So they come in from AK and head to Texas. Then what? AT&T slaps a Fed Ex label on them and away they go? Does anyone know what the process actually looks like?
I've had confirmed yesterday by calling up AT&T about the iPhone 7 the same as what I was told two years ago regarding the iPhone 6:

For AT&T, when they get a shipment of devices in, they then take that inventory and match it up to your order, wherever you happen to be in line (and I have no idea if this is FIFO or whatever; it may be based on some other metric or none at all). At that point (when actual inventory is matched to your order), the rest of the process moves forward, which essentially means you get notified and eventually physically receive the device.

Mine:
2 IP7+ MB 256GB, ordered 9/9 8:30am/12:30pm ET, 9/23-9/30

I just realized my phone is coming Usps express mail. I've never had that from att before. It says 2 day express with delivery Monday. If it's two day I don't see why it wouldn't come Saturday. I still expect it tomorrow but I will wait and see. 7 128 matte black

The other phone I ordered 128 7+ rose gold that they messed up twice it just says shipping today but I've got nothing. If it doesn't ship today I'll just order through Apple and cancel the att order. Hopefully att loses money on that deal even if it's only a few dollars.

Oh yes, he's awful. I made that same fake smile on picture day in middle school.
I made some improvements to his appearance :D

Last year and for the 6 and 6 plus was the same thing. Lots of people got tracking numbers late at night on the day before launch. Still a good chance, unless apple simply didn't make enough phones. I've yet to see ANY 256 come out yet, let alone in either of the blacks. Also, it took 5 attempts before my order went through. The first 4 authorizations dropped off my cc in 1 day, the last 1 is still on there....

So once you place your order, it gets assigned a device which may or may not still be in China. Then when the cargo planes start coming in and your device number is scanned, it's sent? Guess that makes sense. I'd also be willing to bet someone at AT&T is aware which phones are on which planes into Alaska from China and sent their way. Too bad they don't share. :(

Reading through this has been an interesting experience -

I started reading this to find out how my phone might be shipped - most likely Fedex.

Early on everyone convinced me that despite the fact I ordered relatively late - 1 pm on the 9th and got a Sept. 23-30 delivery date it would probably be here on launch day - doesn't look likely now.

Looks like I'll be using my 4 (yes a 4, not even a 4S) a little longer. Short version of why - wife got a new job a few months ago and had to give up her company phone. She knew I wanted a 7+ so I gave her my 6+ and I dug up the only old phone I could find that still held a charge - my old 4. As you can imagine I'm ready for an upgrade.

I miss my iPhone 4..... I named him Beanie... twas glorious times that Beanie and I had together.... sigh... I think I shall name my new 7+ Beanie in my i4's honor lol

Well if orders are leaving for Texas and people on the east coast don't have shipping. Doesn't get more further than that from Texas.

To add to this... I've spoken to store managers in the South Texas market and the Kentucky market (also two very big markets) - in STX, only 1 store got 1 Plus in and it was a 32GB Gold. And Kentucky has gotten 0 in their entire market.

I've never seen this in 4 years. Usually we have something, but never a company wide shortage of an entire model of phone.
While I once dismissed the thought as fantasy, maybe Apple did decide to divert a certain amount of inventory to help make up for their Apple Upgrade Program issue. Or, this is simply organic preorder taking up the entire supply.

Did Apple fall for the rhetoric of, "nothing major has changed; no need to upgrade?"

I just received shipping info on it. Living on the East Coast too. Looks like ill be a Happy Camper

I just placed my order through AT&T online for an Iphone 7 Plus 256 Jet Black.

Estimated ship dates: November 25, 2016 - December 2, 2016

The person I chatted with online stated they have received more Jet Black iPhones so my ship date should change to a sooner date.

I think it may be location based. With orders that would take longer transit time getting shipped out earlier than ones that will have a fast turn around.

Most of the orders probably all shipped out earlier today. It is just taking a long time for AT&Ts/shipping carrier systems to update.
