I have read my threads on this issue, even ones dating back to the iPhone 4 and I rarely read that anyone was able to completely fix this issue with a restore or calibration.

I had this issue on my iPhone 5, 6 and 6S and as far as I remember, it was fixed on the five with a battery replacement and on the 6 and 6S through a replacement.

I am not 100% sure that a battery replacement will always fix this issue thought.

This problem affected me for the first time today. iPhone 6S 64GB. Battery got down to 17% and then switched off. Tried to turn on and got 'plug in' display. Tried to turn on again and it switched on but then dies about 5 seconds after loading up.

Out of warranty last month, so hopefully a battery replacement isn't needed and a future software update will fix it :(

I'm almost 100% sure that a replacement would fix it. If this night, after a calibration process it came back to happening again... I'll go at store next weekend for sure.

Hi friend,

Why did you say "out of warranty" if you're talking about an iPhone 6S? It supposes it was sold one year ago and the warranty time are two years! I guess I'm missing something

Only one year of warranty unless you buy apple care.
But I would still try, they sometimes make exceptions

Apple just released iOS 10.1 and any solved battery issues is shown on it so... I'm afraid the next step is to go at a closest store.

I'm afraid you're wrong my friend with that affirmation. Apple warranty is two years. I'm sure about that. I've a really good friend who just 1 month left to end his two years of warranty (without any Apple care), he went to an Apple Store with a problem in his iPhone and he got a refurbished iPhone in return in the same moment. I'm seriously my friend. My advice is that you take your iPhone and go at an Apple Store.

I don't want to make myself illusions but my % is 8% right now... I'm using the iPhone conscientiously by changing among apps constantly, seeing YouTube videos and something like that...

Ed: 7% at the end of these lines... I'm crossing my fingers

It’s worth asking in any case but the warranty depends on the country. I think 1yr warranty is basically a policy guaranteed by Apple. Above that it depends on the consumer protection laws of the country of purchase.

I am having an express replacement sent to me for an iPhone 6S. It has 80% battery capacity after one year. That is ridiculous.

Yeah, it can be. My year passed almost 20 days ago and this morning I'm gonna call to Apple. I hope don't get bad news.

Hi,

What do you mean with an express replacement? An refurbished iPhone? If so, how long you bought your iPhone? And, in how many days has you got the replacement?
Thanks

I have AppleCare+. They're sending me a replacement then I send my old phone back (Express Replacement). 2days total

I've been investigating a bit on apple's website to see the warranty time and there're three cases. The first one is the normal warranty time which is 1 year. The other case is to increase it with one additional more by Apple care and according to the website and as unclenax said, depending on where you live, there's a special agreement. In my case as member of EU, there must be an additional year. Specifically, about battery replacement, by taking a look at the apple's website, the price out of these three cases es 79€ and in, 0€. In any case, in 45 minutes approximately I have an appointment with apple's technical service. I hope they confirm it to me. I'll inform you later.

I've upgraded to 10.1 last night and calibration is now off more than ever.
Phone was down to 1% last night, but I was able to keep on using it for another 45 Minutes before I went to sleep. Decided not to charge it to let it run out and recalibrate, but this morning it was still going and the indicator stuck at 1%.

Hi guys,

I've just spoken with Apple technical assistant and he's confirmed me I've a second year in warranty so about that, I'm happy like a baby. He did an online check on my iPhone and he said it doesn't show any problems with the battery and by seeing the software is updated too, it probably is a issue with my control board. He gave me three options, the first one is to go an Apple Store (to get a instantly change), the second one is they send me a transport company to pick up the iPhone (the estimated time would around 10 working days) and the last one is to call to an authorized technical who spend the same time in fixing mm the issue so finally, I think the best idea is to go directly to an Apple Store even it takes me almost 5 hours by driving (round trip).

What do you think?

If you have time to spare, I’d go to Apple Store, 10 days sound like too long. However I am curious, did they promise you a brand new or refurbished “as new” phone? Also if they said they couldn’t detect a problem with your phone why did they offer to replace it?

A small update. I’ve just spent two hours chatting with Apple support and eventually was told to take it to the store. Now, the way I see it, at the Store they will

a) restore the phone in the DFU mode (or restore it in some other way) and/or
b) replace the battery (for a charge).

I am pretty sure they won’t give me a new phone since I’m out of warranty (I checked that).

Given this I want to ask: did iTunes resetting/DFU resetting/not restoring from the backup/replacing the battery solve this issue for anyone? From what I gather from your guys accounts – no. Only swapping Samsung A9 to TSMC A9 seems to help. Please let me know if I missed anything.

for you guys who are having these kinds of problems, do the phones usually die when you are outdoors?

i have very similar issues with my 6s and i've noticed that the phone turning off typically happens when the phone is exposed to the cold outside for an extended period of time. i know the 6s has a recommended operating range of above 32 degrees, but i have had this issue even when the temperature is around 40 degrees.

what i'm noticing is that once the phone is exposed to the cold for around 10-15 minutes, the phone will sometimes die out of nowhere (I've seen with battery life anywhere from 10% to 50%) and when i try to turn it on, it shows the battery as empty. but...as soon as i plug the phone back in, the battery will show up with percentage that the battery died at. and the issue is very frequent especially during the winter. any given week, i'd say the phone will die prematurely 3 times usually when i'm outside going from work. i have had iPhones since iPhone 3G and i've never had batteries this sensitive to cold.

Gonna check out the Genius Bar tomorrow and see what they can do.

Same issue (cold, but not freezing temp) - did they manage to solve it somehow? Did they say anything about occurance of this? If common?

No, I told him I wanted to conserve my actual phone once fixed. He said that as he wasn't a technical in hardware he didn't know if it's possible although He'd put it in knowledge. So, he said that the most normal thing is to get a refurbished one. In any case, it's better that than keeping mine with the problem, isn't it?

My wife's 6s has been shutting off at different % the last few weeks. One day it will shut off at 30%, then 40%, sometimes even 50. She's out of the warranty period, since we only had the 1 year manufacturers when we bought the phone.

How much would it cost to fix or to get a replacement? Or would it be better off to just upgrade to the 7 if it is too expensive?

Hey, I’m curious to see whether you have the same issue as most people here. When the phone shuts down, does it display low battery logo, prompting to plug in to charge? If you plug it in and turn back on, does it show the (roughly) battery percentage at which it switched off? If you then enable the Low Power mode, can you run the battery all the way down to 1%? If you use Low Power mode all the way do shutdowns still happen?

Battery replacement costs $80 or equivalent in local currency but I am not sure the issue discussed here can be fixed with battery replacement.
