Well I prefer thinner and lighter.

Charge every night and battery life isn't a problem.

allthose A9 is more efficient claims are all taken in a vaccum. is it during peak or just being on or during gaming? we have no idea. its like the battery chart. almost no one gets 10 hrs from the 6 unless you listen with the screen off. realistically its 6.5-7.5 hrs at best.

This is untrue.

My phone (iPhone 6, iOS 9) is in constant use in a fairly demanding setting, and typically, I'm still above 60% by 6pm. That is, unless I'm in New York, Montreal, Toronto, Chicago, etc. Then it craps out by 4-5pm, at times even earlier.

My experience is that a lot of the power is still drained when it is seeking the cell towers and the WiFi signals. In my home office today as I post this, it's 2pm and it's still at 86%, and it's been constantly on, whether streaming music, emails, texts, calls, or whatever.

From my understanding, the smaller battery can support the same run time purely due to efficiencies in the components (not just the A9). Logically, any software improvements would help both the 6 and 6s equally, so a smaller battery in the 6s would still look worse if that was the only reason (unless there is a hardware change that allows for more efficiency in the software...)

So when Apple says that the iPhone 6s will have the same battery life as the 6, presumably they mean the iPhone 6 running iOS8 and the 6s on iOS9. And I would assume that iOS9 is a more efficient OS than 8. So comparing apples to apples, the new phones will have worse battery life.

Correct. Just like they claimed iPad Air 2 to have same battery life with smaller battery. It was worse.

They are already making people buy a new case. The apple cases for the 6 and 6+ do not fit the 6s and 6s+. There are different cases for those.

I thought I read somewhere that the cases would all fit both, as there was only a 0.2mm difference?

Because who could imagine making the phone a whole millimeter thicker to eliminate the protruding camera and actually increase battery life?

Can you imagine the bitching that lat year's cases wouldn't fit? The "s" release has always stuck to the same form factor, and it's important to keep it that way.

I carry a thin battery pack to charge my phone while on the go. It's very small and clips on my keys. It gives me 30% boost.
I have a Mophie case on my 5S that charges it to 100% from 0% ... but I don't want to get one of those for the 6S ... would just make the phone ridiculously huge. Will probably get an external battery for emergencies or whatever.

I would pay extra for a thicker phone and bigger battery.
As you can see from the other posts , some prefer an iPhone as thin and light as possible.

The minute difference in battery power available via a bigger/heavier battery is probably unimportant in minutes.

If you use your phone all day and have to charge it a little earlier compared to a larger battery what time
saving is that?
Nobody knows and you will eventually have to charge that larger battery too.

And, you can pay extra for a longer lasting battery (you said you would) and buy a Mophie or similar battery.

It does seem disappointing, however the A9 is an amazing piece of silicon. While it can be irratating, iOS 9 was written for A9 optimization. Only real world experiences will reveal the truth. IMO, users will need to spend a copious amount of time tweaking the multitude of options in settings to achieve nirvana. :apple:

When Apple's official pictures of the phone (in this case, the 6) remove the protruding camera, that to me rings alarm bells. It implies that the design really was contrary to Apple's standards and mentality, just because Butterblimp Jony gets a raging clue from an extra particle of thinness.

The only protruding thing from Jony Ive should be his belly.

Hahaha, you are the best.

This makes me scared for the iPhone 7. I also just don't believe apple when they say battery life will be the same. I need benchmarks.

Well you have good reason to not believe them. They also lied about the iPad mini 4 having the "power and performance of iPad Air 2".

I'm slightly worried about going from the 6 Plus battery down to the 6S battery—especially since it is even smaller now. Hopefully the improvements from iOS 9 will help offset that! The processor may be more efficient but it's also a lot faster. I hope they properly balanced it.

I think this is pretty darn lousy by Apple, and is surely driven by profits. If the electronics and OS in the new devices is a little more efficient, leave the same size battery in and let people get LONGER runtimes. No, Apple decides to scrimp on the batteries thinking that equivalent battery life is OK. NEWSFLASH....people want LONGER battery life!!!

There was a good six or seven years where you could blindly follow apple battery life claims, but they have been making **** up in a pretty obscene way these past couple of years.

The also changed the dimensions. The S is thicker and heavier.
Not enough that it can no longer fit cases made for the 6, though. So, if they reduced the battery size, it was either an arbitrary decision or the reduction meant maintaining, within a reasonable deviation, the current model's size.

Wait, you're saying a slightly smaller battery is saving them money? Or??

Folks, innovation is not putting bigger batteries in devices. Innovation is draining less energy for the same tasks or bringing smaller, more efficient batteries.

What a shill. Innovation would be increasing battery life, not using a more efficient OS and CPU, then shrinking the size of the battery so that battery life remains unchanged. People want longer battery life. Its one of the top complaints from all mobile device users. Apple had a chance here to give us that, yet they cheaped out. Gonna save a few pennies per device.

If Apple kept the battery size while increasing the thickness a bit (to the point of eliminating the camera lens bulge perhaps), people would react: Apple is greedy! They are making people buy a new case! If the new iPhones have the same real life battery life, Apple probably made the right decision.

Having said that, I would like to see long battery life on iPhone 7.

I just want A SMALL PHONE!!!! A phone should be useable with one hand only. Im tempted to go android to get something like the size of the 5s that I loved. I regret "upgrading" to the 6....

The 6S almost certainly costs more than the 6 to make. It's not about them being cheap, they just have bad priorities.

I've held on to my 6Plus just incase. If there's any noticeable downgrade in either screen quality, battery life or audio fidelity on the 6S Plus i ordered, i'll be promptly returning it and sticking with what i've got.
