Currently using a launch day 6 plus 64GB. The same problem started after 3 or 4 months of use. Randomly shuts off anywhere south of 40%. Fires back up immediately after plunging it in with the battery meter jumping to a higher % than before the shutdown. The lower the percentage the more likely it will shut down.

Took it to the Apple Store once when it was under warranty and they said it was a software issue. Took it once when it was a little over a year old and they said the same thing. Have "set up as new" and did battery resets with no improvement. I carry an external battery with me anytime I'm going to be away from a outlet for more than a couple of hours.

I have actually noticed a small improvement with the new iOS thou.

That's really unfortunate they took you for a ride like this. The guys who posted in the beginning of this topic had their phones replaced, I think one or two of them had their phones replaced twice until the issue went away.

This issue seems to be quite founded. I wonder why MacRumors or some tech website have not written anything about it yet.

They are either too ignorant or don't care because all of them are using iPhone 7 by now. Or, they are afraid that talking about an officially unconfirmed issue will undermine their relationship with Apple.

I had this same problem with my 6s and I was almost out of warranty. I sent it to apple and they replaced my battery.

I doubt that it's the logic board because I personally know people whose issues were fixed by a battery replacement.

It looks like Apple (or battery manufacturer) changed battery micro controller program and updated iOS to work with new micro controller. But they didn't check for compliance with old micro controllers. As the result, iOS makes wrong calculations and switches off iPhones.
Disabling Background Apps Refresh helps.

I just visited an apple store. the genius told me that its either the battery or the logic board. He set an appt for me.

Exactly the same problem with my 6s 64gb.
Everything was fine until I updated to iOS10 and then random shutdowns.
Shut down yesterday at 45%.
Makes the phone very unreliable.
I have sent mine back to Apple today just outside warranty.

Happened about 3 times to me today the first time was around the 50% mark. I tried to switch it on only to be greeted with the charging symbol. I was out so wasn't near a charger. About 10 minutes later I tried to switch it on again and it came on and stayed on until about 25% when it switched off again. I was outside again in the cold when this happened. I managed to get it to come back on, but it kept switching back off so I waited until I got home to put it on charge.

This has been the worse day for me so far with my 6s 64gb. I'm really hoping it's a software problem. Am using latest beta software.

Have booked a genius app, but I'm out of warranty, unless I can use my EU warranty, which is 2 years in the U.K.

I have an appointment tomorrow in the south east, I'll let you know the result..for the same issue but I rolled back to 10.1.1 for the purposes of the appointment. Shutdowns every day!

While my phone is in repairs I'm using a loaner iPhone 6, it runs 10.1.1 and so far I haven't seen any shutdowns. And I even started using Podcasts again. I'll try more heavy usage at low battery though.

Ever since I updated my 6S to iOS 10, my phone will have 12-15% battery life remaining (or so the indicator states it does) and all of a sudden will go dead. Anyone else have this issue, and how can I fix it? Again it just started doing this when I updated to iOS 10.

So, I went to the Apple Store and after he pulled up the case number, viewing previous chat support conversations and notes. He said "I've actually seen a lot of this with the iPhone 6S, so not exactly sure what the issue is but it's common."
He replaced the phone with another immediately and I walked out happy in less than 10mins. Let's hope the new one works fine. The replacement is pristine as expected, I gave it a good examination under the Apple Store lights and I'm very happy with the result even though I am out of warranty.

That sounds promising for me then. My app is at bluewater next week, so will let you know how I get on.

Same thing happens to me on my 13 months old iPhone 6s on iOS 10.2 beta.
It even happened last week-end at 50% when I was outside at 0 degrees Celsius.

It started happening this summer when I held it on a magnetic mount in my car in one of the vent holes. I quickly realized my iPhone didn't like A/C, even on the lowest settings. So I drove with A/C turned off all the time. Don't know if it's related or if it's iOS 10 ?

And yes, I find that the average battery doesn't even last a day anymore. I shut off a bunch of apps that were localizing me, a bunch of apps using cellular network, etc. and nothing works. Could it be that Apple has to do a recall about it ?

About what?
My version about battery micro controllers is just a version based on my experience and tests I did with my iPhone 6S. Only Apple can say exactly what happens.
About disabling Background App Refresh I wrote earlier in this thread. It's my workaround that works for me.

I had the same problem with my 6s (64 GB, 10.1.1). Today I went to an Apple Store and they replaced it.
The Genius told me that this is a known problem and Apple is investigating. He said that in the next few days Apple should publicly acknowledge the issue and either correct it with a software update (if they find out this is a software problem) or start a replacement program if the problem is due to defective hardware.

I've a 6+ that has being doing this, first noticed it around May which is before the first IOS10 beta was available. It pretty always happens when I'm playing golf and use a shot tracking app. Yesterday I started the round at around 90% and after 6 holes or so I noticed it was on %38. A few minutes later the low battery warning came up and the battery indicator was on 1%! The phone kept working for 15-20 minutes still on 1% but eventually died. As soon as I plugged it into power, it restarted and was immediately on 20% or so.

Just happened again at 46% in practically the same spot I was in last night, outside using a camera app. Managed to get it back on again by pressing the power switch to show the charging indicator, then leaving for about 5 mins before pressing the power switch again to switch back on. Got home and typing this message without my phone switching off again.

Am now wondering if it's a network issue that is causing an error with the battery?? Mine always switches off outside and it's not even that cold tonight (uk).

Am really hoping it's a software issue.

My 6S running 9.0.2 did this a week ago. I blamed it on using the phone outside in the colder weather. It turned off at 22%. Hard to think it's a software issue when my phone hasn't been updated or restored since October of 2015.

No, happens to my 6s at room temperature as well.
I'm one month out of warranty (but german consumer protection law).
Apple chat told me that it's either the logic board or the battery.
They want me to send it in so they can check and repair/replace the phone.
