I'm upgrading to the iPhone 6s series in a couple weeks ans am not sure which model to buy. For those of you who have had them for awhile, what's your experience? What are long term pros and cons?

6s: cheaper, easier to use with one hand
6s+: longer battery life, optical image stabilization

Obviously, the fundamental difference is the screen size, and whether you view bigger as better. There's no right answer to that. The Plus has many die-hard adherents, but then again, there are a lot of us who have found even the 6/6s too big and moved back down in size to the SE.

At the end of the day they're all very nice phones, I would focus on the screen size that you find most comfortable. I like my big device but many people I know would pick the smaller one. Go into a shop and try them out, you will have a preference then.

What phones have you had prior? I've owned every Note, and I always got tired of the size minus the Note 5. I've also owned every Nexus and iPhone. The 6P and the 6S+ are just too damn big for me. Loved them at first for their everything they offer, but on the go, these phones are always in your hand or your lap while driving/commuting as there is just no good place to store them when not in use. It got old, quick, with me.

I have both the 6S and 6S+ the plus tends to hurt my hand from holding it. I use the 6S more. I love the screen size and the battery of the Plus but its heavy and you basically have to take it out of your pocket every time you sit down. The 6S is a lot more convenient you can text with one hand you can put a case on it and its not huge. They both have advantages and it can depend on what your used too.

I've had an iPhone 5s and 6. The 5s was too small for me. The 6 is...okay. Sometimes I want the plus, but I don't know if it's for me. Going to a store to check it out doesn't help because I'm more concerned with the long term usability.

I prefer the 6s+ myself. I don't really care about the image stabilization for the rear camera, but the battery life is incredible. I've had mine since launch and the battery will still last me 1.5 days of use if I forget to charge it overnight. That's with a good amount of of web/Reddit browsing as well as texting, music, calls, etc.

I also prefer the bigger screen because I am basically using this thing as a personal computer first and a phone second. The extra space definitely goes to good use.

The regular 6s size is easier to text with one hand, if that is something you are looking for. Personally, I don't text and walk very often so that's not a big deal to me. If you feel funny holding such a big phone up to your ear during phone calls you can just use the Apple EarPods for calls. That's what I do a lot.

One drawback of the 6s+ is that it has creased by pants and even ripped holes in one pair of jeans. Just like this: http://imgur.com/9TbAS57?r
I assume this would be less of a problem with the smaller sized phones.

The battery life and screen are better on the + model. I always use all my phones two handed anyway so that is not an issue for me. I only returned the + because of the iOS 9 catastrophic freeze up. If I only had those two choices for the phone, I'd go with the + now.

If I had my own way, I'd get a 5SE and an iPad Mini 4. The SE simply for phone calls and emergency email / transit checks, the iPad for all my consumption needs (movies, calendar, quick notes etc.) I need a bigger screen than the + when it comes to reading.

I go back and forth on this all the time. I love my + but there are certainly times where I wondered if I would have been better served with going for the 6S. I love the screen size on the plus especially for browsing and viewing videos or movies, but if I have a drink in my hand one handed texting is a nightmare (well ok that's a bit of an exaggeration, but it's not nearly as pleasant as typing on my 5S was). Battery life is also great, I typically get a full two days of light to moderate use, and easily a full day of heavy use.

I think for me, because I have an iPad, I may have been better served using a 6S, but if the iPhone is your primary computer, as it may be for many people, the + might be the better option.

i Have the 6S+ and while nice, I think I may go back down to the 6S. It's big and over time is has started to wear on my nerves. Portability, better one handed use and discreetness are things I miss. I may switch back when the 7 drops.

The one thing I can say is that the 6s feels better in the hand than the 6s+. But, don't give up on the 6s+ if you like the big screen. It might just be that you need a little time to get used to the big screen.

I had the 6 plus and switched to a 6s as soon as it came out. Screen size On the plus I loved but the phone just felt too big and bulky for me.

What do you mean by this?

My 6s+ froze up several times within 2-3 days of owning it and only hard reboots fixed it. I don't push my phones hard. The first time I was playing smash hit and nothing else was active (No Background app refresh etc.) The subsequent times I went back and forth between email and notes.

I decided I wasn't going to keep a nearly $1200 phone as a result of the phone becoming unresponsive and locking up over simple usage.

A quick forum search does a user good:

Oh, so you had something going on with your phone specifically. The way you phrased it in your first post made me think there was something about iOS 9 that was effecting 6s+ phones for everyone.

I love the 2gb of RAM on the S & SE model phones.
