Aluminium on my 6s Plus has been chipping on its own especially at the edges. It's appearing at the bottom of my phone all along the antenna band and now it's appearing at the top. It's also appearing around my pentalobe screw holes, lightning port and headphone jack.

I seriously think it's a manufacturing issue. Some problem with the 7000 series aluminium that's causing the edges of the aluminium to be very very easily chipped. I used my phone with a cover since Day 1 and yet this happened. I used my 6 Plus pretty much naked for the whole year and yet it hasn't chipped even though it has softer 6000 series aluminium.

Do any of you have this issue?
What apple tell you about your phone! My phone have the same problem :( and i use a case.

I am still in contact with the apple guys for a few months now and still not getting a replacement. I've asked around and realised most people with this issue are those using Spigen or apple cases. Since I cannot get a replacement, i was wondering if any of you using other brand cases that cause the same problem. Might be because the iphone is poorly produced and together with whatever chemical is used to make the brand phone case, this problem happens. Not very sure either but i do know that this is definitely a comestic issued caused by the product and should be under warranty. apple guys kept blaming it on the phone case issue. anyone using tech21, uag, otterbox, lifeproof, ringke or other phone cases with the same problem?

I doubt it's the case. They have some defective ones out that should be replaced for free and not with refurbished phones. Apple needs a good lawsuit to straighten them out over this.

I know this isn't exactly what you're asking, but just in case it helps...

I have a 6s Plus in space grey. I'm constantly changing between about half a dozen no-name cases I bought from eBay and I don't have any problems.

I've got tpu cases, hard plastic cases etc.

Hi, same thing happening to my iphone 6s plus :( im using k11 bumper from thanotech.

I'm currently using the Spigen Tough Armor Tech and have zero chips on my 6S Plus Space Gray model. Not to mention that I do take off the case once a week to give it a clean and still in pristine condition. I think it depends on what case materials is made off. I always use TPU materials and never had any issues with them.

So, this is how my phone looks after 6 months. I've been using a dBrand skin, took it off 3 days ago.
Such a lovely pattern, the next owner will love it for sure. -.-

I am so glad my phone doesn't do that.

Here are a few pictures of my black iPhone 6s Plus that I got in October 2015.

I remote linked them rather than include them, since this thread is more about the chipped ones. But, I am just astounded how much some phones are chipped and damaged. Mine really seems to be as fresh looking as the day I got it. Minus the smudges because I clean it poorly. Little note: I use the Apple leather case as my only protection. I use my phone constantly. It's always (without anything else) in my right pocket, no the left of me on a table, and I use it in tripods, timelapses, I unfortn. had to use it in the rain so it got rained on a couple of times. It's not like I am super mega careful or rarely use it. It's my main computer in my pocket almost. Best of luck to those with damaged phones. I hope you find a factory defect with it and can get it exchanged (cheaty way)

I also have this with my iPhone 6s Space Grey. I think it is because i used a CAPDASE alumu armor with rubber.
I dont see this on iPhone 6. I think this is a problem with the S series.

Hello, i am experiencing the same problem, my phone is chipping off,
[doublepost=1474269808][/doublepost]
I have the same problem. When I asked about it at Apple Service Center in SM North EDSA here in the philippines, they gave me the Apple Care Hotline numbers that will connect me to apple singapore service center because when it comes to cosmetic issues, the ASC of singapore will be the one who will decide if I am going to leave it and they will (maybe) replace it at the ASC here in the philippines.
(The attached photo shows the apple care hotlines)

Hi im Jett, i am facing the same issue. Im interested to know what happened to your unit. Was it replaced? Thank you in advance!

hi guys,

I have successfully managed to get a replacement after more than half a year of bugging apple. After they told me about 3 to 4 times that they are unable to replace because it is not covered under warranty, I just simply told them that I do not need a replacement, I just want a sound explanation to the issue. Kept bugging them for an explanation of what was causing the corrosion like things and after a few weeks, they made a 30day window exception for me to get it replaced even though they didn't give me an explanation. very sketchy but I didn't demand an explanation in case they deny me of the replacement. the tip is to constantly hound them and provide them with links to the issue (like the new article someone above posted) and make sure they know that you know what is going on and that you're not a noobie. they will most likely replace for you because it is actually an apple problem just that they are not explicitly acknowledging it.

I'm saying it may be a manufacturing defect. I emailed these pictures to an Apple specialist and she said, and I quote, it certainly doesn't look like accidental damage. Because the areas where all the micro chippings are appearing are areas that are least likely to come into contact with a hard surface. If it's MY fault, the chippings will not be in these areas where it's appearing.

So I'm sorry to burst your bubble, it most certainly ain't my fault.

Added: and btw I don't even use it naked like you. I put mine in a cover since day 1. And I dare to place it on a table because I have a rear protector. So your hostility is really unappreciated here.

Your phone should definitely not look like that and if you have an Apple Store close I'd take it back for sure!

EDIT: damn post was last year

Recently I bought an iPhone 7, I hope this doesn't have the same problem on the aluminium, like my last iPhone 6S. Basically I have renewed this because of that problem.
If the problem appears in my iPhone 7 I post here.

That doesn't solve your 6S problem.
This year instead of selling I am giving my 6S Plus to my girlfriend in order not to sell it like 100€ under the fair price just because of this stupid aluminum chipping.

I wish I had an Apple Store here in Portugal, I would bug them everyday. But there's no official stores in Portugal, all I can do is call them and they ask me to go to the nearest premium assistance store in order to show them my phone. Of course they always tell me it's an aesthetic issue and they can't do anything about it.

It's very annoying that they don't want to take responsibility for this. This is what my iPhone 6s looks like. I tried talking with support a few times and they keep saying it's a cosmetic issue and they are not aware of any manufacturing defect. Last time they hung up on me mid-sentence even though I was perfectly polite. I pointed to this forum thread and they said we don't care about rumor forums.

What a sleazy, disgusting company Apple has become! :(
