Also have replaced my battery. Since then I have no more issues. Battery life got much better even thougt the old one was only worn out 10% (according to Apple Genius).Did it fix the issue?

more than enough for it to be an issue. If it's software, then why is it only some phones affected?
Currently using a launch day 6 plus 64GB. The same problem started after 3 or 4 months of use. Randomly shuts off anywhere south of 40%. Fires back up immediately after plunging it in with the battery meter jumping to a higher % than before the shutdown. The lower the percentage the more likely it will shut down.
Took it to the Apple Store once when it was under warranty and they said it was a software issue. Took it once when it was a little over a year old and they said the same thing. Have "set up as new" and did battery resets with no improvement. I carry an external battery with me anytime I'm going to be away from a outlet for more than a couple of hours.
I have actually noticed a small improvement with the new iOS thou.
This issue seems to be quite founded. I wonder why MacRumors or some tech website have not written anything about it yet.
It looks like Apple (or battery manufacturer) changed battery micro controller program and updated iOS to work with new micro controller. But they didn't check for compliance with old micro controllers. As the result, iOS makes wrong calculations and switches off iPhones.I doubt that it's the logic board because I personally know people whose issues were fixed by a battery replacement.

Disabling Background Apps Refresh helps.
I have an appointment tomorrow in the south east, I'll let you know the result..for the same issue but I rolled back to 10.1.1 for the purposes of the appointment. Shutdowns every day!Happened about 3 times to me today the first time was around the 50% mark. I tried to switch it on only to be greeted with the charging symbol. I was out so wasn't near a charger. About 10 minutes later I tried to switch it on again and it came on and stayed on until about 25% when it switched off again. I was outside again in the cold when this happened. I managed to get it to come back on, but it kept switching back off so I waited until I got home to put it on charge.
This has been the worse day for me so far with my 6s 64gb. I'm really hoping it's a software problem. Am using latest beta software.
Have booked a genius app, but I'm out of warranty, unless I can use my EU warranty, which is 2 years in the U.K.

even though I am out of warranty.
Yes, I know. He did mention this to me as well at the time. You are out of Apple warranty but you are still covered by EU and English consumer protection laws.
So, I went to the Apple Store and after he pulled up the case number, viewing previous chat support conversations and notes. He said "I've actually seen a lot of this with the iPhone 6S, so not exactly sure what the issue is but it's common."
He replaced the phone with another immediately and I walked out happy in less than 10mins. Let's hope the new one works fine. The replacement is pristine as expected, I gave it a good examination under the Apple Store lights and I'm very happy with the result even though I am out of warranty.
About what?Where did you get this information?
I had the same problem with my 6s (64 GB, 10.1.1). Today I went to an Apple Store and they replaced it.
The Genius told me that this is a known problem and Apple is investigating. He said that in the next few days Apple should publicly acknowledge the issue and either correct it with a software update (if they find out this is a software problem) or start a replacement program if the problem is due to defective hardware.
