I also had this issue. My 6s was replaced with a refurbished phine, which is rubbish (see my thread).

Did all the software stuff beforehand, nothing worked.

For those saying your problem was fixed by moving to an iPhone 7, what sense does that make? Hand over more money to a company that just screwed you over?

Have anybody try at lest once to calibrate the battery? It worked on me

What particular calibration method worked for you?

It's pretty easy. Just wait till your iPhone battery dies completely (try you do it as closer as 1% you can...) then, leave the iPhone without charging for at least 6 hours. After that, connect it to the electric outlet for other 5-6 hours and that's all. Follow this method at least once at month.

My 6S+ recently started exhibiting all the symptoms described above in relation to turning off well before device battery indicates it's "dead".

Had the same thing happen to me (latest iOS update on phone) with the battery at 45%. Randomly froze and shut off, then gave me the "you need to plug it in because the battery is so low" screen. I plugged it in for about one minute, phone boots, battery is at 45% and charging. ????

Do I need to replace the battery or could it be a problem caused by the charging mechanism or the logic board ?

Apple are aware of this issue and engineers are working hard to solve it.

I had extensive contact with Apple about this last week and they performed some hardware tests
Battery was at 92%, only 364 cycles on 1 year old iPhone 6s.

Also read Apple Community Forums on more of this as many people are affected. https://discussions.apple.com/community/iphone/iphone_hardware

I do hope that 10.1 will solve this, but remember you are not alone :)

Glad they've acknowledged it. Mine gives me some real fits here lately

I have exactly same issue of my 6s 64GB. it shuts down when it is around 43%.
I tried to switch it on and it shows the plug-in pic asking me to charge the phone.
I could turn on the phone again by plug it in. The battery displays 4X %
Then I immediately unplug it and try to use my phone for some voice call via internet until it is 13% remaining.
and It turn off again.
This time when I turn on the phone by plug in and unplug it .
It will turn off very quick after I was just finished enter my passcode.

I have exactly same issue of my 6s 64GB.
i try with: Setup as new devioce, DFU mode, Calibrating the Battery, i have the Samsung A9 model,
nothing the problem is still persist.
But when i put the battery in Low Power Mode (yellow mode).
Evrithing is goun as well.
For me is a sofware problem
I hope that 10.1 will solve this

I also had it. turned off with 30% or even 50%. Use time only 2-4 hours.

Apple told me the battery looks ok and i have to setup as new and do a icloud backup. which did not help a bit. i checked with coconut battery a few times and saw that the battery capacity status was everything from 50%-93%.

I called apple again and the secound time they sent me a new phone. Now problem solved:)

Probably just a new software feature to encourage you to buy a new phone since intentionally slowing down your device has gotten too much scrutiny.

I have this problem with my 6s as well. In fact the first time I experienced it was in the spring. I did some research and connected it to what I think was another problem, that of 6s battery indicator not updating. I did a hard reset, it seemed to work fine, then also iOS 9.3 arrived and I thought the issue was fixed altogether, indeed I have not seen another shutdown at 10-20% of battery remaining.

After recently updating to iOS 10 the problem came back. It seems that when at low battery if I'm running a resource intensive process like Podcasts refresh or stream music from the internet to wireless headphones, the phone is prone to shutting down.

The weird thing is, if I plug it in for a minute while restarting I'm then able to continue to use it and run the battery down a little bit more until another shutdown. If I switch the Low Power mode on I'm even able to go down all the way to 1% and a true low battery shutdown.

Now not sure whether it's a software issue and can be fixed with a software update or is iOS 10 just more power hungry and exacerbates the hardware fault... This worries me because a) I'm currently not in the country I bought my iPhone from (different model in case of possible replacement - do not want) b) out of warranty c) even if I complain I have no way of demonstrating the issue in a quick way d) I don't want to change my phone since all my banking apps are set on this one and it would be a pain, I'd probably lose access for weeks/months.

I used to have this same issue as well. I have an iPhone 7 plus now so I am no longer dealing with that issue. Hopefully Apple fixes it. I would think it's a software issue but who knows.

Now the same problem developed on my GFs iPhone 6. We live together and both only use original apple chargers and charge in my BMW which is also cetified.

What gives???

Before thinking my issue was solved with the recalibration I did, the problem appeared two days ago again. Yesterday, boring and thinking seriously to call to Apple, I decided to do the last thing before acting and it was to restore it like a new device to avoid having the issue from the backup. It's a hard work because I had to set up all the device (mail account, contacts, to see what apps to install....). If it's not to solve my problem, I'll call to Apple in order to pick my phone up because then I don't think it's a software problem but a hardware one (specifically battery). The additional problem I have it's that on next week I must get my new Apple Watch 2, but if Apple picks up my phone, I'll be without it at least 10 days which I have my watch without using it at all.... that's a shift. Yesterday I was thinking in the chance to cancel my order, sell the iPhone and to go to live in the mountains hahaha

This happened to my 6S twice this weekend. On both occasions I was outside. The first, I was cycling and the phone was attached to the handle bars. Weather about 15C, battery 35%.

Then today it happened just after I finished a 10k run. Bit colder but phone has been in my running belt and was probably warmer than the day before. 50% battery.

Anyway, turning it on resulted in the charge graphic but pressing the hard reset buttons got it to restart. It would then shut down within a few seconds. However, on the third attempt I was quick and shut it down using the slider graphic before it could shut down itself.

And it stayed on when I started it up again from there.

Btw this has happened before on older phones maybe 2 or 3 times. As I recall I have either been walking or running or cycling each time. And it has never been warm weather.

Interesting to see this.
I came looking around here, since this started happening to me 3 weeks ago and has been an issue ever since.

According to coconutBattery my iPhones battery must be seriously degraded.
Did the calibration, but to no avail. (I can't even let the device run down to 1% as it'd usually shut down somewhere between 10-30%).

I calibrated my 6s on Sunday, at first everything seemed to be going well but today it died at 30% :( As always, after that happened I plugged it in for a minute and switched the low power mode on. It worked for several hours after that and I plugged it in again when the battery indicator reached 1%. I have then tried to reset all settings but am not sure if it helped. I definitely wasted some time setting it again the way I’m used to, so please let us know if restoring as new does any good.

Here is my screenshot. The battery does not seem to be corrupt.

Hi,

Definitely it didn't work. After that, my battery died at 10%. I've done a last calibration process because of the last one gives me the chance to use it in good condition for 2 weeks. Today I'm gonna dry it seriously. If it doesn't work either, probably I'll call to Apple to make an appointment for checking it.

I hope don't need to do it because the closest store is to almost 3,5 hours by driving.
