The one thing I have been disappointed in with the AT&T order is that they seem to give less detail about the order than the other carriers and Apple. It seems many in the Verizon and Apple threads (and the T-Mobile thread as well) have already had updates (serial numbers emailed, delivery dates updated, order status updated, new phones showing up in Apple Support profiles, and even tracking numbers already). I've heard nothing from AT&T since the order status email at midnight on launch morning. What I've heard from ATT online preorder regulars is that they don't tell you much, and then suddenly their device is delivered before they even received a tracking number or a shipment notification email.

I hope this is an OK place to ask this: Can any of you with experience with both AppleCare+ & AT&T Mobile Protection insurance weigh in on which is the best? I bundled AT&T insurance with my iPhone 7+ order and wondering if I should cancel it and buy AppleCare+

Thoughts?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just googled and found this new article comparing the two http://www.imore.com/should-you-get-applecare-insurance-iphone

This is my issue too. I get mine says 9/23 to 9/30 but we all know dates move up. And ATT had all of the black Plus dates start at 9/23 estimated it seems

But putting "preparing to ship" on everyone's is just deceiving language. Just give the true status like everyone else does, I dont get why that's so hard.

Processing is processing stage, preparing to ship means it is getting boxed to ship, shipped means shipped. Do it how Apple does it since its an Apple device. Remember, they arent getting shipped to ATT and then to you that the names of the stages should be different. Apple devices come from Apple/China direct to you.

People who ordered from Apple have them getting added to their support profiles and tracking from China already. They change status from processing to true preparing to ship. I have yet to see anyone here get anything at all; 16th delivery or otherwise. Just blanket "preparing to ship" language on most ATT orders no matter the date.

That is more frustrating than anything else; lack of real information.

So, because I'm being very impatient...

How busy is the at&t store on launch day? How early would I need to be there in order to *hopefully* get a phone?

If an order is processing you can cancel the order. I tried to cancel a preparing to ship order just now and I can't because "We're sorry. Your order has already been sent to shipping, so it's too late to cancel it." this is for a 7 32 black with and eta Friday and jet black oct 14th.

I would say your best bet is to call an AT&T store located IN a mall to see what their allocation might be. Might be your best bet if the local brick and mortars get big lines.

As with everything, it depends. The only time I've ever gotten an iPhone at an AT&T store was when the 3GS became available back in 2009. There was already a line when I showed up before 7 am. All other things being equal, it pays to be early, say an hour or so before opening time, but there's no guarantee.

I know about the impatience many of us feel around release time for new devices: We endlessly check order status and threads, hanging on every hint that what we ordered might come a day or two earlier. I've even tracked the planes that I was sure were transporting my device across the Pacific and North America, despite knowing that a week or two shouldn't make a difference. But I still do it, maybe because it makes me feel like I did when I was a kid who couldn't wait to open presents at holiday time or on birthdays.

Just ordered the matte black 7 32gb and got a shipping date for this 16. Who knew? Guess no one wants the smaller ones!

Probably so, but it also has to do with how many of each version Apple is making available. With all the colors and storage options, there are a lot of combinations for them to predict.

Loving the look of that new sea blue leather case. Just need to see it in person.

Even though I hate covering up this beauty.

I think you have a typo up there.. They ARE getting shipped from Apple to AT&T first.. That's why there are no 16th ship dates. Att has NONE yet from Apple..

Maybe that should be called processing.. We agree there..

My understanding is they are dropped shipped for ATT (and all carriers). ATT never really holds any preorder stock in an ATT warehouse or anything; nor do any carriers prior to launch. They hold stock for their stores, yeh.

If they went to ATT first then no one would get any 7 or 7 Plus launch day delivered, since no one has said they have seen any movement on their ATT site order 7 or 7 plus any color.

Apple.com orders are already shipping from China for Friday delivery in other threads. Idk how they would get oversees from China to some ATT location, sorted, and then re-shipped out to customers in that same time then. That would be double shipping costs and horrible logistics to re-sort tens of thousands of phones.

But yeh, I dont care about the logistics. ATT needs to give us just a bit more info than a bunch of preparing to ship notes for everything up to mid October.

I have read that some people wrote that Apple and other carriers never use USPS to delivery the iPhone; and in my case, in Puerto Rico, the regular US Postal Service (USPS) is the one that always bring me the iPhone. And Fedex and UPS work in my area, but AT&T always sent me through regular Postal Service.

I ordered on 9/9 at 1:54am which was noted on my order but i didn't get my conformation email until this morning at around 11:30 am. Now my order says that i ordered today at 11:26 am!!! I still have the same shipping dates but worried my place in line may be affected. I just now noticed this. Anyone else have this happen?
Same here. Anyone else?

I've talked about this already on this thread several times.. and as I mentioned I have a friend who's in fulfillment and shipment with AT&T.. And it's close to what you're saying.. But it's not the exact same drop shipping process that people get through Apple store app/online.. But "Preparing to Ship" IS somewhat accurate nonetheless in that, the Carriers won't be getting access to the shipments LATER than the Apple pre-order people.. The first people who ordered at ATT's site even before midnight WILL be getting EVEN their Jet Black Plus phones shipped on the same airplanes that Apple Store people will... But when they arrive from China they will be sitting at the Shipping Companies site for DAYS - even starting Monday all the way to Friday... because of Apple's 'laws' about release day. So you're right - double shipping isn't happening.. They're not going to ATT's warehouses first then on to UPS.. It's a drop ship situation.. BUT because the Carriers have an ALLOTMENT from Apple (to make sure their stores are stocked) ATT will never give a Launch Day Ship date. EVER.. (for the popular phones). They can't control Apple's 'allotments'. BUT.. our phones are WAY MORE than 'processing'.. When we see the words PREPARING FOR SHIPMENT we have '1' (no serial number allotted yet... but..) SET ASIDE for us, if you will.. And when we finally get our tracking numbers long about Thursday of this week... we'll see how our dang phones we sitting at UPS since Monday or Tuesday..

Again.. just read the Wednesday and Thursday posts from the threads last year on week 3 of September.. It's all right there from the last 2 years. So I'm just plain NOT worried ONE bit.. that my JetBlack 128GB 7Plus will be on my doorstep on Friday afternoon. People standing in line will get theirs way before we will as UPS and FedEx rarely ship in the am.. But...

Well anyway.. Not to belabor a dead horse.. though we will obsess for the next 4 days.. :).. But it's really not worth it. Would I LOVE to see my tracking number and 'follow my phone from China to US'.. sure.. LOL.. But it still won't get it here even '1 hour earlier' than Friday afternoon. :) ..not even for Apple app people..
