"For some definition of everyone that isn't everyone."

Even when taken into context, that was broken English. It wasn't an insult. I genuinely could not understand what you were trying to say.

Ah, the construction 'for some definition of ...' is common parlance in my professional circles. Apologies that the intent wasn't clear.

But yes, I support what you were trying to say. I've owned 4-5 iPhones and never scratched any of them by the charging port. I'm meticulous when it comes to plugging my phone in.

Indeed. I think a lot of people have unreasonable expectations when it comes to their devices. They'll sit on them (eg. keep them in their back pockets), toss them on the counter or in their cupholders in their cars, allow grit to build up in their cases (to be fair, though, I don't know how you avoid this without constantly removing the case and cleaning everything, ugh), and, in general, treat them like a tv remote and then get upset when they don't look perfect after months of that kind of handling.

My regimen: no case and treat it with deliberate care (dedicated front pocket, don't set it on hard surfaces, don't drop it, etc). Holds up beautifully until I'm ready to purchase the next year's model.

same with mine
gold launch day 6s Plus

Gold iPhone 5s was nice for awhile until I realized there is a reason some people working in Apple referred to it as the Kim Kardashian iPhone. White and gold or pink and white is more catered for the females or anyone who love to be pretty in pink. I think Samsung, Huawei, HTC, LG, and Asus have come up with better looking gold options for their phones. The gold M8 and Mate 7 or 8 look better to me than any gold iPhone. I prefer black and gold since white and gold is more something you would see nice in a woman's handbag.

Black and red is actually my favorite dual tone scheme because I think like a Sith. Or gold and red like Iron Man. I also grew up with Michael Jordan's Bulls. When I watch videos, I do prefer a black front panel. The only advantages with white iPhones especially if Apple decides to return to glass for iPhone 8 is it hides fingerprints the best. For white, I only like the silver one because white & silver doesn't seem as feminine. It looks a little boring but more understated than gold and rose gold. I used a glacial silver One M7 and that off-white/silver dual color scheme was great. Didn't show fingerprints on the back.

The best phone that won't get dirty as fast is white and silver. Silver or dark gray don't show dirt or fingerprints easily. That's the neutral colors between black and white. But since I am someone who prefers to watch videos on a black panel, space gray is really my only option. White / silver would be my second choice only to see the ring around the home button. But seeing my cousin use his silver iPhone 5, I probably would grow tired of that color quickly like the gold 5s I had. Actually, slate iPhone 5 looks better to me than space gray 5s/SE but it didn't hold up as well with abuse.

Just got my launch day iPhone 6S Plus replaced today by Apple for this problem.

Apple did initially say my warranty was void, and that I had somehow caused the bizarre corrosion/chipping around the headphone and lightning ports, as well as on the lettering and Apple logo on the back - but I carefully explained over the phone that I'd kept the phone in a case for the entire time I'd had it, and that the rest of the phone was pristine. Person on the other end was quite agreeable and put my replacement through for free under warranty, as it should be.

Quite odd that Apple doesn't immediately recognise any phones coming into their repair centres with this chipping/corrosion problem as a manufacturing problem, and not something the user has caused. Seems like they'd have fixed quite a lot of phones with this issue by now.

I NEVER had this problem with Apple products (since 2009), only with the recent iPhone 6s and Magic Keyboard :S

Are they using the same type of aluminum? That's interesting. I think he phone uses 7000 series Al

I got my 6s space gray almost 20 days ago and I've already noticed little chipping on the edges of the phone between the display and the aluminum... should I take it to an Apple store?

the chipping are like two or three, very small but I'm worried about more chipping appearing later on...

wow, I replaced my phone due to chipping problems, but now its coming back again?? honestly not looking forward to a worsening condition few months later

Aluminium on my 6s Plus has been chipping on its own especially at the edges. It's appearing at the bottom of my phone all along the antenna band and now it's appearing at the top. It's also appearing around my pentalobe screw holes, lightning port and headphone jack.

I seriously think it's a manufacturing issue. Some problem with the 7000 series aluminium that's causing the edges of the aluminium to be very very easily chipped. I used my phone with a cover since Day 1 and yet this happened. I used my 6 Plus pretty much naked for the whole year and yet it hasn't chipped even though it has softer 6000 series aluminium.

Do any of you have this issue?

Very interesting. The chips give the pink color some character, I think. Otherwise, it reminds me of the color of my little sister's toy doll castle.

I'm from Singapore as well, got my iPhone 6s in January this year. As you can see, the edge of my Apple logo has corroded/chipped. The bottom of my phone is also affected by this problem. I am using Spigen Neo Hybrid 2014 and Moshi iGlaze Armour cases.

I bought a brand new rose gold 6s. The first chip appeared 15 days later and theyve spread like a virus around the headphone jack, antenna bands and the sim tray. All edges basically. I've tried to get it replaced. Since there's no apple store in pakistan applesupport referred me to an ASP who recognized the issue but said this can't be replaced in warranty. I've called apple support in the US and they had no mail-in option outside the US. So now im stuck with a brand new $700 iPhone 6s.

Never had any chipping issue with any iPhone except the iPhone 5 black and slate. Got my 6S on launch day.

Well, so this seems to be a wide spread issue now, and now you look at my phone. I just don't know what to do now. I am using apple original case with my phone, and still this has happened. This is what I saw on my phone, when I removed the case a few days before, to replace my sim card! I went to the nearest apple authorized premium service outlet. (I am from india, and sadly, we don't have direct apple service centers here). The guys there were not even willing to listen to what I am saying, and they keeps on saying the same usual slogan "cosmetic damage is not covered". They were not willing to accept the fact that this is a manufacturing defect, the bad anodization done with impurities, which is leading to oxidation and ultimately to these chippings. I am pretty sure that by this time, these service guys have got plenty of similar case like this with iPhone 6s and they seems like they are deliberately pretending like as if they have never even heard anything like this! If you look at my phone, you can see the saw called "aluminum cancer" slowly eating up my phone, spreading evenly. I have got one more apple authorized service centre nearby, and i will try explaining this to them also tomorrow, as a last attempt. If i donot get any help from them tomorrow too, i may have to approach consumer courts, as I cant let my phone go away like this, which i bought paying a fortune, on the launch day itself in india, that too after a long pre-order wait time. I will update tomorrow, after visiting the service centre.

Something like that can clearly not be caused by the user it is as you stated very evenly dispersed. I feel for you I'd be pretty upset if that happened to my device. Hopefully someone will resolve that for you. I'd get in contact with support and send them those photos.

You are 100% right on this. Okay, I feel like I need to share this even if I feel like there is little to no chance that they will replace my phone even after saying this. Yesterday I was in the store, I decided to buy a film protector for the back of my phone, hoping it would prevent or somehow reduce the horrible corrosion/chipping/flaking at the back of my phone. The salesman then proceed to clean up my phone, he wipes the back of my phone with a microfiber cloth, uses an adhesive tape(its like a sticker) to remove dust and smudges, and guess what, when he used the adhesive, the coating at the back of the phone was removed/peeled! It proved that this issue is a clear manufacturing defect. They claim that their products are of high quality, and they blame this issue on us, yet this phone was easily ruined by just an adhesive tape.

P.S
I have tried using that adhesive tape on my old iPhone 4s, and my sister's 5s, no peel/damage has been done on their phones.

[doublepost=1469718443][/doublepost]And Finally!!! I got my phone replaced with a new one!! .. feeling much relieved now. I am now fully confident that I can count on apple :)
I went to the other apple authorized service center today, and showed them my phone. The tech who helped me there was so kind and polite , that she listened to me patiently and happily checked my device. She then went ahead and inspected my phone to confirm there are no other issues, like any water damage or anything like that, so that she can get my phone replaced under warranty. After verifying all, she had a quick chat with some apple support officials online, and gave me the new replacement phone right away. I am very satisfied with the support I got from the service center, and very thankful to the tech who helped me. It just took only around 20 minutes for the tech to get everything verified and swap my device. I am a happy customer now :) Hope there won't be any issues with the new one.

There must be a particular manufacturing plant that Apple is relying on that isn't doing something right. They need to check into it inwhich I bet they have and corrected the problem for new iPhones but aren't admitting anything in public.
