad Air 2, all with supposedly weaker aluminium, yet none of them have the same problem. And when I asked for my $200 back, they said that they made no guarantee that the problem would be fixed, but I wasn't told this when I paid $200. I'll probably just keep this 6s and get a new one later this year.

Hi, I have had this problem, and got a discounted replacement from the Apple Store, but honestly it's not worth it, as the corrsion had reoccurred in my new phone.
[doublepost=1489879991][/doublepost]Would anyone happen to know an Apple email address to file a complaint at? I've searched the website but have been unable to find one.

pretty sure mine is worse (iphone7+) never dropped

I believe the chipping is due to a rare flaw that happens in the anodization process that doesn't reveal itself until later. It doesn't matter what color you have

I got my iPhone 6s+ for 2 years now, and it has seriously not even a scratch anywhere on it.
Wow, .. i dunno if i am lucky or what..

Does this also happen to the silver 7 plus or is it only all the other colors???

The chipping/flaking can happen to any anodized aluminum iPhone. It's likely a batch that was not cured properly with temperature causing it to happen. So it's not a specific iPhone color or model.

Hello everybody, I want to make a contribution to this forum because I am quite frankly pissed off at this problem that's clearly Apple's fault. What's worse is the responses that you get for bringing up this issue, that includes other people and Apple Stores. I went to the Apple store and I got a guy that was rude and dismissive, he didn't bother looking at my scratches and just assumed I was an idiot trying to get an easy replacement. Despite all this, I persisted and just today, I managed to get a replacement! It's an extremely frustrating problem because no one takes it seriously, always telling you that its your fault you got that chipping when in reality, many of us users are pretty careful.

I got a replacement by going through the Apple Support team and requesting the engineers to see the problem instead of going to the Apple Store. I also provided them a picture of a rubber case that I used to show that I protected it so it can't be my fault. The next week, someone called me and delivered beautiful news. I went to the store and they switched my phone for a fresh one in 10 mins.

You're not alone bro, i have the same problem on my iPhone6sPlus rose gold too. Mine is chipping on the back logo it is so discouraging to see :'( . i came here to search some solutions if ever have.

I wonder if perhaps Apple had a bad batch of paint or something. I believe everybody’s stories.

It’s weird to me though because my father bought his 6S Plus (SG) in March 2016 and to put it mildly, he doesn’t exactly treat his phone well. He doesn’t throw it around or anything but he’s not exactly careful with it. Dirty, grimy, sand from going to the beach, etc. He uses an Apple leather case as well. He never cleans it, so occasionally I’ll clean it for him and it looks practically brand new after I clean it. Yet, there are tons of people here who (it seems) treat their phones much better than my dad treats his and their paint is chipping. Weird!

I see that this thread was resurrected by somebody else, but I mentioned earlier in this thread that likely what happened, is it could be a certain amount or a batch of iPhones that we're not cured properly with the anodizing, which is causing the flaking later on. It's likely a very small minority, but it depends when they were manufactured.

My question is, what's triggering the flaking to occur later on? Perhaps moisture getting in under the case or a reaction from somebody touching it with their hands.
