But instead of always having the same battery life, why can't we have better?

I'm sure it'll get better next year with the 7. Same battery size plus more optimizations in hardware/software should get us some better battery life.

Though, I'm sure Apple believes that the current battery life is all one needs for a normal day.

Because who could imagine making the phone a whole millimeter thicker to eliminate the protruding camera and actually increase battery life?
Did you not see all the people complaining about the phones being a tiny bit heavier due to the new screen? I don't even want to imagine the complaints if it would get even heavier.

Cause the device is already thicker with the new components... to have a bigger battery it'll be even thicker and heavier than it is now.

I'm sure we'd have a "heft-gate" because the internets are a******s.

As long as it has the same battery life I don't care, but... I would love for Apple to have made the phone thicker to make the camera flush. They have set a standard that will allow them to never have the camera flush again, in any future iPhone.

No surprise there...more efficient chips/OS and better screen don't need same battery for same time. Happens a lot, also seen in MacBooks all lines. Nothing to see, move along.

Does it heck. Since Apple had removable batteries in their portable line, the batteries have been getting bigger and bigger with each major revision. Over 80% of the space in a MacBook Air is battery. Coupled with CPU advancements and software optimisations, that's how they get unparalleled battery life in the industry.

It just seems ridiculous. They have the best battery life in their laptops and practically the worst in their phones. When you decrease battery capacity so you can shave off an extra atom from the thinness, yet leave a protruding camera that additional thickness would actually solve — well, that's form over function. And not even good form at that.

agreed, don't like the camera bulge... BUT most people use cases and cases generally are thicker than the bulge... so doesn't that make it fine?

The most advanced and powerful iPhone ever made with battery life on par with last year's devices? That sounds like a good compromise to me.
Every new iPhone is the most powerful iPhone ever made. So that's going to be your compromise every single year? The chips are getting more efficient each year ... so it's only logical that battery life should be similar. It should be improving ... but when you shrink the battery ... well ...

Which is odd considering, if i remember correctly, people complaining that the iPhone 6 was too light and seemed easier to drop. I could be wrong though. Don't quote me!

I would be very interested to see a battery drain test between iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S on iOS 9.

I smell something fishy with battery life claims by Apple, because it's not clear if iOS 9 is the reason why iPhone 6S matches iPhone 6 battery life, or will they both have the same battery life with iOS 9.
The reason is Apple A9 is more efficient. That is all.

I wonder too if reducing page reloading in safari tabs has also accounted for a reduction in battery save after all every time a page has to reload data it's using battery take that away and you've saved more time which washes itself out by reducing the battery size.

Phone battery tech really needs to advance already.
That's easy for you to say. What is your knowledge of the current status of the battery industry and research and development as it applies to the iPhone today? You people love to moan and groan and to demand the world without any clue as to it's feasibility. Have you ever heard of making compromises? Apple decided to make other improvements rather than increase battery capacity. In another thread I did the math and showed that the small increase in battery capacity that would make you happy would probably only give you a few extra minutes over the coarse of the day. You people really need to think before you make your knee jerk responses that almost inevitably end up being absurd and way overblown. Many of you just seem to like to embarrass yourselves with your statement rather than to step back for a moment and be logical and practical. Sheesh.

Lol ... what an unnecessarily large rant for something that was just a wish. Despite your incessant soap-boxing negativity ... I still wish for battery tech to advance. There was no hidden meaning behind what I said or a claim of knowledge regarding current battery technology. I would just really like an advancement in this area. Get a grip.

Coming from the 6, I think I am going to enjoy battery life on the 6S+. Although, I would love for Apple to make a huge advancement when it comes to battery life. iPhones were known at one point for outstanding battery life, not so much anymore.

Folks, innovation is not putting bigger batteries in devices. Innovation is draining less energy for the same tasks or bringing smaller, more efficient batteries.
