Hey, I’m curious to see whether you have the same issue as most people here. When the phone shuts down, does it display low battery logo, prompting to plug in to charge? If you plug it in and turn back on, does it show the (roughly) battery percentage at which it switched off? If you then enable the Low Power mode, can you run the battery all the way down to 1%? If you use Low Power mode all the way do shutdowns still happen?

Battery replacement costs $80 or equivalent in local currency but I am not sure the issue discussed here can be fixed with battery replacement.

I just asked my wife and she said that it does show the low battery logo and promting you to charge the phone, after trying to turn it back on, when it shut off. It also was at the percentage or right around at which it turned off when she plugs it in. She hasn't really used low power mode at all, so I can't answer that question. I'll have to tell her to try that next time it happens.

I see. The reason I’m saying battery replacement may not help is that from what I understand people who really had their issue resolved were still covered by warranty and had been given another phone (either new or refurbished). And Apple battery diagnostic on their old phones showed no problems.

So I am not sure what the procedure would be for phones out of warranty like mine or that of your wife if we request battery replacement. Will they give us different devices entirely for $80 or will they open up ours and just replace the battery? Would it actually help?

In theory, they'll replace it. In any case, in Apple's website it's possible to see if your country is protected by a norm in which the period is increased with an additional time like in EU.

The reason I am so apprehensive about going to the Apple store is because I bought my iPhone in the US and am currently in China. Warranty is not international in any case (EU might be an exception) and in China they sell different iPhone 6s models entirely, e.g I have a A1688 and in China they sell A1699/A1700 or something like that, so I am not sure how service request would go even if I am ready to pay.

Oh got it. So I think the best way is to call Apple and see what you can do. I have no idea what recommend you. I'm sorry man.

No worries. I’ve chatted with Apple support online and they told me to bring it to the store. I might try calling since the person that I chatted with didn’t seem very knowledgeable, will see what they have to say. Of course I can try going to the nearest Apple Store, it’s only 80 minutes away by public transport ;)

It would be great to learn if your problem is fixed by the replacement, btw.

In my case, I'm really confused because two nights ago I updated to 10.1 and 24 hours later, my battery was extraordinarily good. It's use was the following (see the pic) and I wanted to see how long the iPhone was working with 1%. I did a lot of things in order to waste it like play games, watch videos on YouTube and all typical things you know dry the battery and it worked and worked and worked. I'm very surprised but I don't want to be happy till several checks.

Good news, maybe with this update the issue is resolved! Me and my wife have iPhone 6s (mine with Samsung chip and the other with Tsmc), but they have 9.3.5 because i'm afraid to update for this problem. Do you have Samsung or Tsmc chip?

That’s just how it started for me. After the 10.1 update I thought I saw an overall improvement in battery life, then I ran it down to 18% and it shut down.

I have no idea man, when at the beginning of the release of 6S people was talking about several problems with the chip c I didn't want to get involved on that matters but I don't think that interfere on that issue. I believe it's about either battery or software issues.

I have heard of multiple people who were able to fix the problem with a battery replacement.
No guarantees fought.

This is what happened to me as well. It stayed at 1% for about an hour of usage and 8 hours of standby. Super weird.
Now it's back up, reported "Capacity" seems to be higher again, too. I'll wait and see how this pans out, going to let it run out of battery again which will hopefully - fingers crossed - at 1% this time around and not 20.

Hahaha yeah, me too. On one hand I'm afraid the night comes up and on the other hand, I'm excited to see what happens.

I've also been having a similar issue. I have 128GB 6S and I have had the phone shut off as high as 22% battery remaining. When it does, I usually plug it in long enough to turn the phone back on and let it reboot. Then, once it's back on, I unplug it and switch low power mode on and it works fine from there.

I think I found the culprit though. For some reason, it only seems to shut off like that when I open up snapchat. I don't even have to do anything in the app, but it seems that if I open that app when my battery is near 20%, the phone will shut off. No other app, to my knowledge, has caused this to happen, only snapchat. Once I get into low power mode though, all goes well until the battery truly dies.

But yes, in terms of battery life, the 6S is, hands down, the worst phone I've ever had.

I had the exact same problem with my iPhone 6. It will sometimes shut down with as much as 30% of the battery left and often if I wait 10 minutes I can power the phone back up and get around an hour or two use out of it.

Today a strange thing happened: I turned off the phone at 10%, when I turned it on, low 20% battery message appeared (but in truth it marked 11%), then it turned off by himself. I had to charge again to turn it on back, then I unplugged the charger and then it arrived as usual to 1%. I have not yet updated to ios 10 ...

Slightly OT but do Apple replace the phone with battery issues or replace the battery?

My phone shut down this morning at 20%, kept saying to plug it to a charger a couple of times before turning back on for 10-20 second and then shutting down again. I was apparently able to do this indefinitely. I plugged it into the charger just for about a minute to check something, unplugged it, and now it is running on the remaining battery (started at about 15%, now 6% after an hour) without an issue... my 1-year warranty ended last week...

In the end it died at 10% remaining (with roughly 5hrs30m usage and 24hrs standby).
Usage data kind of points to battery life being the same, but the indicator is rather useless and wildly inaccurate at this point. Over the past 24 hrs I noticed that quite often it just wont update for a longer period of time but then rapidly decrease at another.

Might as well swing by the apple store in a week and get this checked out.

Oh that's too bad man. What is currently your iOS? I have it in 10.1 and apparently it seems to work better, at least in the last two days. Right now it's 9% and it's still working.

Well this happened to me the first time this morning: while attempting to download a purchased movie from iTunes, my 6s displayed low battery logo which prompted me to plug it in at 37%. I deleted iTunes (music) from my phone and when I plugged the phone back to charge and resume download the iTunes icon was back on my phone.

If it happens again, I'll make a genius appointment, but I wonder if the cold had anything to do with it as it is very cold here this morning.

Definitely it's a problem with this model. I live in Seville (Spain) where it's a really warm place and it happens to me too.
